RE: About doing Insanity and P90x at the same time
About doing Insanity and P90x at the same time
insanity p90x same time

Hello

Long version:
I'm currently at the end of month 2 of p90x (rest week) and got the go ahead to do the insanity workout from my physician. I was told that since I'm not working I can do both insanity and p90x, one in the morning and one in the afternoon (allowing me time to rest between workouts).
My question is about the insanity diet plan. Since I am doing month 3 of p90x and month 1 of Insanity, does that mean the normal 5 meals a day diet plan that was designed specifically for insanity won't work for me? Keep in mind that when month 2 of insanity begins, I will be done with p90x and will therefor be back to a normal 1 time a day workout, just in time for the harder workouts tailor made for insanity.

Short version:
Is the diet plan for insanity(if followed correctly) going to need to be changed if I am doing p90x as well?

Extra information: I am looking for fast results because I am trying to join the military and I want to meet their standards. I have one month before I can contact them again regarding the minimum requirements. I do have cross trainer shoes, results recovery drink, protein powder etc etc etc...

If you need more information, please ask! If this has been covered, please provide a redirect link,

Thank you

First and foremost, a fair warning: both of these programs are high intensity programs and are not meant to be done at the same time. Doing so may, in fact, rob your body of much-needed recovery time and actually slow your results. My preference, if you need to get in shape faster than P90X or INSANITY alone can do for you, would be to simply incorporate INSANITY cardio work into the P90X schedule in place of workouts like Plyo X and Kenpo X.

That said, if you're bound and determined to do both, you definitely need to increase your calorie intake from what either program would recommend, as you'll need the extra calories for recovery. I know that the INSANITY nutrition plan focuses more on weight loss, so I'd start with the P90X intake as your baseline and work from there. However, instead of rounding down to your nearest level as the calculation on page 4 of the guide recommends, I'd take your RMR + your daily burn + 600 and eat at that level at first. If you find yourself low on energy, add a few hundred calories per day until you feel better.

Overall though, as much as I understand your urgency, I wouldn't recommend the both-programs-at-once approach. It is entirely up to you though, so just take precaution if you go that route to avoid overtraining and injury.

Hope that helps.

Definitely understandable that you want fast results. I would normally caution people against doing Insanity and P90X workouts on the same day, but some people can handle it and I've seen a few people get some good results doing that.

I would agree with the other person here that you will need to increase your calorie intake. If you're really pushing yourself you could be burning an additional 800 calories just from the Insanity workout alone. So you want to take that into account when you're figuring out your calorie target. You definitely still want to eat at a calorie deficit to lose the weight.

If you do decide to sub the Insanity cardio days in for Plyo X and Kenpo, here's a schedule that I have followed P90X/Insanity Hybrid

Hope that helps!

Tom

I recently tried that myself. I was doing Insanity in the morning and P90 in the afternoon. I did it for a month. It was fun, but I was not getting the results that I wanted. My goal was to lose some body fat. I chocked the lack of result to not enough (good) calories. I'm currently deployed in Afghanistan and the selection of food stinks. I stopped P90 and started to see result right away. Now this is my 2nd round of Insanity so I thought my body would be able to handle it. If you plan on doing both you will definitly have to increase the calories. Good luck on your enlistment.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. If you're already in great shape, then maybe but from the sounds of it, you're trying to get into shape.

This is a recipe for overtraining. If you're doing both programs at 100%, there are going to be days where you are working the same muscle groups twice in a day or within a 24 window. I couldn't imagine doing Max Plyo (Level 3 drills, squat push ups, etc) combined with chest, shoulders, tris. Overtraining could lead to injury.

However, if you do decide to proceed, I wish you the best but listen to your body and don't over do it.

Have you looked at the P90X Doubles schedule? I think it would be much better to do that than to try doing two different programs on top of each other. I also think Bandit's advice about subbing in the Insanity cardio workouts in place of the P90X cardio workouts is a good hybrid that won't be so likely to overstress your body.
