Calories burned?

Can a fitness guru tell me roughly how many calories you burn for each insanity workout. For example if I did the full Max Cardio Conditioning , how many calories did i burn during that workout?

It is a function of your body makeup and your intensity during the workout. So no, no one can give you anything more than a rough estimate. You can get monitors in which you put your personal information and then tracks your heart rate during the workout which can give you a better estimate.

my personal averages:
phase 1 insanity routines: 700cal
phase 2 insanity routines: 1000cal
asylum speed & agility: 1000cal in 45 minutes this morning, pesonal best!

a HRM is the only way you are going to get YOUR numbers. just make sure you plug in all of your correct information: age, weight, max HR, etc and voila.

I'm 32, 5"10, and weigh about 170 lbs. I have completed Insanity once and P90X...my average burn for phase 1 was between 400 and 500 calories and my average for phase 2 was between 800 and 900. I went hard during every workout and wore a Polar FT7 HRM.

I don't know how people burn in the thousands!

Hope that helps...

Its amazing how different the bodybugg is when compared with a HRM. I know I'm smaller than you guys, but I did Max Interval Circuit and burned 350calories and I put all effort into it. I've been told that HRM's show higher numbers, I guess that's true. I'd love to hear more answers from people. emoticon

Cals burned vary from person to person, depending on weight, age, gender, and intensity of workout.

I'm 42, 5'8 and 180 lbs. My Insanity workout burns vary but are pretty close to jmclark's numbers: 500-600 for Month 1 workouts and 750-900 on the Month 2 burns. Cardio Abs usually adds around 180. Core Cardio and Balance and Fast and Furious usually clock in the low 300s.

I used a Garmin FR60 to track my workout calorie burns.

I'm no fitness guru but I'll share my own experience and understanding of how calculating your calorie burn works. Here is a good link that discusses this topic in a very understandable manner as well provides some useful tools.

The way I understand it there is a formula used to calculate calories burned. Resting heart rate, gender, age, height and weight all factor in some how. My Mio heart rate monitor watch had me test my HR upon waking without an alarm clock to set my resting heart rate. Which incidentally was about 20 bpm less than my "sitting in a chair" resting heart rate. My HRM isn't continuous so I check it pretty frequently during my work outs, especially if I think my rate is changing. The monitors which constantly check your heart rate, like a Bodybug or Polar would probably be more accurate. The more frequent the polling the more accurate the calculation.

I am in the mid 220 pounds, my resting heart rate is 49, and during Insanity month 1 workouts I tend to be in the low to mid 90th percentile of maximum heart rate according to my Mio. My average kcal burn is between 950-1150. Here is a pic after PCC taken during Week 4 of my 2nd round of Insanity.

My HRM estimates about 750-900 for phase 1 and 900-1100 for phase 2. I am 41 y.o. man about 5'11 210 lbs and my HR stays between 80-90% of max

I use a body bugg and only burn around 365 calories during a Max workout. My calorie burn is about the same for the month 1 workouts as well. I'm 5'9" and weigh about 131. My heart rate is through the roof & I am sweating buckets. I can basically complete the workout w/very few rest breaks now. I think if I had a HRM, my calorie burn would be so high.

Read any review about that motiva hrm watch and you will find that watch is not accurate at all estimates way to high caloires burned by 300 maybe, and do the same workout twice and be 400 calories different, I would stay away from that watch

just depends on your heart rate and how hard you push... On a mountain bike ride I can burn about 1200 cal. per hour and that is pushing about all out! On an Insanity workout.. I can burn about 1000 cal per hour.. I just can not keep my heart rate up as high in the workout...

I'm a 22 year old female. 5'4. 115 lbs. During the phase 1 (regular workouts) I burn 200-300 Calories.
For the phase 2 (max interval) I burn 350-375.

I did the Max Interval Plyo today and burned 374 calories. I push hard and get it all done. Since I'm smaller and weigh less, I burn less calories. Depending on your size, build, avg. heart rate, and Vo2 max, you will burn differently!!

I have a FT60 Polar Heart rate monitor. It's awesome and I HIGHLY recommend it! When I see what zone I'm in, I always push harder. And when I see how many calories I've burned I either push harder, or get happy because it's more than expected.

My range for all the videos is 300-700 depending on how in/out of shape I am (according to my heart rate monitor anyway). Obviously the ones closer to 700 are the ones that are MAX anything. I'm 5'7" and 130 lbs.

Interesting to see what others are burning.

Phase 1: 700-750 calories per workout. I'll peak over 800 sometimes if I'm adding abs that day

Phase 2: 900-1200 calories per workout. I do Insane abs over cardio abs in phase 2 sometimes, so that attributes to the wider swing.

With Insanity, I burn an average of 10 calories per minute. Less with the recovery DVD. Depending on how hard I push my self, it is sometimes more, sometimes less.

I am 46, 5'1" and 129 lbs

Calories burned is always a great topic. The issue is no one can tell you exactly what you will burn.

The only way to know what you have burned is to use a HRM. You need a HRM which continuously monitors your heart rate. (most of these will require wearing a chest strap.) Make sure to update your HRM with your correct weight as you have a significant gain or lose.

Average Men Vs Average Women – Both individuals have the same height and weight. In a typical day without exercise the man will burn about 10-12% more calories than the woman. This is due to the body composition.

Body Fat Percentage – Two people of equal weight the same gender. One has a BF of 15%, the other has a BF of 9%. In a typical day the individual with 9% body fat will burn more calories. Muscle burns more calories than fat.

Intensity level of the workout – Pushing harder and faster will burn more calories!

When I started insanity I was burning 400-600 calories per workout in month one. During my second run through insanity I was burning 550-800 calories in month one.

Do HRM know if you are muscular or what your BF% is?
Are HRM the best tool to have accurate cal counts or simply the easiest, albeit not most accurate, to use?
