Man breasts
2/8/12 4:11 PM
I feel terrible asking the question, but will they ever go away. I've dropped nearly 70lbs from, 297 to 230 doing Power 90. I started P90X last week to hopefully drop another 30. I feel good and can see alot of changes in my body except for one thing, and frankly it stinks. I still feel the need to wear my old baggy shirts to help hide them. I could easily go down a shirt size but it just looks terrible. Will they go away as I keep doing P90x or is something I'm going to have to seek medical treatment to get rid of? Is there a special chest exercise that will help? Thanks for any help.

Moobs?!? I have the same fear.. By watching Biggest Loser they drop all kinds of weight, but some of the guys end up with deflated moobs.

A lot of it comes from how long or how fast the weight gain was.. some comes from just a lack of elasticity in skin cells, thanks DNA!

You could try more weight with the chest exercises to try and puff out those pecks!

Besides topical creams it may just end up being a surgical fix

None of this is informed by any means, just a fat guys opinion!

Good luck!

Unfortunately, a lot of it has to do with genes for which there isn't a wonder drug to correct. However, p90x has a lot of perfect exercises and resistance moves to help bulk up your chest which should even out the moobs. Without seeing you, I can't say for sure, but a typical problem is that the skin is till puffy underneath and loose. So to combat that, work the upper chest through decline pushups (and all the push ups for that matter) similarly, you should put some focus on your shoulders and late which will also serve to lift the skin.

Past that it's all about reducing your body fat percentage. What is it today?

Good luck my friend!

I have man boobs since I was a teenager (check out the photos in my profile).

I've research this topic for many years and it is one of the reason why I started doing P90X.

If you have a real case of gynecomastia, like I do, there's NO workout that can eliminate the puffiness of the man breasts. The puffiness is caused by mammary gland tissues and not entirely by fat. You might lose some size by working out hard but it won't completely go away.

Now, if you didn't have gynecomastia when you were a kid and you just started noticing after you've gained weight or became obese then good news for you. Those are results of real fat which can be eliminated by working out.

Some folks got the moobs from doing steroids. I hope you aren't using that.

Regardless, I've seen great results from doing P90X. Let's get our body to good health before worrying about the cosmetic aspect of it.

Hope this helps emoticon

I'm pretty sure I've got gynecomastia, although I guess not as extreme as some of the guys I see in pics when I google it. I'm guessing if it is genetic moobs, they start showing around puberty. I remember first noticing them when I was 15 or 16yrs old. This is when I was first started putting on weight too, but not super excessive (I think when I was 16 I was 6'0" ~180lbs), and they havent gone away since. Even when I went down to 160, they were still there (although it was unhealthy weight loss, basically starving myself). I guess p90x will answer the question for me.

FearlessLeeFit, did you have anything done to reduce them or our results pic just from p90x? They're not noticeable in your profile pic. I would be happy with that, hopefully if I bulk up my upper chest and lower my body fat% they're be pretty much unnoticeable.

Nope... I still have them but not as noticeable as before I started P90X. Not sure if you could see my before picture. I'll add you as buddy so that you can see them emoticon

I wouldn't necessarily say you have gynecomastia FearlessLeeFit. Take it from someone who had a severe case of it, like flabby cone-shaped embarrassments. And I was never too obese for too long. I'm 5'10" and the most I ever weighed was 199lbs which lasted maybe half a year. Polls say 40% of all men in the entire world have some form of it, but MOST just have larger chests. I think you fall into this category, because those with bad cases have zero chances outside of surgery of fixing them. I'd say keep blasting away pushups as exercise seems to be working for you, you look great. But for others it doesn't do a thing. It didn't for me. And doing a round of Power90, and then P90X didnt do it for me either, even after dropping weight and toning up. Surgery was the only answer, and even now, I still have a larger chest but its mostly muscle and bone.

@muzikmaan - I still do on the left side but it's not as severe as before. When did you do the surgery? How long was the healing period? Sorry, I couldn't see it in your "before" picture.

Ha, thats because my "before" picture is a couple months after the surgery. You can tell I was still healing if you look close, and my chest even sinks in a little. I got the surgery in June 2011. The healing was an amazingly easy process.

They say total healing takes 6 months to a year. I definitely healed earlier than that. My profile picture was taken exactly a year after the surgery, and I was well beyond fully healed. It might have to do with how I took care of mysself. I committed to wearing the vest very strictly when I was supposed to and for how long, as well as eating tons of pineapple(a natural healer) and rubbed arnica gel on my chest. And I didnt do hard chest workouts for like 3.5-4 months.

That's awesome man. Did you have much pain right after the surgery and in the weeks that followed? Also, how much did it cost (ballpark)?

I have the same problem... Im currently 20 years old. I have never been over weight yet at one point on my teenage years I was a little chunky. I was 14 when I started to notice a weird change (Besides the common changes)Besides getting a little chunky and well bones growing ect. I also noticed that my chest was getting bigger. At first I thought that i was getting fatter so thats why my moobs were growing too. Ive never complained about it to my parents and well they never said any either so I thought it was probably normal. When I was 15 I probably weight around 150 lb or more but then again I did grew taller to 5' 6" Then I became very Active, Played Football almost everyday, practices cross country and also played Tennis so I started to get rid of my belly. During summer I went from 150-125 lbs by then I had a nice flat belly but My chest was still the same. I tried more push ups and other stuff but nothing happen. It sucks since Im not confortable taking off my shirt, I cant wear polos And sometimes I have to buy larger Dress Shirts since the buttons look like if they are going to pop off... Now I weight around 185 lbs. I never been this big and ofcourse my moobs have never been this big and pointy...

In my conclusion besides working out the only solution if you do have GYNECOMASTIA as bad as me is surgery, nothing more.

Good Luck on ur situation and Yes u are not the only one

Hey Fearless glad to answer all these questions. Pain was so minimal, I would actually just classify it as discomfort. The following weeks, as long as you don't do any heavy lifting, there shouldn't be much pain at all whatsoever. I cannot remember the exact price, but I know it was in the ballpark of $5300-5700. All surgeons have different price ranges though, I've seen people pay like $3500. I had to take 2 credit cards out to pay, but you can't put a price on the outcome. It was an amazingly easier experience than I thought it was gonna be, and now that the cards are paid off, it's like it never happened and it's a whole new life.
