P90X without Shakeology?
1/10/12 1:52 PM
Hi there!

I'm just wondering if it is still possible to achieve weight loss and good results while doing P90X without drinking Shakeology. Unfortunately, I am a broke college student and can't afford to purchase it monthly, but I don't want that to be the one thing holding me back from gaining good results.

thank you!!

Shakeology is not required to achieve success. People have been losing weight and getting in shape for thousands of years before Shakeology was invented. I did Power 90, P90X and Insanity and lost over 70 pounds and 30% body fat without taking Shakeology or any other supplements. Weight loss is all about eating less than you burn, so just figure your caloric needs, eat in the right ratios and you will be fine. Beachbody is a good company but I find the constant pushing of Shakeology and other supplements a bit aggravating. It is understandable as they are primarily a supplement company and make most of their money off the supplements, but none of them are an integral part of a healthy weight loss regime. In fact I would go so far as to say in some ways they are counter productive because by eating meal substitutes you are not learning how to eat in a healthy sustainable way (unless you plan on buying Shakeology for the rest of your life).

I am in the same boat. I am doing Power 90 and I can't afford Shakeology either. I have tried a sample and it was really good but I just don't have the $ to do it every month. Instead I have been trying to make better choices in what I eat.

You don't have to use Shakeology to get good results and I agree that it is in a way a hindrance to learning how to eat healthily. You don't have to think about it and lose tools when you have meal replacement shakes to rely on. However...

There is one thing that Shakeology, especially chocolate, is really very helpful for (at least it was for me) and that is this: it is great as an alternative to ice cream/cake/candy/whatever sweet tooth craving you might have and when you are in a situation where junk food is right in your face, Shakeology is chocolatey enough to satisfy that craving and not have you feeling deprived. There are a lot of times, for me personally, where I just don't have the willpower.

But that doesn't mean that I couldn't have lost the weight that i did without it. I very well could have. I just think it wouldn't have been as easy for me because I LOVE chocolate and my husband loves chocolate and always has it around. I personally needed something in my arsenal to help me not eat it with him and Shakeology fit that need for me.

Ditto. No supplements for me. It doesn't figure into my budget or my plan for long-term change. We'll see how it goes!

Thank you guys! I have been eating much healthier and definitely watching my calories so it's good to know that I'm capable of doing without emoticon I agree with one of the other posters that said that they felt that the products were being pushed on you, and I think thats why I had to ask if it was possible without! After 2 failed attempts at P90X, I'm really hoping that this time I can really stick with it. I'm feeling much more motivated then I was in the past so I think I can do it!!

3rd time is a charm! You can get through it! Tell yourself this time that less than 90 days is not an option! I have 2 days left and I'll be finished with the first 2 weeks. It's hurting but I keep pushing & pushing. Like Tony says, "DO YOUR BEST AND FORGET THE REST". Shakeology is super expensive. I can't believe it but I bought it and actually had my first shake today. The only reason is because all the people I've talked to hate the price but swear by the product. If you start having trouble this time during P90, consider ordering it. I know some ladies that have done Shakeology before they even started P90 and they were glad they did because of the increase in energy level and overall health. Just don't forget, BRING IT!

I did P90X without shakeology. I used myfitnesspal to track my food and after awhile it became second nature. I did this almos 2 years ago and kept the weight off. I started another round on Jan 1st and at this point Im contemplating buing shakelogy. Yes, it is pricey but when you think of it in terms of replacing one of your meals, then it isn't too bad. It also is not bad at all if I compare it to the daily price of my starbucks addition!!
I want it because I would like to use it as a dinner option once in awhile after I am done working out. Ingredients are really good so why not do it. I had a sample and used the entire packet. It was way too much! One packet made 24 oz which is a bit too much for me. I can see the 30 day supply being more like 60 for me because I am planning on cutting the scoop in half when I get it.
Oh, I forgot to mention that I went from 155 to 127, size 8/10 to size 0/2

Are you at least following your Meal Planner? I know for me, I never realized how many calories I was eating a day. I started using an Iphone app to calculate my calories. Oh, Holy! I was literally eating 2000+ calories a day., so easy! So if Shakeology is not in your budget, follow the Meal Planner. Such a helpful tool.

As far as P90x, my buddies are always having fitness groups for accountability and support, people have massive success! I've completed P90x, and Insanity. I'm almost done with my Hubrid, then off the P90x2 (scared) LOL. Buddy me so we can follow up on each other!

That's a good App. We use Loseit for the Iphone, also great! Keeps me on point and I never forget to log in my BB meals and anything I eat. The fact that I can scan barcodes now, awesome! I love connecting with people that are focused about their health and fitness! Keep rocking ladies!!

I just finished my first 3 weeks so now I'm starting my rest week! I'm feeling great and am still motivated, so that is a good sign! I'm nervous though because for this past month I've been on break from school so I've had plenty of time to do my work outs. But now that my semester resumes on Thursday, I'm hoping that I am still able to stick to phase 2 and 3 with the daily stress of school. I just need to make sure that I don't make any excuses and make time to work out!

I agree.90% of becoming fit is nutrition.I am not a big believer of buying supplements. They are only needed for certain cases.Sports specific training people who have natural defeciences of certain vitamins or minerals, etc.Shakeology is a interesting concept however im sure for less $$$ you can make your own shakes with a little time and research into how.
