40 Year Old, Before & After
40 Year Old, Before & After

I began on January 2nd of this year, following very strictly the eating and workout program of P90x. I'm very excited for the results and can't wait to do another phase at the beginning of next year.

I did cheat during March Madness, as it's my favorite time of the year, but got right back on the horse afterwards.

After completing P90x, I began my own 'maintain' phase where I plan on staying until the New Year arrives again. Basically this whole summer I want to enjoy myself, however I am staying very active and trying to eat generally good.

Anyhow, here's my pics: (Before p90x - 45 days - Post p90x)

During my maintain phase, I have been playing beach volleyball twice a week, along with running 2 miles on workout days and riding bike 15 miles on off days. I take one day off per week for rest. During the workout days, I switch weekly. One week I do Chest & Back & Shoulder and Arms along with another Back day. The following week I do Chest, Shoulders & Triceps and Back & Biceps. Now for each workout day, I only do 1/2 the sets, and mix in Ab ripper while doing them. I also run 2 miles pre-workout. It works for me to maintain, and actually I've gotten a little more muscle/definition during my 'maintain' phase.

All the hard work was worth it, being able to go shirtless again without
feeling self conscious is nice! Especially on the beach.

Thanks for looking!

Wow. Great results. Good for you!

The profile shots are especially telling - you look completely different from your face all the way down.

Great job.

Wow... Those are fantastic results. You should definitely be proud of what you've accomplished. Keep it up. I'm on day 70 and I've seen results, but nothing this impressive.

Thanks, I appreciate the compliments. Not going to lie, that's always a huge boost to the ego and pumps me up to continue to achieve better results. Hearing compliments from friends that I haven't seen in awhile. Going from 230 to 185 is a huge difference mentally and physically.

I'm still going to just maintain with my made up routine until New Years, but I'm excited to go hard another round on January 1st. I'm pretty sure I'll look even better after that with hard work and strict eating again.

Trying to decide if I should do Insanity next, or another round of P90x.

I would like to actually get more cut, especially in the midsection, but I'd also like to continue getting stronger.

I'm not sure what exactly people mean when they mix both. Maybe they have done both already so know what exactly to hybrid between the two.

I'm kind of thinking doing another round of p90x soon, then moving onto Insanity for the new year.

Good job. I did X, X+ and now I'm doing INSANITY. But I'm mixing in Total Body +, Abx and Abcore+ once per work to help maintain muscle. INSANITY is def beastly and will help melt away the fat while getting you cut, but it's also mainly cardio with some resistence. Where as X is mainly resistance with some cardio.

My personal goal is to finsih Insanity and then move on to X2.
Here is an example of an I X hybrid: INSANITY/P90X HYBRID

Danny
Ps: I'll be 43 in Jan

Assuming you still look like your after pictures (or have even put on 10 pounds), another round of p90x will get you pretty cut. Insanity would probably do it quicker, but you wouldn't get the additional strength that you would with p90x.
That being said, I think either of the workouts alone will get you where you want to go. As for doing a hybrid, there are a lot of good ones out in cyberspace that you can look up. No prior experience necessary. Just be warned though, if you are starting Insanity, it is a lot like starting p90x for the first time. You won't be able to keep up on day 1. After my first round of p90x, I did Insanity, and I vividly remember thinking I was going to die about 8 minutes into the workout, right about the time Shaun T says something about this being the "warmup" emoticon But just like p90x, if you stick with it, you will get much much better.

Thanks, I really appreciate it. After a Florida vacation and a San Francisco business trip (where I worked out first morning, but didn't have time the next 4 days) I have worked my tail off the past 2 weeks and am right back to where I ended, at 185. (same as the after pics).

I think I am just going to do another hard round of p90x. Going to continue running/biking and working out 3 days a week until the New Year. Then go real hard on another round.

Thanks for advice guys!
