P90X Plyometrics Alternative?
Hi Guys,

Does anyone recommend an alternative for the plyometrics workout on P90X? My knees just can't handle all the jumping (from an injury point of view that is) but I love and can do the rest of the P90x workout fine? I'm thinking of running or cycling as an alternative? Anyone got any ideas on what they think would be best? I know it's not ideal but I feel if I carry on with plyometrics my knees going to give.

Many thanks,

Tiptoe

Thanks Guys, that's really useful advice.

Not sure what kind of injury you have. I have knee trouble as well. Running actually makes my knees worse. First I will say stay within what you feel comfortable with. Make sure you are warming up really well. I feel a little pain sometimes when I start an insanity workout. I just limit the height of the jump until I warm up and then I don't experience pain. Make sure you are landing softly, absorb the impact. If there are particular exercises that hurt more than others, just repeat a workout of similar exertion. (Some exercises are meant to increase heart rate while others bring it back down). I am sure someone else can give more specific advice. Just concentrate on form and jumping safely.
Good Luck,
Dave

I've been doing p90x for almost a year and never do plyometrics. I do the lien routine workouts and plyometics is not part of that program. I like the lien workouts because it's more cardio based but less intense.

tip: I agree. I always share this video for insight, knees are gold and should never be put to risk. Video works best with Firefox. You can also see it on the watch videos tab, then Exercise tips.

johnpill: Instresting and would like to know more. The thing is Tony does not believe in cardio from what I've read, he says we would have to run longer distances every time, to improve, making it not practical. Interval training is another story. But I am a true believe that we need to search for what works for us.

When I injured my knee, I used an elliptical machine to workout, until my knee was healthy enough to engage in my normal workout routine.

Why not just do the modifications that Pam the Blam does? It turns Plyo into a good cardio workout but much less impact. I have a bad knee and there are certain things in P90X I have to modify. Plyo is one, I also have to be careful on my kicks with that leg in Kenpo, and I can't do lunges with my leg up on a chair behind me because it puts too much strain on my knee. I just modify what I need to and keep going.

Tony doesn't like cardio? That's news to me. He also says to adjust workouts to fit your situation. Anyway....with all the other workouts on P90X I think skipping one because of bad knees makes sense. Again, Plyometrics is not included in the lien program so it works for me.

Tiptoe,

in the Lean program, plyo is substituted by cardioX, try that video instead.
