After a chubby adolescence and being the kid who was ALWAYS picked last in gym class I embraced fitness with gusto in my late teens and early 20's. Armed with a step and a substantial library of home fitness videos I worked out faithfully 6 days a week and was amazed at how much better I felt and looked.
As I got closer to 30 I gradually started adding more rest days to my workout schedule until the days I managed to workout became the exception and not the rule. In 2001 I suffered a pretty bad fall and badly injured my lower back. During the slow and painful recovery from back surgery in 2002 I had plenty of time to think about my fitness goals and how I had gotten so off track with them. One of the things that dawned on me is was that health and fitness are not guaranteed and should not be taken for granted. My lowered fitness level was not the direct cause of my injury but it certainly contributed to its severity and prolonged my period of recovery.
After completing physical therapy I cautiously began working out again, eventually regaining my strength and stamina. I discovered P90X just as I was hitting a plateau in my fitness journey and boy did it deliver! P90X pushed me further than I thought possible and impressed me in several ways, not the least of which being its emphasis on strength training for women as well as men. I completed my 1st round at the very beginning of 2007 and was amazed at the strength gains and increase in definition I achieved. I can honestly say that it got me in the best shape of my life!
I am currently doing a hybrid rotation of P90X, P90X+ and Tony Horton's One on One series. I love that Beachbody gives us the tools to push us to our limits and beyond. There is truly something for everyone and should you decide to take this journey with me I promise I will be there for you...every step of the way!
