Greek yogurt?
Greek yogurt?

Greek yogurt, especially the fat free version, is a great source of protein with no fat and little carbs (plain is very low carb but not as tastey)

My question is can I count it as a protein in my P90x diet instead of as a dairy. It's almost all protein and no fat so why not?

Thanks.

if you make protein shakes/smoothies try mixing it into those :] i HATE greek yogurt but i know it has so many health benefits so i mix 1/4 cup into each of my protein shakes and i can't taste it at all!

I love greek yogurt! Just had it for dinner since I don't care much for meat. I use plain and add granola and a little honey. So good!

Kim, you might as well eat the fruit version of the fat free yogurt because you're adding a bunch of carbs with the granola and honey. It might even taste better and be less carbs than your version.

The Chobani yogurt that is Vanilla flavored is good plain, and not much added due to the vanilla flavor. Only brand I found I can stand plain. Otherwise I would also suggest mixing it with a smoothie.

Can't answer the Dairy/protein question. I would think it is still considered dairy. It would still contain lactose (sugar).

With only 16 carbs in my granola I think I'm okay. I eat the greek yogurt because it's high in protein since I don't eat much meat. I don't eat yogurt...at all. I've left the majority of dairy out of my diet. I workout often and run in the mornings usually so the carbs aren't hurting me.

I like to mix a half to a whole scoop of vanilla protein powder into 3/4 cup of plain non-fat greek yogurt (as well as a little cinnamon). Adds just enough sweetness as well as a little extra protein to boot. Delish!
