hi folks. little discouraged here... i am so out of shape, i could only do the first 30 minutes of yoga. my shoulders and arms are burning, i am currently unable to get to runners pose due to belly "roadblock". what to do what to do? my entire upper body muscles are on fire. how to either A) modify or emoticon do what i can and do a little more on my next scheduled yoga day?

I think many of us have felt discouraged with yoga at times because it really is a hard workout! I know for me it's a challenge because I'm not that flexible but I just do my best each time and I'm seeing improvement. So I would say just do as much as you can each time and you should see improvement over time. I know a ton of people can't complete the whole thing their first time so don't feel bad!

Don't be too hard on yourself. When I started out, I could barely get into runner's pose and was completely gassed by the end of the moving Asanah's. As long as you keep "bringing it", you will see improvement. I Absolutely HATED Yoga when I first started. I've recently completed my first round of P90x and am on day 24 of P90x plus, I now look forward to Yoga and consider it my favorite work out day. I believe that as you gain in proficiency through the Yoga, you will see eqal (or better) gains in the rest of your routine; Stick With IT!!!

The burn is a good thing; it means those muscles need improving...and they will! Just remember to work within your limits to avoid injury. Form is critical, but if your body won't let you do something, just go as far as you can. I take yoga classes and one thing the instructor has repeatedly impressed upon us is that if it hurts, don't do it. Bend only as far as you can, don't go as deep into warrior poses (yet), etc. Listen to your body.

You want your muscles to get used to the idea, get stronger day by day, lose weight as you go, and then guess what...you'll get a bigger bang for your buck. Your newly stronger muscles, will be able to support your decreasing weight, and you'll be able to ease into positions you can't currently do. It's all good. Go easy on yourself, but always challenge yourself. If you've found a "comfort zone", it probably means you need to work harder. emoticon

If you stick with the schedule, eat right, you WILL get better. You CAN do it.

No No No...Don't be discouragedemoticon Tony's motto "do your best and forget the rest" is so true. I just got done with Yoga so this comment caught my attention. I used to hate yoga. Now I love it.

Look when I first started, I looked at some of those poses and thought "no way". I would wait them out. I'd do some modifications. I could never do "chataranga". I always had to flop down on my belly, then come up to "upward dog". But every single week, I noticed improvement-no exaggeration. Now? I rule that mat! I am so much stronger, and so much more flexible. Watch Tony's video on the importance of yoga too.

Stick with it friend. Even if you can't do it well yet, you are still stretching your muscles and challenging them. Start slow, and modify so you're not completely spent within the first 30 minutes.

I didn't finish it the first time through either! Another option is to go with X Stretch first. It's shorter and less intense. In time you can work up to Yoga X. Good luck! Stick with it and track your results!

Im sleeping better and not as long but most importantly, i no longer have to lay on the bed to button my pants and im not as uncomfortable as i was last week. that was my motivation was to lose the beer gut. actually seeing it helps alot too. just was a little upset with myself on the yoga.
