RE: Problem with the Insanity diet
Showing 12 results.
I love Insanity! But I'm having problems with the diet:

I'm 5ft 2in, 135 lbs, 28 yrs old. According to the Insanity book, I should be eating 1900 calories a day. I've been eating around 1600-1700 cause 1900 seems like a heck of a lot.
I've been trying to get the 4-5 meals in a day. I'm on the third week of Insanity and I love to run so I've been running a few miles 2-3 times a week.

Here's the problem:
I feel like on some days I'm super hungry. Even if I stay strict to the book and eat the meals. And usually my meals tend to be a little higher in calories as compared to the book. I drink a ton of water, a cup of hot tea a day, no soda. I still have a sweet tooth but I try to keep it at bay with a tiny bit of chocolate here and there.
So far I have seen results in my muscle tone in my legs and arms but nowhere else. And I really would like to flatten my stomach and lose inches around my midsection. Which to me means diet right?

Any thoughts as to how I can get some better results?

First, let's make sure we're on the same page here. How are you sure that the slightly higher calorie meals and bits o' chocolate still equate to 1700 calories?

Also, have you been measuring inches or pounds?

Finally, how long have you been at it?

Hi!

I use myfitnesspal.com to document all of my intake which counts calories and nutrients.

I measure both inches and pounds. The pounds haven't budged but I'm down 3 inches overall but none in my waist.

I'm almost finished with my third week of Insanity.

During my 2nd week of Insanity I experienced huge carving for dark chocolate & hunger.
I did research. Recovering formula was the answer. I chose (as e.g. Michael Phelps does) natural over commercial ones: chocolate milk within 15 min past workout.
I use 1 cup of 2% milk (about 130 kCal), 1 Tbsp cocoa (10 cal) & stevia or truvia as sweetener (0 kCal). It resolved the problems.

I am in a similar boat as you. I started Insanity last week and I'm about to start week 2. I have not lost any weight, I actually gained a pound. (I have been following the diet to a "t".) I know it's not much but when you want to lose, going up in weight disturbs me. I am supposed to eat 1900-2000 calories a day which seems like a lot to me since I have always been told to eat less calories to lose weight. My inches have NOT budged either. I also do cardio kickboxing 5 days a week on top of Insanity. Hopefully week 2 will bring some changes or I will really be disappointed.

If you get any good advise let me know.

Hmmmm maybe I can give this a shot with soy milk. I can't drink regular milk. Do you drink this after each workout?

Three inches in three weeks is pretty good. Typically, this means you have a fair bit of muscle to build, so it's replacing the fat you're losing on the scale. If you're hungry all the time, you have a few hundred calories to play with before you erase your deficit, so I'd go up to 1900 and see what happens. I don't think it'll slow fat burning and you might feel better.

But add those calories with healthy foods, not chocolate!

I have a question regarding the meals in Insanity. Must I only choose my breakfasts from Meal 1, morning snack from Meal 2, lunch from Meal 3 and so forth or can I mix and match all meals from the entire five meal menus as their calories, carbs, fiber and protein are all almost identical? Thanks!

Chocolate is my weakness!! But I have noticed that since I've started the program, even when I have the cravings, a few bites are plenty for me. I had some chocolate the other day and it actually made my stomach hurt! Disappointing, but it put things into perspective.
I have recently increased my calories to 1900 and I feel a lot better. I used to get really hungry later in the day but that has seemed to subside. I'm starting my fourth week of Insanity tomorrow so we'll see!!

Thanks!!

Hi runnergirl!

I have switched some meals around. Usually my third and fifth meal. Recently I have found that pasta makes me very bloated so a few days I have swapped and had the chicken meatballs and pasta for the third meal instead of the fifth. I'm not sure if it really matters but I do it haha.

Maybe your body needs magnesium? If you have cravings for chocolate you might consider e.g. dark chocolate (min 70% cocoa) 1oz will not hurt, or chocolate protein shake as one meal.

Flipping the meals around isn't a problem.
