Back Pain due to Insanity workout?
Showing 13 results.
I am on Day 53 of the Insanity workout (I'm almost done!) and for the last couple of days I have been having back pain. It is even hard for me to find a comfortable position sleeping at night. Yesterday, I did the recovery day for week 8 of the workout, but I could not bring myself to exercise today because I am going to Europe next week and do not want to have a back injury. I also noticed that I was having pain on my left upper abs as well.

I really do not want to stop since I am so close to finishing because I am afraid I will not get the maximum results. Of course, I know my health is the most important thing so I will stop, but does anyone have input onto whether I have already gotten the most out of the program? In other words, by not completing the last week will I not see as drastic results? Also, can I just start at the same point after the back pain stops?

Thank you!

Sorry to hear about your pain, personally myself, I am in my 6th week and I have missed a number of workouts BUT, I just pick up from where I leave off. I had back surgery about 6 years ago and I am moving through this routine at my pace and intend to either go through it again after it is done or maybe start P90x, but the important thing is working it within YOUR limits. If you are getting results thats great don't quit, if you have to put it aside for a bit then do so then pick back up where YOU feel comfortable. Its not going anywhere unless you borrowed it emoticonIf you are hurting the best thing to do if you can not perform with the proper posture as Shaun T ALWAYS says, then stop for now, you will risk further injury if you comprimise your posture. Don't sweat it, Do the best you can and listen to YOUR body. With back pain I found moist heat is very helpful, how pad with a damp rag or something.......Hope this helps out, Best to you and have a safe trip

I just spoke with my TBB coach about this. What she said made some serious sense.

It's probably nutrition. Lemme 'splain.

While it's probably not an issue with calorie surplus or deficit, it's most likely a vitamin deficiency. So you can either try the Shakeology, which has a ton of the vitamins you need, or make sure you use the Results & Recovery formula (check out the vitamin intake on that - it'll surprise you), or take a multivitamin like Centra.

I have a similar issue as you, as I've got six bulging T&L discs through my spine, so many of the items hurt like hell. Based on Julie's advice, I'm gonna start taking Centra and see what happens.

Not completing the last week is frustrating, but will not make or break the program. yes, you might miss out on a few killer workouts, but it is not the end of the world. I would first try to figure out what is causing the pain with a health care practitioner, and try to avoid it continuing. And then get into a pool, on a stationary bike or eliptical machine, or anything else that will lessen the impact on your back until you are healed.

Try to do some gentle yoga, sun salutations and twisting chair poses done slowly and only as far as you can go and only if it doesn't hurt. I had back pain after jogging for too long and it helped a lot.

It has let me enjoy the life of riding magic carpets. JK.

For real, when I did Insanity the first time, I had to stop 2 weeks before finishing because I got tendinitis in my knee from my brand new treadmill I had gotten. The first time using it. I couldn't workout for 2 weeks waiting for my knee to heal. I was so pissed. I totally understand your frustration. But you really need to listen to your body. Rest a few days, do some light stretching and start back up where you left off.

I was done exactly 6 weeks and 2 more weeks to go last sunday. I don't know what happened, I went for my regular walk in the morning after 2-3 miles I could not move up ir down. I could walk, it was my lower back. I was so mad that I was not able to finish my last 2 weeks. I'm going to wait for one week and see how things are going. I never had lower back issue.
I'm so mad...oh well!

Do you think it's an injury related to the workout or something else?

I think it's always best to give that kind of back pain some time to resolve. You can always pick up where you left off.

Yes, I think its due to work out. Some of the workouts are very intensive. I'm getting better but not fully recovered.

I did not do Insanity since 8/11 but I go to gym and do light workout and do breathing excercises in the morning and some for my back. It helped me alot and I'm almost back to normal. I'm thinking starting back where I left but I need to be very carefull and need to modify some of those excercises. Lets see how it goes.

I feel your pain buddy.

I had part of my L4/L5 disc removed two years ago and am supposed to exercise a few times a week for general health and well-being. Going to the gym feels good - jogging, running, cycling, crunches and some yoga moves that I got from a physiotherapist and, for the most part, I feel ok. Still have the odd bad day but that's to be expected.

I put on a bit of weight around my surgery as I physically couldn't manage to exercise - it just hurt too much - and general gym work wasn't shifting the weight and a few guys on Twitter were talking about Insanity so I thought I'd give it a go.

I can deal with the leg pain, that's my body just not being used to the immense workout it's doing and I really like burning 450-500 calories a night, six nights a week but I'm struggling this week with my back. I'm only in the second week and it's absolutely killing me, I don't think a lot of the exercise really take into account bad backs as there's a lot of hyper-extension and curvature of the back. Tbh, some of it seems focussed on legs/shoulders/arms and quite lazy in terms of good posture.

It's not doing me any favours at all and might ultimately make me quit.
