Over 60 Doing the Asylum
4/12/11 6:04 PM
I started Insanity in December 2009. I just turned 62. I will start the Ayslum in a week or two when I receive it. I lost 50 pounds in 2009. I then did P90x, P90Xplus and Insanity while still doing P90X three times a week.

I have been waiting for The Asylum since the first of the year like everyone else.

I am looking for other old people who are doing the Asylum.

Anyone else?

Here are my before and after pix.

I guess I am the only old person doing this. so be it.

Hi J: I remember you from some earlier Insanity threads.

Welcome. i am going to give the Fit Test a try here pretty soon and then officially start the program tomorrow. when You get your jump in.

I have previewed several of the DVDs. It looks pretty hard, as it should. Also it takes a bit of coordination.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Congrants!!! and good luck.

Once you get thru all workouts. Let me know if you think the Chin up bar is a must. I don't have one. I'm holding the order waiting for an honest opinion. The money is not an issue, I have Insanity deluxe, but if I can modify the workout would be fine for me. My workouts are more cardio focused. Then, I will invest in a big plyometric rubber mat for my terrace.

Hey guys. Just did Speed and Agility. Seems I don't have much of either at this point. Very hard and I haven't mastered all the moves yet. But I will stick with it. Strength is tomorrow. I have reviewed the DVD and it is pretty challenging. A lot of cardio-based weight work. I will use bands since that is what I have to use when I am in hotel four nights a week.

As to pull up bars. I don't think it is worth it. I have never used one even when did P90X. One, it is hard to fit one in my suitcase every week. Two I don't have a good doorway at home to put it on near where my tv is. Three I have an old wrestling injury that causes me to have very limited grip strength in my left hand so I couldn't do them anyway. I have always substituted shoulder presses..it works out ok.

In the strength workout in Asylum there are some pull ups, but not like in P90X. I met Shaun T once and he said he only put in pull ups because Beachbody made him somt hey can sell more pull up bars.

I am 52 and working my way up to a full round of Insanity. Just coming off Turbo Fire. My goal is to hit Asylum in December. It seems so far away, yet years of weight lifting demand I work to strengthen those injuries and up the core work! Good Luck!

Hey Linda, do what you need to do. It's just a big journey.

I did the Strength workout this morning. Even though I have been doing P90X pretty regularly for almost a year and a half, this workout is different. Really it's doing cardio with weights. It's always harder doing weights when your heart rate is way up.

My shoulders and triceps are very sore.

I did back to core today. Very tough. Holding the lunge position and doing the shoulder pulses was a killer. Not to mention the super mans with the arm movements. I had to stop a few times. But I can feel in my back and shoulders.

Tomorrow is Vertical Plyo. Very scary.

Marc... Glad to see you have started and hung in.. I too previewed the DVD's and decided to take a week of complete rest before I start on Monday. However I have been doing the jump rope to get my skills back with a rope and to be ready. I remember alot of this stuff from my sports days and know it's very difficult but of course can be done with the right mindset.

I'll keep on this thread for my motivation and to give my thoughts as we progress.

GOOD LUCK ALL!!!!!!!!

Good luck. I am sure you will do just fine.

I did Vertical Plyo yesterday. By far the hardest workout I have ever attempted. I couldn't make it through the warm up without stopping. This one is ten times harder than Max Plyo in Insanity.

My mission: be able to do the warm up all the way through by the end of the program. I of course would like to do the entire thing straight through without stopping but at this point that seems inconceivable.

By the way the peeps on the DVD behind Shaun T couldn't make it through the warm up either!!! So I don't feel as badly.

let me know how things go for you on monday.

Hey Marcj!

Been lurking! I ordered my Asylum this week. I'm on week 4 of Insanity. I've done multiple rounds of P90X, Chalene Extreme, Turbo Fire, etc. I'm a BB junkie! I'll be 52 on Saturday! I'll watch your progress as I finish month 2 of Insanity. If you can do it, so can I! I won't be doing it for sports performance improvement, but for me!

Hey sngray: welcome.

I am finishing up my first week of Asylum today: Strength for the second time. I did Speed and Agility yesterday also for the second time.

These workouts are amazing. I am still getting used to the moves and this program requires much more "speed and agility" overall than Insanity per se.

It doesn't matter what your objective is. I highly doubt I will be trying out for the NFL anytime soon. However, the overall fitness improvements and hopefully fat shredding is worth the effort.

Another good thing about this program is that there is more upper body strength stuff than Insanity.

I will say that I might have to introduce some more traditional core work, like Insane Abs or Ab Ripper X into the program. The Back to Core workout is excellent for the back, but I personally nned to keep doing front core stuff too.

Anyway, when you are done with Insanity, take a week or two off and buy Asylum and do it! You will be glad you did.

Note to self: this program is really hard!!! I did Strength yesterday and for some reason didn't have maximum energy.

I will be doing Back to Core pretty soon. Tomorrow is Vertical Plyo which is a killer. then a Relief day, then my first attempt at Game Day. yikes.

Hey marc...

You're a real inspiration to folks. wondering if you ever tried buffered creatine to give you the energy you may not have at times. I've taken it when I know I'm not feeling up to my best and really does work. No loading, no on and off, you just take em' when needed.

I also bought something from purity products just off a radio commercial here in California and I have to say the free bottle (4.95 shipping) really does work. It's only been 3 days but all 3 days have been the most alert and productive i've had this month. This stuff is called CO-Q-MAx Daily with Resveratrol.

Just thought i'd chime in and let you know what's actually worked of me. By the way the creatine is Kre-Akalyn. I take the PRO instead of the 1500.

I will take my fit test tomorrow and start on Monday. The sad part is that my ceiling is too low here in the house and i'll have to do it at the fitness center at my work which means doing it at 7am in the morning when I prefer to do it in the evening but hey it's only 30 days..

Keep on inspiring my brother and i'll hit this thread again after my first workout..
