It's so individual....so it's almost impossible to say without more information.

Using myself as an example, about 18 years ago in high school (now I feel old) I injured my left knee....tore a ligament, orthoscopic surgery proved it was a tiny tear and not worth additional surgery. Then about 12 years ago my now ex-husband and I got in those Sumo Wrestling suits at a picnic. Those things weight about 70-80 pounds, and when he tried to knock me down I tried to stay standing, my knees bent, and my right knee popped from the extra weight, I tore cartilage in that knee....to this day I cannot fully extend that knee. But given the fact these are old injuries, but still give me pain on some days, I can do P90X, Insanity, anything....any program! My knees crack when I go upstairs and I can't get as deep in lunges and such until I'm good and warmed up, but I'm able to do it all, and I prefer the intense workouts such as Insanity (which i'm currently on round 2 of)!

Someone with newer injuries, or more extensive may have to do something with less impact, BUT still work the muscles around it, such as Turbo Jam, Slim in 6, power 90 and build up their strength to go on to a more intense program....but because every injury and every person is different there are so many variables. It's up to that person what they can and can't handle.
