Weight Gain While Drinking Shakeology?

I have a customer who only tried Shakeology a week and she said she was gaining weight with it. She wasn't working out. I asked her if she was tracking her calories and she was not. So I'm thinking she was eating the same and just adding the Shakeology calories to her diet as well. I tried to get more info out of her, but my guess is that she just didn't really like it and didn't want to tell me? She cancelled it anyway.

So my question would be, has anyone else ever experienced weight gain while drinking Shakeology? And why would it happen?

Thanks in advance!
Tina

I agree with your assessment personally, if she wasn't working out, wasn't tracking her calories and wasn't willing to discuss it further to figure out the problem, I would say that she was blaming the Shakeology instead of blaming what was really responsible - herself. I haven't heard of weight gain from any of my customers, all good things from them! Sorry about this! emoticon

I have not heard of weight gain, however, I I have a friend that had gotten really distended and retained water. I had her do the three day cleanse and use Water, or almond milk for cal sake. and by the end of the cleanse she was "regular".

If they canceled it was not your fault or the product!

I have a customer who gained weight on shakeo. She lost it as soon as she stopped drinking it. The same thing happened when she tried manna shakes. I'm perplexed, as she was doing everything right, from what she was mixing in it, to working out, to eating the right things for the other meals. I would love to hear anyone's theories as to why.

I am on day 2 of the Shakeology Cleanse. I followed the instructions to the letter on Day 1, and did 3 miles on the elliptical, but when I weighed this morning, I had gained half a pound! I went ahead and proceeded with Day 2 today. I did not have the fruit, but cutting that has left me without the energy to work out. If the scale isn't going in the opposite direction when I weigh in the morning, I may not have the motivation to go through with Day 3...I am hopeful.

I've been using shakeology for 2 weeks now, doing the insanity workout, and running 2 miles a day 5 times a week, eating only lean protein, fruits and vegetables. I have gained 3 pounds. I am ready to take a hammer to my scale. So frustrating. I don't know what more I can do.

Don't lose hope. Stick to your workouts an the results will come. You could be retaining water. Shaun T said in one of his interviews that some of his test people didn't drop weight until week 6. Also, instead of weighing in so often try taking your measurements instead. You could build muscle which makes the scale go up. But muscle burns body fat so your inches could be going down.

Here is what you're missing...weight gain happens when you work out. Muscle is built during any exercise, be it aerobic or anaerobic. Muscle also weighs more than fat tissue per square inch, so it is normal to gain weight before losing or even while losing.

Muscle weighs more than fat, did you take your measurements? Do you drink shako with water or milk? I feel like you body has to adjust to all the good stuff before it actually starts working! That's where the 30 day bottom of the bag guarantee came from.

actually; muscle doesn't weight more then fat. A pound is a pound is a pound. Muscle is more DENSE then fat which means that it takes up less volume then an equal mass of fat. That is why you see some body builders do before pics at a certain weight and then after pics and they are the same weight but visibly more cut with less body fat.

People love to use the excuse that they are gaining muscle and therefore weight. It's simply not true.

What you need to do is look at your body fat percentage rather then the scale and, as someone else pointed out, ditch the scale and do measurements.

That said: I did the 3 day cleanse and saw a slight drop in weight without exercise. I plan on doing the 3 day cleanse again before I start T25

Likely it was bloating due to an allergic reaction or change to diet. If they are lactose intolerant they may be limited to a certain flavor that doesn't have lactose in it. Either way, any diet change is going to mess up your system for at least a month until your body adjusts.

Muscle does weigh more than fat. You said it yourself. It is more dense. If you take a square inch of fat and a square inch of muscle, the muscle will weigh more. Nobody is saying a lb of muscle is more than a lb of fat, simply that there could be changes in your body like losing fat tissue and gaining muscle and that the scale could go the opposite direction. I have gained 4 lbs since starting Insanity and Shakeology but I have lost 3.5 inches and I am way stronger than I was beforehand.

When you add more calories and don't burn more calories you will gain weight. Granted, 130 calories a day more for a week isn't likely to have much impact on the scale in just one week.

The most she could possibly be gaining as a result of Shakeology is a quarter of a pound.

Most likely cause of gain is eating more (in addition to the Shakeology) or reduction in activity level.

The same thing happened to me and i just stopped taking it. I did however notice that my body looked leaner but the weight gain made me nervous so i stopped taking it. Prior to shakeology, I would make my own green smoothie and workout 5-6 days a week and was averaging a 2-3 lb weightloss a week. I even tried to take half of the shakeology packets and still gained weight. The crazy part is I felt amazing after drinking shakeology so maybe everything isnt for everybody.

I have gained a pound a day and and up 12 pounds. I have been doing more exercise than I was before I started and am making much healthier food choices than I was. So I am freaking out also.

We have a COMPLETELY flawed view of weight. It is NOT the tool to use to see if you're making progress. Forget weight and become an athlete. Stop believing the lie that once you hit a number on the scale, you'll look the way you want. When you're made of heavy muscle and burns off the light, fluffy fat, you'll like what you see. If you're carrying a LOT of extra body fat, then yes, you may lose weight. But you have to build a lean muscular body in order to BURN that fat. THROW YOUR SCALES AWAY, EAT CLEAN, & GET MEAN!!!

I can tell you, coming from someone who has struggled with weight my whole life, there are some things that don't work for everyone. And I believe as a "coach" of anything your job is to motivate and help others with their personal success. I also know from my own experience, when it comes to weight loss, it is very personal. When people are struggling they tend to shut down, which could be why "she didn't want to discuss it further". I know this because I am there right now. I have been drinking Shakeology for about 3 weeks now, and I have gained 6 lbs....frustration can't even begin to express how I feel. I work out, T25, every day, I do track my calories and I take my measurements. The difference between her and I is that I refuse to give up and I know that my coach will help me tweak this. One of the things that I really dislike about fitness or weight loss programs, is we assume that how the program is presented, is how it will work for everyone, this just isn't so. I don't mind working hard for my success, so before we start throwing around the "blame game", maybe we can dig a little deeper and realize the shoe doesn't always fit the same way on another's foot.

I started Shake-O last week and within a couple of days gained 5 lbs. I can feel the retention in my midsection but not having any BM issues. Its like i ate a super absorbent or something emoticon

I am going to stick with it and see if my body adjusts. I am pretty sure it is just water weight and I will be able to drop it quickly if it doesn't fix itself soon.

Anyone else have this issue lately? I have seen some older posts on the subject.

I wrote to Beachbody with some questions, both to my "Coach" and to the main board, but no reply from either.

This exact same thing happened to me. I started march 3,2014 and for the past week and half I've gained 6 lbs. I've been replacing one meal with shakeology adding half water and half almond milk. I've been eating cleaner and doing T25 every day. I'm really discouraged and don't want to continue. My mid section looks huge and bloated. I'm so upset. I'm wondering if it's too much protein in it for me.
