2-Day Fast Instructions
2-Day Fast Instructions
4/17/11 2:13 PM
My wife and I are planning on doing the 2-Day Fast next weekend. We’ve got two cans of the shake mix but we don’t have any instructions on how to proceed. Logic tells me that we drink nothing but the shake mix, water, and calorie-free liquids (coffee or tea without sugar and milk for example) but I would really like some sort of instructions. I’m surprised nothing is posted on the website (if it is, I can’t find it). Any advice, links, or scans of the instructions would be greatly appreciated.

The direction are pretty simple - right there on the label:

Directions: For best results, mix 1 level scoop with 8 ounces of cold
water 3 times daily (e.g., morning, afternoon, and evening). To eliminate
lumps, mix in a blender.

I'd be careful with caffeine though. Your stomach will be pretty sensitive.

My sister says that you are allowed to eat small portions of fruit to curb the hunger pains, is this true? I also would like more insight to the "FULL" instructions. Not just what is on the label.

I do not see how something like fruit would curb hunger. I would think the insulin response would make you hungrier in a short time if not instantly.

Push -

Personally, a piece of fruit curbs my hunger. I would imagine it depends on your biology, but for most healthy people, the fiber in a piece of fruit should manage the insulin enough to make it work. Also, your blood sugar will be lower during a fast, so you'll be filling the tank, as opposed to potentially oversaturated.

That said, you are correct that it's not as ideal for managing hunger as, say, a handful of raw nuts, which will digest at a crawl thanks to the fat, fiber and protein. But fruit is generally what we recommend during a fast because it's more of a cleansing food. It flushes through you and aids in cleaning you out, which is the goal.

At the end of the day, you're going to be hungry during a fast. It will probably be uncomfortable. You can try to add something to fight that, but odds are that if you add enough to feel satiated, you won't be fasting anymore. I'd probably just recommend the fruit if you're running out of energy and your blood sugar is tanking to the point of complete discomfort. And in this case, fruit is perfect because it's recharging your blood sugar.

I'm on day 2 (lunch) and I mixed it with hot water because it's freezing out here. is that a huge deal? should I take an additional scoop tonight?

That's fine. Normally you probably wouldn't do that but nobody wants you to freeze to death!
