Price of Shakeology

Am I the only one out there that thinks $120 for a bag of Shakeology is overpriced? How long does this bag last? I would love to try this but cannot get past the price.

A bag lasts for 30 days. That's $4 a day. That's less than some calorie-rich, overpriced, burnt Starbucks latte'! >_>

Consider signing up for club membership. At $2.99/week, you'll get 10% off your orders. Granted...that breaks even with the Shakeology, but now you'll have access to the awesome meal planner.

Once you break it down to the daily cost, though, it's not bad at all. $4 a day for a very, very healthy snack, or meal replacement (depending on your needs). There's always the bottom of the bag guarantee, as well. Drink the whole thing, try different recipes. If you don't feel better, like it, whatever, you have 30 days to return it.

Yes...both my wife and I drink it every...single...day. We also use the meal planner. A cup of chocolate almond milk, a scoop of chocolate Shakeology, 2 TBsp of PB2 (powdered peanut butter), and some alcohol-free banana extract was my mid-morning snack today!

I have been contemplating getting a bag of shakeology, but I also can't get over the price. It does seem like too much for me. That is why I have held back from getting some. I have been working out on insanity for over a month now, and have been seeing some pretty good results, like some definition in my abs that I have never had before doing anything else. I have been taking some other lesser known brand of protein shake and so far so good, and not as pricey.

If you're getting good results from Insanity, and happy with your current meal plan, it may not be for you. Shakeology isn't actually a "protein shake", so I wouldn't compare it to those. It's a meal replacement shake. While it is healthy, and has replaced all the vitamins I used to take, for me, the convenience factor is a big driving factor too.

How are you liking Insanity? I just ordered The Asylum a few minutes ago.

EXACTLY! I can't tell you how many times people mistake it for a protein shake. Folks...it's not a protein shake. And it has FAR, FAR, FAR more minerals, vitamins, and other nutrients in it than a protein shake. Shakeology is all natural. The chemicals in it are there to keep it in powder form and as a preservative...that's IT. There's simply no comparable, commercially available drink on the market that I've found.

Re: Asylum. I bought it Friday as soon as it was available. It'll be here this week. I can't WAIT to start it. I plan to do it throughout May...just in time for LA in mid-June. I'm going to have to have my wife hide it so I don't tear into ahead of schedule. HA!

I've been told that $4 a shake is still expensive.. Now I know it's not comparable or as tasty but Gnc sells a meal replacement for $30 for a month supply..Also those of us that have children and have to buy groceries for the family can't give Shakeology to our kids. unfortunately Shakeology while good, is a luxury and quite frankly is very expensive.

Expensive is a relative term, it depends on the value each person places on it. Unfortunately, for some, $2/serving would still be too much. With dollar menus advertised, we want everything now, and we want it cheap. I'm no different, I want the best value I can get. But we've stopped cutting corners on nutrition where possible, including what we feed the kids. And for me, the convenience plays a big role in the value, along with the vitamins that I used to take that it has replaced.

We have to buy groceries for the family too. I'm not sure what you mean by can't give Shakeology to kids. While I don't give it to my kids daily, they do have it occasionally. I've made the ice cream for them (they love it) and give them a half shake occasionally. My daughter (5 yrs) recently had digestion problems. We started giving her a shake with dinner each night (1/2 scoop). After two day, things started "moving". We kept her on shakes for about a week, then tapered off.

A buddy of mine was drinking a protein shake for lunch daily. It was around $1/day, but doing nothing for him. He also goes to the gym 3-5 days a week. After ~21 days on Shakeology, he's down 10 lbs, not changing his workouts any. He's 7 lbs from his goal now, and was worried he'd lose too much!

You're right, it's not cheap, and I get some people not wanting or being able to spend the money on it. Each person has to make the decision if they find value, and if not, that's ok.

I agree that expensive is a relative term. It's all about your priorities and what you want to spend your money on in my opinion. I have three children and yes, have to buy groceries and other food too for the family. We are essentially a one income household, but have made our nutrition top priority. My husband and I both drink it daily. Yes, it's pricey, but we've cut corners elsewhere so we can have this and the benefits have really paid off. Both of our total cholesterol levels dropped over 30 points (last time it was checked and that was only a few months after starting) - and neither of us has gotten sick at all this past year (when everyone around us was getting the stomach flu or other nasty viruses) - so obviously the up front costs of Shakeology are saving us money in the long run on doctor visits and medicines. You will not find nearly the quality of ingredients in a GNC meal replacement shake, guaranteed. I've known people who hem and haw about the cost, tell me it's too expensive and they can't afford it, but turn around and head to Dunkin Donuts (daily) for a breakfast sandwich and coffee (to the tune of over $5 a day). Or those who spend money on fast food, Starbucks, or other crappy snacks they don't even think about while on the go. If you sit down and figure out what you spend per day or per month month on food, I guarantee you, there will be room in the budget for a $4 a day meal. Have you seen what is in it? Those are some expensive ingredients and honestly, I wouldn't want the price to drop as the quality of the product would go dramatically downhill.

PB2 is great stuff.
SuzanneSmith:
Powdered peanut butter? Never heard of this but would like to know more.

Yes, the bellplantation.com site is where to go for it. PB2...fantastic stuff! They have regular, and chocolate peanut butter.

Granted...the oils and fats associated with natural peanut butter (I'm not talking Skippy here, folks) is actually beneficial. The problem is, you pile on the calories with only a tablespoon or so, and you hardly taste that in a Shakeology. Not only that, but it doesn't exactly blend very well. All of that is stripped from the PB2, and you're left with a lo-cal, awesome flavored protein powder. No...it's not a substitute for whey. There's not THAT much protein in peanuts, but it's a great alternative to the real stuff, and inexpensive. You can mix it with water, and even make actual peanut butter. Use it in other recipes for baking, etc.

Ugh...now I'm hungry. Must...resist...urge. Oh, scoop of chocolate Shakeology, 2 TBSP of choc. PB2, a banana, a heaping TBSP of Nutella (chocolate hazlenut spread...notice a theme), and a bit of honey. My energy drink kicks your energy drink's butt! emoticon

Another thing to consider is if you are paying for a multi-vitamin, Shakeology could replace that so $4 a day for a meal and multi-vitamin.

As far as fanning the cost argument. There are cheaper alternatives. But that's the point. They're cheaper. "Cheap" and "inexpensive" are not interchangeable. I challenge anyone to find a less expensive replacement of equal quality. An 8 oz. steak from Friendly's is both less expensive and cheaper than an 8 oz. cut from my local grassfed beef source. There's a reason for that. I find it rather unfortunate that garbage food full of additives, preservatives, and food devoid of nearly all nutritional value is so much lower in cost than real, whole foods. Especially when real, whole foods were USED to make that garbage in the box or frozen food aisle.

We all have our own priorities. All I ask of people is to compare apples to apples. A $30/month processed protein shake from GNC is simply no comparison (and yes, I realize that was mentioned) to Shakeology. If you need a protein shake...get a protein shake. If you want a REALLY healthy snack, or a full-on meal replacement...Shakeology. A $4 meal replacement is a lot more reasonable, methinks, when you look at it that way.

I was reluctant at first to try Shakeology due to the price, but when you think about how much a meal costs, it is about the same.

Now I can't say for sure if it is Shakeology, Beach Body workouts, or changing my diet, but I have psoriasis and it has cleared up considerably since I started all this.

I never ate breakfast before (the most important meal of the day) so I decided to use Shakeology. I drink it daily and am so glad I bought it. Like others said, it gives you a bunch of nutrients that I know I lacked before I started this.

The biggest thing Shakeology has done for me (sorry if this is TMI) has regulated me. I had major problems in that area and now I am not popping pills or using cleanses. This saves me a ton of money (not to mention discomfort). And I don't have to worry I am going to hurt myself by taking pills.

Anyway, it is well worth it to me!

I can't afford to NOT drink it. I started drinking one a day in August of 2009, and I am in Florida where the influx of tourists, and colds, and flus, and crud bombard us every season. I haven't had a sniffle since I started. Coincidence? Perhaps... but I won't take the chance.

I feel better, healthier, more energetic. I look at it on a daily basis, and BTW... my bag lasts me about 5 weeks, and as a Coach I get 25% off so it is about $100 a month.
Roughly $3 a day.

I can live with that.

Funny thing is Larry, I became a Coach at first for product discount - I looked at it the same way as becoming a member of Sam's or Costco. Because I am on Shakeology HD, and R & R HD, plus I buy EVERY Beachbody workout... it made sense.

Now of course the Coaching has evolved, and I do it for so many reasons it's is hard to put into words... I know you understand what I am talking about.

But, back to Shakeology - for those of you that want to try it, ask your Coach for a sample, but please... only if you are serious. It does cost about $3-$4 bucks a packet plus shipping, so give it some thought, and try it if you are looking for a beneficial meal replacement.

Another way you can sample is to look for Fit Clubs or Opportunity Meetings in your area. Again, ask your Coach to look into this for you, and they will.

Good luck, and I hope more of you get to experience the benefits of Shakeology.

Every Coach has a Shakeology web page with ingredient info, success stories, and the Doctors recommend video(a must watch). Shakeology is how I was introduced to Beachbody. I'd seen the P90X informercials on TV alot and wanted to be the after pic so bad, but with 3 ruptured disc in lumbar and losing use of my legs, I didn't give the workouts any thought. My coach told me about Shakeology after hearing my story of injury and lack of mobility and only "going" once every 2 or 3 days. Her daughter had similar problem of going as was mentioned above and Shakeology solved her problem completly. So I became a coach ordering Shakeology. With in a week, I'm going twice a day, and feeling more energy. After a month I notice my type II diabeties is easier to manage, lower wake up blood sugar readings. Later I discovered my blood pressure had dropped from 150/90 to 120/66. It actually scared me when I say my blood pressure, I thought something was wrong, I'd been 140/90 or higher for 15 years. After I began to recover from 3 level lumbar vertibre fusion surgery, I started Power90 workout. Had to modify some of it, can't jump, but Shakeology with the workout, I'm dropping pounds and reversing my type II diabeties. I replace one meal a day, so the $3 a day price is nothing since I no longer get the dollar menu burger with fries and drink. A coach once did a comparison of price to buy all the ingredients in Shakeology through GNC (which you can't get alot of them) and the price would be more than $100 a glass!!!! The nutrients from the whole food sources alone are around $40 a glass (someone correct me on the prices, I'm going from memory)

$3 or $4 a day has replaced, diabetic meds, blood pressure meds, and cholesterol meds.
And has gained me energy I haven't felt since high school, healthier skin and hair, brain works better-no foggy thinking anymore. And loss of about 40 pounds now. I could spend $300 a bag and still come out cheaper than all the meds. For you this could be the prevention of never needing to be on these meds!!!!
[Edited By John]

If you don't know your coach, he/she was prolly the first buddy that appeared on your Team Beachbody profile page.
