Daily Accountability
10/25/11 3:27 AM
Hi all you workout addicts and noobies.

After joining a good-sized group of folks back in April when I started my first round of P90x, the number of active contributors in the group dropped quickly and all but 3 of us dropped off the boards, and I assume, out of P90X entirely.

What I noticed was that of the 20-something people in the original group, only the 3 of us that posted daily updates and held themselves accountable daily to the rest of the group finished round 1 of P90x. One of them is now in round 2, the other has completed Asylum and is now doing a P90X/Asylum hybrid, and I have completed Insanity and will complete Asylum next week. All three of us will start P90X2 at the beginning of the year.

There must be something to this whole daily accountability thing, right?

Well, if posting your progress daily is something that will help you get through the programs, then this is the place for you. It doesn't matter what program you are doing or how long you have been working out. We will happily harass you when you are slacking and give you props when you are destroying your workouts.

I hope some of you decide to join into the discussion. Be sure to bookmark the thread so it's easy to find again in the future.

Now for my daily update:

Day 24 of Asylum - Strength.

Man, I was feeling awesome today and fully brought it. Still got a twinge of pain in the left shoulder every once in a while from a muscle strain last week. It's about back to normal again.

5 more Asylum workouts left, then the Assessment. Since I didn't do the Assessment at the beginning of the program, it's kind of a waste of time doing the ending one with no numbers to compare it to. Instead, I'm gonna close out this round of Asylum with a Game Day + OT workout.

Thanks for starting this new thread Martin.

I have been on the other thread with Martin since I began my P90X journey in April 2011. I finished a round of P90X classic, then did the Asylum, and now I am just finishing up on P90X bulk (with one day of Asylum built in each week). When I started out I was weighing in around 170, and after P90X classic and the Asylum I got down to 146. I have always been a smaller guy, but was becoming what I believe they call "skinny fat". I was down to 8.7% body fat before I began my bulk and now I am up to 10% body fat and weighing in at 155. I will go on a maintenance phase until January, when I'm sure most people will be beginning P90X 2.

Today was Vertical Plyo and Ab Ripper X for me. I can't say I really got after it as much as I normally do during Vertical Plyo, but it still kicked my butt. For those joining this thread, I am still getting over a cold from last week, so I've been at about 85% for a week now. Ab Ripper X was good, as always, and I continued to do 30 of each move instead of the 25.

Hope to see a lot of new people on this thread. I agree with Martin, you are much more accoutable when you are posting daily, and we are proof that it helps to keep you going every day. And if you stop posting.....we will try to get you going again.

Hi Bob and Martin and anyone else who joins this thread! I guess I'm the third person who was on the original board. I could also be called the slacker, or would be if it weren't for Bob and Martin keeping me honest. I wouldn't say I'm on any particular plan right now, I'm just working out on a regular basis and mix in P90X along with jogging.

Today I did Cardio X in place of plyometrics. My knees just can't handle the bouncing around in Plyo and I don't want to take any chances since I still need to do that 5K in about 1 month. I was right about the treadmill in the fitness center at this hotel. It's not on level ground at all. As short as it is, its back feet are about 1/2" lower than the front feet so I am running uphill the entire time. I managed to jog about 1.5 miles on that treadmill today. Not quite the 2+ I had gotten used to on correctly set up treadmills. I guess what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. So yes, in conclusion I jogged 1.5 miles and then did Cardio X right after. Let's just say I've never felt more wiped than when I did as Steam Engine came up. emoticon

Bob - I guess they are looking at sending me to St. Louis the second week of November, so I'll be there sooner rather than later.

I have to admit that it is nice seeing all the calories listed on every menu in CA. Although it can be very depressing to see that 10 buffalo wings is almost 2,000 calories, it's nice to see that if you get the 7oz steak with veggies and a salad you are only at 1,200 calories and a lot more satisfied with the meal.

Keep pushing play,
Steve

Asylum - Day 25 - Game Day + Overtime

Yup, that still hurts, and OT is still insane. Still not able to get all the way through the swimming segment without dropping arms, and the mountain climber segment is brutal.

One day.

Already have the calendar set for a P90X/Asylum Hybrid when I get done here. It's a shame they don't have a pre-made Insanity/P90X hybrid calendar that's 2 months long and heavy on the Insanity side of things.

Yeah, that workout never seemed to get any easier. I think Overtime was just meant to make you feel weak and insuperior to Shaun T........and it works.

Today was Shoulders and Arms for me today. This was my last arm workout on the bulk, and I can tell that at least my weights are going up. I have been able to increase my curls by 10 lbs from when I started. Pretty pumped about that.

Good morning. I jogged another 1.5 miles on the crooked treadmill this morning. Was more comfortable today so I'll probably increase distance tomorrow morning. I also did Shoulders and Arms with Ab Ripper X this morning. Holy cow, I'm wiped out!! But all this soreness does feel good. I really do wish I had thought to bring some protein powder or something though. Oh well, live and learn. Tomorrow I will do my jog and probably the Stretch X routine since I won't have time to do the Yoga X and run. I won't be jogging the day I do the Legs and Back routine either so I don't want to skip jogging tomorrow.

On a side note - I'm not able to subscribe to this thread, does anyone else have that ability and if not then why isn't it working?

Awesome man. It seems to take forever for my weights to increase.

It never works for me. The subscribe always takes me to page 1, then I have to click to the end. I just bookmark whatever page we are on and skip the 2nd step.

Asylum Day 26 - Vertical Plyo

I stand by my belief that it takes a sick person to schedule plyo the day after Game Day/OT.
I struggled...badly. I can only assume that it was a combination of yesterday's workout, and the ~10 miles I had to walk through the woods today at work.

I'm considering trying a month of RevAbs after Asylum instead of the P90X/Asylum hybrid. RevAbs is a 90 day program with the deluxe package, but I only have the 60 day package. The paperwork says if you are fit you can skip month 1 and go straight into the harder month 2.

I will have to look at the RevAbs workouts closer. The only reason I'm considering that is because I think my shoulder needs a break from weights or it might leave me on the sidelines come P90x2 time. That would really suck.

That might be a good idea. I wouldn't want you bowing out halfway through the deuce emoticon.

Today was Stretch X and Ab Ripper X for me. Nothing really to report on that.

I ordered some Muscle Pharm products and they got delivered yesterday. I will give an update how they work once I crack them open.

Good morning. So I woke up this morning with my sinuses completely blocked, sore throat and a headache. I'm not going to say the word because then it will make it true. I went to the fitness center this morning and they got the treadmill on level ground working...for about 2 minutes, then it tripped the breaker and doesn't work again. I got onto the other treadmill and started jogging, but my breathing wouldn't let me do my regular run so I guess I did intervals. I walked at a decent pace for 3 minutes and then ran as fast as the treadmill would go (a pathetic 6.7 mph) for 2 minutes. I somehow managed to do 2.46 miles in 30 minutes with this routine. Then I did Stretch X instead of Yoga because I just don't have time to get the Yoga in before I have to leave for work and all I really cared about was the stretching part of it anyway.

Tomorrow I will be leaving the hotel at 6AM and will be on planes or in airports till 8PM. In other words, it doesn't look like I'll be doing any workout tomorrow.

Keep pushing play,
Steve

I just watched a few of the RevAbs videos. There's no way I'd have the patience for that. It'd be like working out with James Brown. The guy keeps saying "oh yea", "uh", "do it", "uh huh" and laying a peace sign tap on his chest. I kept waiting for him to say "hit me, good god!" And then there's the breathing directly into the mic thing.

I guess I was supposed to feel the energy and the love, but all I felt was annoyance.

I'll stick to Shaun and Tony, thanks.

Asylum Day 27 - Back to Core

I'm starting to enjoy this workout, even though I suspect it's the main culprit in my tweaked left trap muscle.

Tomorrow is a relief day and I'm looking forward to it.

Getting close to shutting down another BB program. emoticon I'm really curious to see the changes in the side-by-side pics.

Insanity - Max Cardio Intervals

Wait, wha? emoticon

I don't know what it was with today, but I just couldn't manage to focus or sit still. Way too fidgety. So I thought to myself "self, what will knock the fidget right out of you?"

Well, the answer was the hardest Insanity workout. Surprisingly, I kicked the crap out of it. My conditioning has obviously improved since the last time I did that workout thanks to Asylum.

I am now fidget-free, hungry, tired and REALLY looking forward to tomorrow's relief workout.

You are a maniac!!! Two killer workouts in one day. I have to admit, I'm a little jealous emoticon. You have to be ready for some Relief today.

Today was Legs and Back for me. Last real workout of the bulk phase. I have Yoga tomorrow and then recovery week next week. I think I'm going to dabble around with some of my P90X one on one's/P90x/Asylum for the next two months before the deuce arrives. I'm looking forward to some of the one on one's. From what I've read, I'm in for some serious muscle confusion.

Day 28 Asylum - Relief

Best relief ever. It hurt to get out of bed this morning after the double whammy I issued myself yesterday.
