Shakeology, Celiac Disease, and Gluten-Free Diets
celiac disease gluten free
2/3/12 9:03 AM
Just looking for some direct answers from a Celiac who is considering converting to Shakeology. Now, I've Googled my Brazil Butt Lift off trying to find out the REAL answer - and I've found nothing but "it's been tested and is gluten free!," but i'd love to know from YOUR experience -

Has anyone with hardcore Celiac disease had a reaction to Shakeology?

PS. What about this manufacturing allergy notation on the nutrition? Although the product doesn't have gluten ingredients, how is their manufacturing process? Has Beachbody considered getting a GF seal on their products? It would sure make someone like me feel better!

Anyone who has struggled with this diet (as well as life-long autoimmune condition) knows what a pain it is to find something that we can all stomach. I'd love to know your experiences!

My girlfriend has celiac and uses greenberry shakeology on a daily basis without any issues, nothing so far at least - and it's been well over 3 months.

The allergy information on the label states that it's made in a facility that handles wheat/gluten ingredients, but the label also states that the product is gluten free, I dont know what the manufacturing process is, but if the label claims it's gluten free, I'm assuming there is zero contamination during the mixing process.

Also, tropical strawberry is being released very soon, and the protein coming from spouted brown rice rather then whey should make it easier to digest for anyone with digestive problems.

Chocolate
Greenberry

I do and I completely know what you're talking about. Nothing is so miserable. I also have IBD and GERD. Joy.

I've used both chocolate and greenberry without any issues. I have another friend with Celiac who is about to start using it, so I'll keep ya updated on how she does with it, as well. emoticon

The new tropical is on its way to me as I type and is gluten free - not sure about the seal. I'll let you know when I get it.

they add wheat grass but it's gluten free. They also add lipase which may help it be more acceptable to those with Celiac disease. Decent chance you won't have any issues but you could always start slow and monitor it.

hope this isn't a dup post. first one didn't seem to show up.

the change is a good thing for people with some problems but not sure I'd go as far as saying anyone with digestive problems. There are a good number of ingredients that have potential negative side affects around digestive issues. For most people the product will provide a lot of benefits and they won't have any issues with it, but there will always be some that react negatively to it.

The great thing about shakeology is that it's jam packed with tons of great stuff. The down side is that the same great stuff can interact with certain things negatively for a small number of people.

I have celiace disease and after one week on it started having issues. I am curoius to see if anyone else does as well. It states that it is gluten free but it is not continually tested. I suspect there may some cross contamination issues with the grasses. It's a she because I loved the taste and was hoping for a gluten free product of this type. I would be curious to have it be tested by the r5 Elisa test, one of the gold standard for cd.

Hi Y'all,

Been a celiac for several years, had my fair share of gluten shocks...

Personally speaking any supplement that states its Gluten Free and is made in the same place that handles wheat/gluten IS NOT GLUTEN FREE.

It is a very dangerous assumption to make, not all celiac sufferers have the same tolerance level.

I am very nervous about trying this. I only see the words "gluten free" on one flavor. Where is it listed on the chocolate, chocolate vegan, tropical strawberry and the smooth orange after workout drink. The cross contamination issues are definitely an issue being in a shared plant. Any othe recent shares on this? I am too nervous to try it and am thinking of giving my samples away to a friend unless I get more concrete information

Thanks. Jayne

celiac disease greenberry gluten free diets

Hi,

I started Shakeology 10 days ago. I use the greenberry as it stated GF on the package. I react to gluten in lipstick (I'm a lip biter...cant stop.)and have been hospitalized for contamination issues at restaurants. I know how I react.
So far, I'm not reacting to the Shakeology. I'm going to trust the company's due diligence on this one. I love the energy I have on this. If there was gluten, I would be having brain fog, no energy, stomach issues....but nothing. I really feel better than I have in awhile.

Good luck.

Leslie

I tried to chocolate one today and am hard core celiac. I can't even eat products made in a facility. My tummy is kind of hurting, and bloated, with brain fog. ugh... but it could be from something else. I just recommend to avoid the chocolate. Could have a Malt derivative, or cross contamination.

Hi, I have Celiac, and I am unfortunately very sensitive to gluten. I have been trying Chocolate for a few weeks. I'm pretty convinced that I cannot tolerate it. I like it a lot, and I have tried to attribute my reaction to other things, like stress or a stomach bug. I took two days off, felt 100% better, and tried it again today. It is definitely not working. I ordered the Green-berry since it is supposed to be GF. I hope that works. I would definitely avoid the chocolate if you are sensitive. Good luck!

I have used the vegan strawberry, and had no reaction, but I recently tried the vegan chocolate, and I have been very ill since then. I've been hospitalized twice because of Celiac, and I am very sensitive to any gluten. The packaging says that it is manufactured in a facility that also uses wheat, so I am leery of any of the Shakeology. It can not be labeled GF if it is manufactured in a plant that also uses wheat in other products.

I have celiac and also tried the chocolate and after a few days was ill, ill , ill! I would not recommend to anyone with celiac. It contains gluten grasses(barley, kamut etc)! Although it is claimed that they harvest before it is sprouted there is no continuing testing to ensure this does occur and there is no CC. Personally, I wish they would come up with a truly gf formula without any gluten grasses.

Hello Gluten sensitive here and my wife is very hard core Celiacs, sadly she ended up having a hysterectomy because they thought it was female issues only to find out later that it was celiacs so we truly understand all of your concerns.

Does anyone know of any BeachBody coaches that are Celiacs and would help work with diets etc? We want to start on our Journey together but need help from someone that really understands her issues. Thank you for any help!
