Adding Protein to Shakeology
11/30/11 7:14 PM
I was wondering if it's okay to add some protein powder to my shakeology? I love it as is, but I need to take in more protein. Will it take away from the benefits of shakeology by mixing it with protein powder?

Thanks,

Andre

Shakeology has a reasonable amount of protein already, but it won't hurt to add a little more.

Andre,

No it won't take away from the benefits of Shakeology. Shakeology has 18g of protein in it, adding a scoop of whey protein will give it 38g of protein, depending on the brand of protein you are mixing it with.

Good luck in your program.

Agree with both above. How often are you taking protein powder and what are your other sources of protein. It is always best to spread out you nutrients throughout the day to ensure the best absorbtion. Also, make sure you are eating whole food protein as well like fish, beef and eggs.

Take care and good luck.

It won't hurt the benefits of Shakeology at all. I often add a couple tablespoons of peanut or almond butter to chocolate shakeology. It cuts the sweetness a little and adds about 20 grams of protein.

I add protein to mine and it's just fine...
I beef mine up to about 500 calories as a breakfast shake

1 scoop of chocolate shakeology
1 scoop of whey protein
1.5 cups of skim milk
1 tbsp of almond butter
1/2 cup of cold water

It's great emoticon

I agree with adding protein.

I do not eat alot of meats or fish so I add protein powder and peanut butter to my daily breakfast Shakeology.

Oops, just checked my peanut butter label again. It's nine grams of protein per TWO tablespoons. I thought it was per tablespoon. So the way I use it adds 9 grams not 20.

Thanks for the fact check!

I'm not a big fan of PB2, personally. I think they remove a lot of the goodness in the name of "low fat" but then add in a bunch of junk. Otherwise, I often do pretty much the same thing you do but with unsalted raw almond butter instead of peanut butter. And almond milk instead of dairy.
