My life has been filled with more hurdles than you can find a race but by the end of you reading this, you’ll know no matter how many hurdles are placed in front of you, you can get past them all if you just believe, push yourself and BRING IT!
At age 7, I was a victim of a freak accident and was hit in the neck with a golf club. It had caused me to suffer a massive stroke, crushed my corroded artery & left me paralyzed on my right side. With me so young, many doctors who came to see me thought I would only live to be a vegetable except for one doctor that didn’t give up on me and is probably the original reason I’m still here today.
After many many years of constant rounds of grueling speech, physical & occupational therapy to learn how to talk, walk and function correctly again, I returned to be semi-normal but from the accident, I have a ton of nerve damage on my right side that‘s still with me that makes me need to push extra hard in many aspects of daily living.
In my teen years, I played sports (although needed to go 300 percent to be on the same level as others) but until about high school needed to wear a leg brace..it eventually came off and my late teen and early 20s I didn’t really have much problems but a few years back over 4th of July weekend while just walking my foot starting to hurt badly. I later found out from over time the screw inside my foot that was placed in there from a surgery when I was in 6th grade was eroding and not doing its job. I could barely walk. I had surgery to remove the screw in April 2009 in hopes that when the bone would fill in where the screw was my foot would function correctly again. The podiatrist was WRONG. I had the surgery all for pretty much nothing and it didn’t exactly do much improvement. I am now currently stuck with wearing an orthotic in my left shoe and a MAFO brace once again on my right leg. It’s not the most ideal situation in the world and post-surgery I had A LOT of trouble with my right foot and often today still do in regards to the pain and its so-called unfixable deformity.
Through it all, I went to the gym 3-4 times a week and stayed as active as I could but never really got a real result that I’ve searched for and then a best friend of mine introduced me to P90X in late May..he had been doing it for about six months at the time and told me all of the wonderful things about it. I had my doubts as many others do and the fear that I wouldn’t be able to do it due to my foot problems. But as of June 8th, 2010 I became a member of the P90X family. And trust me..it was hard, sooooo hard that first couple of days but I modified where needed & pushed through it and pushed through it and pushed through it..you get the idea.
What foot problems I had on a daily occurance strangely started to disappear slightly everyday that I’ve put into the program which was the complete opposite of what I thought would happen. I used to wake up in the morning & wouldn’t be able to walk for the first 15-20 minutes of the day but now as I’ve progressed through this program, I no longer have this problem and have no problem walking and getting out of bed in the morning. I keep up with the videos’ speed and the results I’ve seen so far are astonishing.
P90X has been a saving grace, a lifestyle changer & a program that has become a regular fixture in my life.
It may not heal me & it certainly does help me.

And trust me..it was hard, sooooo hard that first couple of days but I modified where needed & pushed through it and pushed through it and pushed through it..well..I think you get the idea.

In late 2010, I got into Adventure Running AKA races or courses filled with obstacles(mud, hills, river crossing/water, tunnels, barbed wire, etc.) I never thought I'd have such an addiction to something like this but I absolutely LOVE it. The joy of completing these personal challenges are like a drug to me and remind me how far I've personally come & how ANYONE can do it if I can do it.
I've completed two thusfar, a 5K sized one in early October riddled with 11 obstacles and another with 19 obstacles that was a grueling 12.3 miles and in some pretty rough weather elements being that it took place in New Jersey in late November. Next on tap for me is a 9 mile course in Early April and I'm more than ready for it.
