I'll be 49 this year, and loved the Insanity Program, I already bought Asylum but haven’t got the room sorted out to start yet.

Suzanne: great to hear...hope its going well for you. I'm a P90x grad and for me, Asylum takes it to a whole different level. Tough stuff!

Jonboy: if you have any questions before getting started, just let me know.

Swisstrader: Yes, I am also a P90X and P90X+ graduate, but I have a martial arts background and Asylum is really what I am used to do. Nevertheless, I have my sore spots too but that is part of the game and leads to improvement. Glad you are in it also and going for it.emoticon

Hey Suzanne...I've also done quite a bit of martial arts (Tae Kwon Do and Judo), but nothing quite like this! So glad I have companyemoticonI also started May 2, but probably a day behind you because I had 2 days this weekend where I walked the golf course so pushed Speed and Agility to today...killer workout. Also jumping rope is a novel concept for me.

Swisstrader: My martial arts background is also in Taekwondo (and Krav Maga). I am with you with the rope. That is the one thing I have not really done before. I spend a couple days prior to starting Asylum practicing the moves with the jump rope because I get so frustrated when I have to interrupt and restart. Right now I have trouble with holding the reverse plank in good form, who would have thought! I do like the new challenges though. I have a friend doing Asylum and he just cannot get the jump rope coordinated. I got him a second rope and for now he is doing the moves while spinning a rope in each hand alongside. This way he gets the cardio and slowly learns the cadence coordination (and keeps his even temper...). I am suprised though about the quick improvements. I am only in week two, day 9, but can already tell a difference. emoticon Back when I started P90X it took me about a month before I felt I was improving and stopped being super sore.

Paqua: good stuff. Back to core is probably my favorite program in Asylum. I have the same routine for today. Keep us posted on progress.

I'm 51 and finished day 25 today. This is a tough week with 4 hard workouts in a row. Did Game Day and Overtime today. Tomorrow is vertical plyo. My knees are the thing that has been bothering me with all the jumping. I've done 5+ rounds of P90X and 2 full rounds of Insanity. Also have done a hybrid P90X/Insanity for a while. I'm looking forward to doing the hybrid workouts on the calendar. I want to get more weight lifting into the mix again. Asylum is absolutely the hardest thing I've ever done. Speed & Agility is my nemesis, but I push through it. I can tell that I'm getting better every day. I'm in the home stretch!

Great to see other people my age doing this crazy stuff!

Gary: you took the words right out of my mouth...Speed and Agility kills me. For many of the moves, I have to stop at 45 or 50 seconds. Also first time I've ever suffered from shin splints with all the jumping around, doing jump rope which is something Ive never done before (and struggle with!) and some of what's ailing me I believe has to do with a lack of any real warmup for each of the routines. Shaun calls it warm up, but for example with Strength, the very first move is to pickup your weights. Not a warmup. With P90x there was quite some time and focus on getting the body ready for what was to come...not with Asylum! Easily the toughest program Ive ever been through.

Interested in what results you are you seeing after being close to completion...did the program deliver on it's promises or did you simply maintain what you had? I'm only on Day 9 but feel much stronger and working a whole set of muscles I never did with P90x (also sore in places I never expected!). Still no 6 pack but after 50 seems to allude me.

All the being said, I still enjoy the madness. I'm also planning a P90x/Asylum hybrid when i complete Asylum. Good luck with the rest of your journey!

Yes, 2 very small colored bands (red and green). They were a bit hidden in my box and are pretty tiny, so make sure you pull apart the box to check. If not just call BB customer service.

I'm in my mid-50s doing Asylum. I did overtime for the first time yesterday and found many of its moves very challenging. This is one workout where only two of the best athletes join Shuan, so there weren't any easier modifications being demonstrated. Has anyone any thoughts on good substitutes for:

- decoy jumps from kneeling (I just leave out the decoy part and jump only)
- one legged plyo pushups to single leg balance in ladder (I was doing the double leg jump from Speed and Agility)
- clapping mountain climbers (found this hard for some reason -- maybe a balance issue - so just did regular MCs for now)

I also avoid the rock climber pull up bar moves because I find them hard on my elbows and I develop tendonitis there easily. I have been doing corn cob chins instead (using the chair as needed).

I also want to echo other's input about how imaginative and challenging this program is. Unlike P90X, it seems that only one person -- Shaun -- is involved in its design. I am very impressed by his combination of technical knowledge, coaching and demonstration, and of course tremendous fitness.

Swisstrader,
I have never really used a jump rope either before this. Many times I will put it down and do the moves without it. It's not worth being cheated out of the workout if I'm constantly messing up. My knees have been feeling better the past few days and I can't explain that since I have not taken a break from all the relentless plyometrics. I agree that there is not enough of a warm up before the work begins. I will warm up some before I even start the DVD.

I can tell that my body is adapting to the intensity at this point, but by no means is anything easy! I think that I have made a small gain from this program over what I achieved with Insanity, but mostly I would say that I've maintained. I hope that doing more of it with the hybrids and then coming back and doing the full program again will help me keep up with the kids. I am able to keep up with Insanity, but not as well with this program. I know that I will have lost some of my P90X strength level with the weights, but I'll work at getting it back with the hybrid. I can tell that my core is stronger than before, especially my lower back. All that swimming type of work on my stomach has done that!

Thanks for the encouragement!

Here is a picture of my progress as of yesterday:

Great job Gary! Do you have a before picture as well just to see progress. After only 8 days I'm definitely feeling stronger, although changes are probably less evident.

I'll post a before picture tonight when I get home from work. A lot of what I've gained is a combination of P90X and Insanity. I like to say I have abs courtesy of Shaun T!
