This thread is all about Accountability!

Here’s my story: I'm a recovering Couch Potato. I have always wanted to be athletic and active, but just never made it a priority. P90X always seemed like the way to go. I had started P90X at least 4 times without finishing. In fact, before this round, I never made it past week 4 or 5. I quickly learned that I needed just a little extra encouragement and accountability. Just couldn’t do it by myself. Life kept getting in the way. One missed workout would lead to another.

But, Not This Time!!! This time I was able to finish P90X. The only reason I was able to do it was because of this support group.

This thread is for those that want to succeed, but need a little extra motivation, accountability or encouragement along the way. Like me.

Don’t do it alone! We want to help you. We want you to join us. The more people that commit to this thread and their program the better!

Please join the group today. Click the “Last” button above to take you to the end of the thread. Introduce yourself and let us know how we can help you reach your goal.

It doesn’t’ matter where you are, what program you are doing, or what day you are on. All are welcome!

Let’s do this!!!

Ill join you Jeff. Like you about 2 months ago i started P90X and had some pretty good results going into Phase II. Then i went on vacation for a week and ate horribly. When i got back i made an excuse to skip the first workout..then the 2nd...etc. I am pissed at myself for doing this and have restarted the program on the 9th with a new focus. I rocked out Chest /Back on Monday and went strong thru Plyo day 2.
Get mad at Day 1 today and kick its ass. Let me know how it goes.

Couple quick questions...
1.) Are you guys doing the nutrition plan?
I'm not going to follow it to a tee but understand it and usually eat pretty well anyways. My problem is eating enough throughout the day every couple hours. Any thoughts on making this easier?

2.) How/what are you doing supplement wise?
Im on a bit of a budget here (who isnt now-a-days?) and am taking an over the counter multivitamin, drinking as much water as humanly possible, and a whey protein shake after my workouts. Any thoughts on any pre-workout supplements that get you amped up? Anything natural that doesnt cost 40 bucks!

Bryan. Thanks for joining me on this mission. I knew I couldn’t be the only one. I know what you mean about the vacation. I went to Philly for a couple weeks on business. Brought all my stuff with me, but only worked out one day. That’s where I fell apart last time.

I will kick Chest/Back’s ass today and post later tonight.

Great Questions about Diet/Supplements. I know that diet will make or break it when it comes to getting results. I also struggle with eating enough. Everyone says I have to eat a lot more than I do. It’s just not that easy though. I try to at least have a healthy snack a couple times a day.

I did take Jack3d as a pre-workout drink. I liked it a lot. Unlike a lot of supplements, I could actually feel the difference. Gave me a lot of energy. (It has a lot of caffeine.) I’m going to keep taking it for the time being.

Hawkizrok. Appreciate the support! Glad you could start today too.

I recommend the P90X recovery drink and then just an OTC supplement. I also have nutrition bars around me most of the time, so I can ward off hunger pains. You can get some good ones at a resonable price at almost any grocery store.

Hi guys! Got room for a girl on the team?

I have completed two rounds of P90X in the past, and want to start this next one this Saturday (May 14, 2011). I got great results the last two times I did the program, but my problem was that as soon as I was done, I would fall right off the radar for a few months and end up back tracking quite a bit. I have been training for the last few months for a trail running race I am doing in August, and need to build strength as well as endurance. I will be doing a sort of P90X doubles program, as I cannot completely let my cardio fall off the radar leading up to race day.

Here are a few things I have learned in the past when it comes to nutrition, eating and drinks with the program:

1) Any sort of multi-vitamin is a good idea. It is virtually impossible to get the necessary nutrients in your daily diet, even when leading a balanced life. If you are feeling a severe lack of energy, a B-vitamin complex often helps perk that up a huge amount. You would be amazed at the difference.

2) Although I adore the P90X Recovery formula, I have used other brands of recovery formula that work almost as well. Another low-budget option is...chocolate milk! That's right...it offers the 4:1 carbs:protein ratio you need after your workouts. It isn't the MOST effective, but it does the job. It is VITAL to drink some sort of recovery formula...particularily in the first week of each of the phases. The difference in muscle fatigue is amazing, and if you are ridiculously sore, you are less likely to do your workouts.

3) You MUST follow the diet plan if you want to see the optimal results. I generally use the portion control method, while utilizing some of the meal plan recipies (some are quite tasty). This is the area I struggle the most with, both in missing my favorite foods and in required prep time. However, this is something we all want to succeed at, and ultimately we want to reach our goal. I'll generally pick one or two nights a week to cook big portions, then freeze or refrigerate them. I, like everyone, am a busy person and this helps a lot.

4) Eating five times a day is also important. Three meals and two snacks. It keeps you fuller longer, and will also prevent you from gorging at meal times. If I time it right, I can go the whole day wothout feeling hungary once! Try to choose high protein snacks like cheese strings (fun and delicious), turkey jerky, salted soy nuts, hard boiled eggs or raw nuts. If you have to eat carbs, make them simple (ie. fruits) or high in fibre (12 grain bread over white bread or a bagel). I found the first Phase of the diet the worst, as it almost completely cuts out carbs. You can modify them a little, but keep track, write it all down, and keep yourself accountable! Try not to make excuses for yourself. This is another thing I really struggled with. Also remember that a cheat once and a while is not always a bad thing...but once and a while means once every two weeks, not once every two days. emoticon

Abs are made in the kitchen, my friends, not in the gym!

All in all, just show up, keep pushing play, and get ready for the ride of your life! In typical female fashion, I have talked you ear off, but I hope some of this insight has helped you all out! emoticon

Hi Pete! Welcome and good luck tomorrow!

Thanks for the great info thnatiuk! I like your quote "Abs are made in the kitchen, not the gym!" I might just post that on my fridge door.

Chest/Back/ARX is done! Glad to be back at it again.

Now for a light dinner, then off to Karate practice. Have a great night everyone! I'll check in tomorrow morning.

Hi Team! Hope everyone is good today. Got your workouts in? Pete/hawkizrok, you guys get started today???

Feeling it in my back a little today. Can tell I haven't been working out for a month.

So what's everyone's goals? Me... lose the goo. Could stand to lose 20 lbs, but would be happy with just putting on some muscle.

Anyway. Have a great day. I'll check in later after I do PLYO.

I like the accountability. First timer doing classic.

Started Day 1 classic at 6:00 am this morning (5/12/22). I'm an ex-runner (quit 2 years ago), so decent arobic shape but no (NONE, really) upper strenght or definition.

Terrible number of reps on all the excercises. And the abbs workout seemed impossible.

But I am motivated. If I can run Boston, I can do this for 90 days.....right?????

Glad you enjoy the quote jeff5by5. I try to keep it in mind myself. emoticon

My biggest goal here is to lose the goo as well. I would also love to have a trim, cut upper body (particularily my shoulders and arms). They are feeling a little loose these days, and are soon to be on display with the summer months fast approaching!

I start Chest and Back on Saturday. Oh pull up bar...how I missed you!

Thanks everyone for all the diet and supplement info. I think ill try that Jack 3d you mentioned Jeff. And i can drink chocolate milk? I am liking that as my whey protein is about gone. I also plan on going to the grocery this weekend to start planning my meals out. Having a wife and a 6 year old with a sweet tooth sure make it hard to remove all the temptation around the house!

I bought some 25 pound dumbbells this time around as I just wasnt feeling a good enough pump with the heavy bands. Last night i did shoulders and arms with them and it felt great. I highly suggest getting some free weights if your looking to bulk up as you tone. I still used the bands on some of the excercises though as 25's was a bit much for tricep kickbacks and the like.

UK and Dbro...good to have you aboard!

On to yoga tonight...gotta love that first 45 minutes of all those Vinyasa's! I wish i could just fast forward to the balance poses....

It gets easier dbro...I thought 75% of the ab ripper video was IMPOSSIBLE the first couple times i did it, but after doing phase 1, taking time off , and now restarting again i can do most of it. I still have a hard time getting 25 reps of any of the excercises without stopping though.

Welcome dbrotexas! Glad to have more accountability. I always seem to hit the wall around week 5, so I'm promising to be here week 6 and beyond.

Plyo done! I actually like this workout a lot. After doing Insanity last summer, this plyo seems "reasonable." Timed my workouts this round so that Yoga falls on Saturday. Maybe with more time on the weekends, I'll be less likely to skip or cut it short.

thnatiuk, you missed your pull up bar??? You're sick!

Bryan, I bought a set of Powerblocks awhile back. I really like them. Kind of a big one time expense, but cheaper in the long run. Not as convenient as free weights, but they don't take up much room, and they are easy to change weights. I'd recommend them.

Planning on doing Shoulders/Arms in the morning about 5:30AM central. See you in WOWY if anyone is interested.

Hi All,

Sorry for the late reply my car blew up yesterday so was delayed.

First day - Chest & Back with Ab Ripper X was very intense but awesome, however I was frustrated with myself with the small amount of pushs up I could do. I was aiming for 10 but was only able to do 6-7.

How is everyone else doing?

dbroTexas I feel the exact same in regards to the push up reps and AbRipper, but with time we will be able to bring it some more!!

So glad too see UKMurphy had the same pain day 1.

Already completed day 2 plyo (I am getting up at 6 am). Much better for me, arobic based and no weights. I have real fear about tommorrow with Shoulders and Arms. My arms are not moving that well from yesterday emoticon

Nice to see the posts from everyone, comming from differnet places and situations. It would be really cool if we all crossed the finish line together in 88 days (give or take a day).

Pete, sorry to hear about the car. That sucks.

Got up early this morning and did Shoulders/Arms/ARX. Felt good to get it out of the way early. Although, I'm pretty beat. Probably be zonked out early tonight.

Tomorrow is Yoga. Actually kind of looking forward to it. The added flexibility will help with my Karate practice. (At least that's my theory.)

Keep up the good work everyone! Have a great weekend and stay active. Enjoy the spring weather.
