p90x and first 5k
8/11/11 8:04 PM
So my name is Danni, I started p90x last year however I did have to stop due to getting pregnant shortly after! So now a year later I am starting back up! I also got asked from a freind to start training for a 5k! So far we are a week in training and today was day 3 of p90x! I am looking for people to join this with me and give each other pointers on how to stick with and get over obstacles!

I am 26 years old and I have a son who turned 3 in april and a daughter who just turn 6 weeks! I am really looking forward to becomeing a healthy mom for them and hopefully instill the mindset to be healthy and to workout for the rest of their lives!

I am currently fighting diabetes and high cholesterol, and I am really hoping to cure both with my new lifestyle! One of my obstacles that I am working on right now is having the time for everything in the day! I am nursing my daughter, which is great beause I am burning about 500 more calories a day, however I have to eat more calories because I am nursing. My goal is to try and get them spread throughout the day (better than I have it now) to try and help with my weight loss.

I am looking for anyone and everyone to join me in this journey! I am also looking forward to getting to know you and helping you with anything I can! Being a coach has helped me become a better person and become a better motivater to myself as well!

I am looking forward to this journey! And cant wait to see who is going to join in!

Thanks
Danni

Hi Danni, I wanted to congratulate on the birth of your child and your commitment to want to live a healthy lifestyle. I have been in and out of fitness my whole life and let myself slip away from fitness for about 5 years. I have Insanity and P90x, have finished Insanity last year, which was very difficult. I started P90x 33 days ago and love the results I am getting. The most important thing I can tell you is that you should always write your goals down to help keep you focused on what you want to achieve within your fitness. When training with P90x and also doing jogging/running training make sure you give your body enough time to heal. The worse thing you can do is push to hard at the beginning and injure yourself.

As far as obstacles go, look at them like this. You have decided to take the matter of your health into your own hands by wanting to get fit. Think of an obstacle as an everyday occurrence, just look at the sticky notes that you have written and placed around to remind you of the reason why you are getting fit. You can also put pictures of your kids in a place that you can see them while you are hard at fitness, they make for instant inspiration.

If you need any help with reaching your goals and I can help do not hesitate to ask. I can also give you some pointers on training for a 5k. I used to do triathlons.

Enjoy your journey and remember the rewards are lifelong!

Stephen

Thank you for the boost Stephen! I am taking it slow this time around, after running a few days my knees started bothering me, they are feeling alot better now though but they still are sore! just one more thing I am working around! I am very excited to have started this and I plan on getting as many people involved as possible. People around me.. I come from an area that isn't that fit and I would love to help change that...one person at a time! STarting with me obviously! Hopefullythe trend with catch on! Everyday is another day to wake up and make a difference!
I need some ideas to get the idea out to the community, it is hard to get their interest and keep it,and I wat to do both! I have been thinkng about this for awhile now, about starting something to help people get in shape in my community. People just arent motivated (even if the motivation is there) to get up and go. How can I change that???

Everything has been going great! My knees are feelings great even after I run so I can't wait to just up everything and really do my 5k plan to plan! I am getting very close though andvery proud of how far I have come! I got off track these past couple of days with my p90x, and I am very disappointed in myself because of that, however tomorrow is a new and I will start fresh!

EVeryone falls off the wagon once in awhile, with two kids it is bound to happen! I am getting up early so I can make sure to get it done! I have to be strict with myself!! My new schedule when I go back to work is going to have to be working out before work. I am not going to like it but I know I have to do it!

I hope everyone else can do their workouts without to much trouble! This is something I have to work on, so that is my next goal!

HI Danni,
Good luck on the 5k. A few years ago my wife trained for a 5k shortly after giving birth to our 2nd little girl and she used P90X and the occasional Slim in 6 workout to help gether ready for it. I know it wasn't easy, so you have my sympathy and best wishes. Glad to see you are doing so well with it. I was going to recommend starting slow, but it doesn't look like that work is in your vocabulary. I think you are rockin it! Don't worry about getting off track. It happens. I fell off the wagon the first few times I tried P90X, so Good work. Keep it going and keep checking back. I would love to hear how you do. Good luck! emoticon

Starting slow is definatly not in my vocabulary, I go big or go home!!! I did have some trouble with knees first starting out with the running, but since then they have healed and I have been adding running time every day we run now! I was so scared of not being able to do it, but I just realized I have to take things slower because of knees and not go in full force. But still faster then some people!!! I am starting back to work in 2 weeks so once again my schedule will be changing! I am not looking forward to work, or the challange of balancing 2 kids, work, and working and me time. I barely get me time now!! I am however looking forward to proving to myself I can make it work! People ask all the time "how do you find time with 2 kids", My reply to them is always the same, "you have to want it bad enough, and you need to make time for yourself." If you are not ready for that big of a commitment then it won't work and you will fall off the wagon and just stay off because you will get discouraged. If you areready you are going to fall off 100 times and get right back on the following day each and every time!

Don't get me wrong, working out was not on my top ten favorite things to do a couple of years back, even early last year it wasn't. However, I made a decision I don't want to be on medicine my whole life just to control my sugar and cholesterol, I am 26 years old with 2 kids. I want to be healthy for them! I have now learned to LOVE working out, and if I can make myself sweat even more I will, IF you learn to love the sweat then eventually thats what you will strive for! Granted with it being cooler inside and out I do not sweat as much, which i hate cause I want too, but I know I am still getting a good workout in!

Thank you for the support! We all need support and encouragment! I am lucky to have the family and freinds that I do that will keep me going! I don't plan on stopping...EVER!!!!

Danni,

It's great that you are doing all this. I started running back in March and doing other programs to get myself in shape for P90X. I found that doing some research on running form online really helped me with my shin splints so maybe it might help you with your knees. Also, there is this thing called pronation and if you over or under promate and have the wrong shoes, it might cause extra stress on the knees. You might want to go to a really good running store that specializes in running and have them check you out. They will be able to recommend the right shoes or insoles to help.

You might also want to take some glucosamine and make sure it has MSM, Chondroitin and Hyloronic Acid in it. It helps your joints. I noticed a big difference when I recently ran out of it.

I just started week two of P90X Lean after about 50 days of Power 90 to get up to it. Its a struggle but I am doing it. Bought a pull up bar and right now all I can do it hang and barely can do that but I am working on it. Its a process and one of the these days I will surprise myself with my first pull up.

As for blood pressure and diabetes, you need to take Shakeology. I went from 230 cholesterol to 156. It really changed my life. (Thyroid Disease and Celiac's). I don't add any sugar to my food. I was definately a sugar hounds 6 tsp in a large tea. Now its Stevia only, it has an aftertaste but you get used to it. Some brands are better than others. I use Stevia in the Raw. I know its all natural and can't hurt me so its worth the change.

The workout thing is addicting. If someone would have told me I would run my first 5K race this year, I would have laughed myself silly but I did and it did it in 32.26. I didn't think I owned tricps but they are starting to show. With every little change, I am feeling more energized. I also get up at 4:30 every morning to work out before the world get started. It sucks getting up that early but it is my time and it is peaceful and I am uninterupted. When I get done, I head to the shower with my Shakeology in hand.

About the sweating. I just bundle up when I run outside even if I can get away with something lighter. I love to sweat as well and would rather be hot than cold. (Thyroid thing but useful).

Best of Luck and keep up the good work.

p90x half marathon running shoes
9/19/11 9:15 AM as a reply to YankeeChris.
I was goping to look into glucosamine..however, I am nursing still so I can't take it yet! My sister just got done with a half marathon so she has been helping me alot as well with trying to find the right shoes and everthing because yes..I do walk on theoutsidesof my foot!

I do really well with p90x, I use bands instead of trying for pullups..we have no where for a pullup bar!! and I am on shakeology..almost 2 months now! As for getting up in the morning, I am working on that..I just need to find the motivation in myself and energy to get up and actually workout cause I know I would feel alot better if I do, and not so tired through the day till I get my workout done!

I am still in a learning process but I am working with what I know and learning along the way.

Once I get back to work I am going to go to a sports store and get a good pair of running shoes! I need to spend the extra money..as of right now I am really concentrating on how my feet land..which isnt always easy when running!!

Thank you for the advice!!!

Hi Danni, I dont have much advice but I started P90X about 6 months ago and have lost 27 pounds. I will also be running my first 5K run at the end of October, so I started running about 3 weeks ago. Started with 1.5 miles and every two weeks I add a half mile. I run at least 4 days a week. Just wanted to add that there are times, when I dont feel like getting up but I push myself to do it and by the time I get passed the warm up I am usually wide awake. I dont have any babies, but I have a 10 yr old and a 13 yr old, so the only time I can exercise is at 430 in the morning! So I know you get tired and wore out, but just "Bring it" and you will feel awesome!

p90x runners knee
9/22/11 7:23 AM as a reply to Danni8504.
So on Tuesday when we did training for our 5k I pulled off four 3 minute runs, tonight I am going to take an easy and soo how long it takes on sunday to do the whole 3 miles for me! I am registered for a 5k on october 1st, and I know I won't be able to run the whole thing and I will be walking. But I am determined to do it and determined to finish without killing my knees!

My body has been sore, I'm not sure why which is another reason I am not pushing to much. I don't want to set myself back so, tonight will be a test. I did my cardio x and resting now until tonight!

The most important thing for everyone is to listen to your body, I know I was going to have too, especially after 2 days of running I got really bad "runners knee" so I know when I am doing to much but not over do it to where it sets me back a week or 2 like last time!

I am very proud of myself as should everyone else on here, whether just starting out or have been working out for years! We all made a decision and I am so glad to be apart of this team, Helping people and encouring others! Its a beautiful thing!

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Hi Danni!! I just did Day 1 of P90X and myself and a friend are training for our first 5K at Halloween. I would love to help support each other. I'm new to this site, just signed up tonight. Is there a way to "friend" each other so we can keep in contact and motivate each other?
I also have 2 kids - my daughter turns 3 in November and my son will be 8 months next week. So I totally know where you are coming from! Well, look me up, message me - whatever! I'd love to help out and have help.

RE: p90x and first 5k
p90x thyroid type 2 diabetes high cholesterol thyroid problems
9/30/11 1:37 PM as a reply to Danni8504.
So in the oast 2 months I have trained for a 5k, drank shakeology everyday, have done started and stopped p90x a couple of times. However, I am very proud of myself, I am competeing in my first 5k tomorrow (october 1st), I have lost 10 pounds in these last 2 months which puts me at 14.5 pounds under my pre-pregnancy weight in only 3 months (remember this is 6 weeks of doing nothing because we aren't allowed).

I cannot wait for this is a new chapter in my life, I have a handsome 3 year old boy and a beautiful 3 month old little girl, but now this chapter is about me, getting healthy and fit so my kids have something to grow up knowing and will hopefully follow. Seeing it everyday from when they were little to when they grow up and go away to school, I want them to know that this is important! Being healthy and excercising regularly! I have type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol, and at risk of having thyroid problems, I don't want that for them, that is why I did this, not only for me and my health but also my childrens health. I know that if this is what they know they will do it..yes it still migt be hard but they will have it instilled in their heads.

I have struggled all my life with my weight, I was always heavier...maybe more in my mind then I really was but I always had issues with it. I know I can't take that away from them but if I give them every oppurtunity there is out there to better themselves maybe they won't have the insecurities that I do!

WHat better way then beachbody? I hope they follow me in my path, and join the beachbody community, But I also do want them to go to college and get tehir education, if they decide to not do anything with it because they have succeeded as coach I will be a very proud mother.

I can't wait to update you all on my success with my 5k tomorrow, I am shooting for under 51 minutes and 58 seconds, that was my time my last time I ran the full 5k in training...so here goes nothing...

BRING IT!!!

Congratulation for beating your PR:-) I can imagine your most exciting moment. I have been running since high school. I ran 5K, 10K, 10 miler, half marathon and 3 full marathons. I had knee problem for the past few years, but I kept running no matter what. I had been doing P90X for a little over 130 days and I have a week and a half left until the end of the 2nd round. Guess what? My knee pain was gone completely about few weeks ago. P90X really helped me getting stronger physically and mentally. I'm sure your knee will heal overtime as you continue to push play. :-) Keep bringing it!!!
