Hey, I'm a 38 year old Father of 3 young, but very active boys, and I am starting to get back into a fitness lifestyle that I had when I was younger. I, unfortunately, recently lost my father. He was not a healthy man and died in his sleep from a heart attack. During my period of mourning, I started to look at my life and take stock in what I was, and who was in my life. I decided that I

I had always been in reasonably good shape through high school and college. Into my late twenties, I still maintained a fairly good lifestyle. When I got into my thirties, though, that is when things started to change. As "life"-style happens, I got less active, ate whatever was infront of me, drank way too much and like most people, started to gain weight. It worked out to be about 10 to 15 lbs. per year and by the time that I was into my late thirties, I was about 60 pounds overweight. My back hurt, my knees hurt, my feet hurt, and I was "getting older" so those were my excuses not to do anything. That was when my dad died from a heart attack. When I decided to make some changes, my weight was 229, my waist was a 37 and I couldn't do 2 pullups. I started to look at photos of myself and my dad when he was my age. It scared me how our bodies looked the same. My dad died at the age of 60 and he was about 450 lbs. His father died from a heart attack when he was in his early sixties. At 35, with 15 years at 15 lbs/year gain, I would be pushing 400 by the time I reached 60, if I reached 60. It was time for a change.
I started with the Power 90 series. I got through 2 rounds of that and dropped 50+ lbs and now I have kept it off for almost 2 years.
My fitness goals have evolved from trying to lose some weight, to get healthier, to, now, getting to a level of fitness that will allow me to be a role model for my children to live a healthy lifestyle, too. I want to break that Heart Attack Chain in my family. I now know that Exercise and Healthy eating are going to be part of my life forever, and I am looking forward to a long active life.
