I've been doing these video chats for a while now on TeamBeachbody.com, and almost every chat I've done Team Beachbody members have asked me about which food they should be eating. The thing about P90X is that the food is so important to fueling you for your workouts. If you want to get the best results, you need to follow the food plan included in the nutrition booklet that came in the box with your P90X workout program.

So here's what you've got to do:
  1. READ THE BOOK! The nutrition guide that came in the box with your P90X program has tons of information. Everything you need to know about how to eat while doing P90X is in that book.
  2. When you're not sure of what to eat, ask yourself: how many ingredients does this food have? Does it have 67? Don't eat it! Eat whole foods: anything that has one ingredient, like strawberries, broccoli, fish, etc. etc. etc. Eat cleanly and you'll be successful.

I definitely grab and go. I work long and mixed hours at the Ranger Training Brigade, Fort Benning, Ga. We also do PT (physical training) daily, so I have to wake up earlier, before 0300 EST, to do P90X. If I put it off to the evening, I am usually tired and might skip my favorite workouts or give less than 100%.

Here goes: (current carb restricted diet)
0230-0300- 2 scoops pre-workout formula. (equivalent to E&E)

****P90X workout****

0430-0500- 1-2 scoops recovery formula (P90X)

0545- 1 scoop whey protein powder(sometimes I add 1 cup of skim milk)

****Army workout****

0745- eggs, chicken breast, blueberries and strawberries

1000- greek yogurt, scoop of whey, banana

1230- broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, 2.5 oz salmon or tuna,2 low moisture part skim mozzarela sticks (I love Cheese)

1500- 1 oz almonds, V8 (low sodium-spicy hot), scoop of whey

1700-1830- lean meat, veggies

I drink between 1-1.5 gallons of water daily

** If I get hungry in between meals I will have a scoop of whey and water or some Veggies.**

I have found that a recovery drink substantially reduces muscle fatigue and I feel great when I use it.

Plain or vanilla Greek yogurt is one of my faves since it packs such a high amount of protein with so little sugar (compared to other yogurts).

I also LOVE Wahoo's "skinny fish tacos" (which is basically a piece of broiled fish wrapped in lettuce with some fresh salsa, from Wahoo's tacos here in LA). If you don't have a Wahoo's near where you live, this would be pretty easy to make at home with just some broiled or grilled white fish, lettuce, and salsa.

Also, I must mention that I have gotten my personal BEST results from Beachbody's weight training programs (both P90X and Les Mills PUMP) when I started drinking Results & Recovery after each workout. I didn't drink R&R when I did my 90 days of RevAbs in 2011, and now that I drink it after every workout I've had much more energy and I've built more lean muscle. Also, it tastes so good, I really WANT to drink it.

I don't let the nutrition guide overwhelm me. I follow the recipes mostly, but I am not afraid to switch up the "non-essential" ingredients like spices, dressings, and herbs.

Example: Mediterranean Shrimp Kebabs call for olive oil, lemon juice, and oregano. That could easily be "Mexican" shrimp kebabs with hot sauce, cumin, and cilantro. Or "Cajun" Kebabs with cayenne, sea salt, and Italian seasoning.

This can put a different flavor spin on some dishes and make it easy to shop and cook in bulk while having some flavor variety.

I also use store-bought salad dressings. I look for organic dressings that have an olive oil base, or low-fat organic dressings like honey mustard flavor. Bragg dressings are a favorite of mine.

There are some organic frozen meals that I like too. The original P90X nutrition guide suggests some Lean Cuisine options. I prefer Amy's Organic. They make several gluten-free, dairy free, and vegan options that are great to have when there just isn't time to cook.

I use several Beachbody products to supplement my diet. Shakeology is a staple. I also use Results and Recovery and P90X Protein bars on occasion. I find it's good to have healthy snacks on hand so if you don't feel like cooking, the temptation to go to the drive-through in a pinch is gone.

I lost 20 lbs in about 3 weeks by eating single ingredient food. I wanted to take it a step further so I started P90X. I have lost another 17 lbs. I've been doing P90X now for a little over 30 days and in total I have watched what I ate for about 2 months and I am now almost 40 lbs lighter! Also, my blood press went form 140/85 to 106/65! My job has ridiculous hours and is very hard to plan anything. I make sure I have fruit salad, romaine/spinach salad, and fresh salsa all ready to go every week. Its easy then to throw a meal together and stay away from fast food.

Breakfast lunch and snacks are the same everyday. Fewer choices for me are better. B- 6 egg whites Snack-yogurt with berries Lunch-shakeology (love it) Snack- P90X bar R&R Drink and Low cal dinner. Had Island Pork tenderloin from p90x guide last night. P90X changed our world and we are bringing it again with P90X2. We start phase 3 this week. Bring it!

Just about to start p90x when I joined this site I changed my ways in my diet. Soda gone. 64oz of water everyday now. chips and whatever deep fried something the store had for lunch gone now keep a lunch cooler of carrots, apples and oranges next to me as I work. I do a lot of heavy lifting all day and was always tired now I feel good all day and I even lost 10 lbs. I can only imagine when I include shakeology and p90x in to the mix.

I prepare my meals daily. My family has begun to eat the same foods as me, which makes it easier to follow. I also paid for the club membership which has awesome recipes. We have not had a bad meal yet.

Sooo...are you saying I should read the Nutrition Guide? ;-)

Seriously, I've been doing P90X for over two years (on P90X2 right now, and it's living up to the advertisement of being a new way to whip myself into shape), and I've said that whole time that of the entire P90X program, the nutrition Plan is the hardest thing to do. The workouts are only one to one and a half hours out of my day. the Nutrition Plan is ALL DAY, EVERY DAY! THAT'S the game-changing aspect of P90X for many people. I wish I could say that I've always followed the plan. I was lazy my first time through P90X, and my second year on P90X was while deployed to Afghanistan, so I didn't have a lot of control over the food that was being offered. However, with my return to the US, and my foray into P90X2, I've re-invigorated my efforts to make sure that I kKeep to the plan. I'm still not at the body composition that I'd like, but I've turned a corner on the nutrition lifestyle change, so I'm optimistic about the results to come.

The nutrition plan is hard, and since I'm going on my second week to p90x I'm doing my best to eating 5 meals a day breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, and dinner. I try not to eat anything after 7. I mainly exercise at night since its the only time I have throughout my busy day time. Im a labor worker so I do move around a lot that normally works up an appetite. Shakeology is what I love to drink in the morning, highly recommend it, protein bars and almonds for snack is perfect for me. I mainly try and eat a big breakfast while taking one a day supplements, and omega-3 pills. Then have a medium sized lunch then a light dinner. By the end of the day I'm not starving and still ready to bust through the workouts. For the nutrition plan I could only say I do my best at counting the points in the phases.

Best part about doing this, is that I'm not drinking any soda (my worst enemy/addiction) and not eating out 24/7 like I used to. So I know that I'm dropping the weight.

I JUST NEED TO KNOW IS OATMEAL MEASURED A HALF CUP AFTER COOKING OR A HALF CUP SERVING BEFORE COOKING BCZ IT BULKS UP TO A 1 AND 1/4 CUP AFTER ITS COOKED

The nutrition plan is wonderful and describes the type of eating that I feel most comfortable following.,
I am frustrated, however, because I am 5'2" and cannot eat as much food as I am told to eat in the plan and still loose weight. 1300 calories (the smallest amount listed) will maintain my current weight, but will not help me loose, even while doing P90X and running 3 miles each day. Any help for smaller women? Thanks.

My Wife and I used the Nutrition Guide religiously the 1st time we did P90X. The second and 3rd time started using the Insanity nutrition guide for a little change. My wife now will cook almost all our food for the week sundays. The snacks prepared in the mornings.
I feel you need to keep things fresh, because the more you eat the same 12-13 things the quicker you will start to get board. Since using the guides, i do now make better decisions when eating out thats for sure. But we do slip off the diet plan still sometimes... To combat that we keep lots of whole food snacks, Almonds, Veggie slices, Fruit in the house, and that helps alot.

I go through the nutrition guide and pick out two different breakfasts, snacks and lunches that are quick and easy to prepare, and 4 or five different dinners. Then go shopping for the week. The night before I prepare my breakfast, snacks and lunch to take with me to work the next day. I keep my food selection within the nutrition guide and really enjoy the menu's provided.

For me as a chef, I like to have a lot of variety, so I find myself taking various recipes from the book and putting my own spin on it. For example, tonight I'm having the Island Pork, I'll trim as much of the fat off as possible and after the pork is cooked, drain off most of the rest of the fat and turn it into Island Pulled Pork. Small changes like that can make huge difference if one were to find that they were getting bored with the food, and in this case, really the only thing to change was the texture of the meat.

The major challenge for me staying on track with what I eat also comes from being a chef. I love food and I love to eat. When I find myself craving something that I know I shouldn't eat, I try to satisfy that craving by using it as inspiration in an upcoming meal. Another example: I had a hard time getting to sleep last night and found myself craving curry. So when I woke up and started making breakfast, 3 slices of turkey bacon and 4 egg whites, I added some of my homemade curry powder to the eggs. Again, something very simple. Not to mention the added health benefits from the spices.

When I do meals at home, I generally make enough to last my wife and I 2-3 days. I also try to keep fruits and vegetables pre-cut and stored so that we can just reach in and grab a snack or have a salad ready in seconds.

Definately try to stick to the nutrition guide, it takes the guesswork out of meal planning and portion sizes. The challenge for me so far has been to consume as much food as required and in more regular intervals. I've picked up bad habits from working a desk job, like reduced calorie intake and meals seperated by hours...like toast and coffee for breakfast, then a big dinner...that's it.

I hope to jump-start my metabolism by re-learning how to eat properly, and on a different schedule.

I will have to say, the one thing helped me the most is Shakeology. I have 4 more weeks togo on 90x lean i am down 31 lbs. you can add more stuff to it or just drink it as is. easy quick option. really does keep you full and so healthy. It does have a strange taste, chocalte, but well worth it. If you add a banna and peanut butter or strawberries covers up that taste real easy. I now just make min with water and some ice. If you really want to see the results or you serious about this journey, sign up for it. be the second best decision you made regarding your heath. first one would be doing a work out program. I also do a better oats oatmeal in the morning. about 120 cals. dinner i do what ever i want but tend to keep it very simple. snack nuts or a gronal bar. fruit is really good to. If you have to question your self is this something i should eat, the answer to that question is probally not.

This is my first time through P90X so I am sticking exactly to the meal plan. I find if I do my grocery shopping once per week and prep the fruit and veggies it makes for quick grabbing snacks. I also prepare my lunch for the next day at the same time I'm cooking supper the night before so that everything is done and ready to go by the time my supper is ready. I am really enjoying the various recipes with each of the phase changes.

I am vegan so even following the vegetarian guide didn't work at all. So I have a plantbased protien shake with 1T. cinnamon, 1 T. chia seeds and almond milk for breakfast......lunch is usually leftovers from the dinner b4 which is a protien source of tempeh, tofu or gimmelean with brown rice or some other whole grain or brown rice pasta and veggies. Also throw in another protien shake and a vegan protien bar or a green smoothie as snacks. I log my food every day at livestrong.com so I can keep track of my protien, fat, calories and fiber. It works great! Eat 30 grams of protien 30 min after waking if possible. Only use safflower, coconut or olive oil. I am 3 days short of finishing p90x and didn't lose any weight (didn't really need that) but went from doing 1 reverse grip pull up to 11 now and my whole body is firm. I can do lots of push ups on my toes and at first only on my knees. So much stronger.
