BBL or Insanity to tighten that "mommy tummy"?
insanity muffin bbl stomach area
3/21/12 11:09 AM
I have read a lot of threads of people combining these two, but I would like to focus on just one 60 day workout for now. I will finish with my Turbo Jam Fat Burning Elite soon and am now looking into the next challenge. My problem areas are the "mommy belly" and muffin top. I'd like to keep improving everything else, too, but stomach area is main focus. BBL looks like great fun and I've seen pics with nice tummy results, too. Insanity looks, mhmm, insane but friends have been really happy with it. Not sure if I am that hardcore though. Important is that I can actually stick with it and not stop because it is either frustratingly hard or not showing results a month into it.

Any advice/suggestions... what did you do?

I also have the mommy tummy, and was doing Turbo Jam for about a month...I love Chalene, but realized that in order for me to see real results, I needed something hardcore. I am on day 4 of insanity, and i LOVE it!! I'm not usually into hardcore exercising, but this really is amazing. I wish I could tell you that I got results already, but my weigh-in/measurements don't happen until friday. What i CAN tell you is that I already feel stronger, my flexibility has already greatly improved (I have never been able to touch my toes, my hamstrings have always been too tight!) and I just feel stronger! Also,I have heard that Turbo Fire works really well and isn't as intense...Good luck!

I will be interested in hearing the replies you get as I am looking for the same result. Although it's been many, many years since I've had kids, I've still retained the tummy. Am just completing Power90 and I'm thinking to do BBL next as I also want the thigh slimming rather than muscle buildup. Hope you get some good answers. emoticon

Neither or any of the above for workout rotuines. Nutrition is the number 1 most important thing for acquiring abs. Period. Abs are made in the kitchen. If you have any nutrition guides from the programs, a good coach, a doctor, or a nutritionist, build your plan and make it your number 1 priority.

Plain and simple you can't out exercise poor nutrition.

I really appreciate your opinion and I can say that I have my nutrition pretty much under control although it is not perfect. But all the good nutrition in the world doesn't tighten the "post-baby-flab" without excercise. I'm not looking for a ripped six-pack - just a flat tummy again.

If you're not looking for a "ripped" belly but a simple flat belly, nutrition is all you need. Low calorie/Low carb. Don't believe me, try it.

Now since you have your nutrition in order, anything will get you there. What you pick will get you there faster. Insanity or Asylum burns the most calories in the shortest amount of time. So if you're looking for the most effective way, that's it.

If you're looking for a "personality" that fits your motivation, Chalene seems to connect with women the most. Turbofire or Chalene Extreme will work.

Otherwise, simple cardio will get you there with the right daily diet.

Good luck.

Thank you @coachedthompson and @jbeke105 for your recommendentation. It really sounds like "Insanity" is the way to do it.

I would still like to hear from people who have done the BBL and Insanity!

Hi Boleyna,

I agree with everyone here in terms of nutrition being a major factor in requiring that nice tummy, but if you want a flat tummy definitely go for BBL. I personally haven't done Insanity before but know by looking at the results from some women that you'll get tight, ripped abs (which I would really love, but everyone's preference is different and have read that you didn't want ripped abs). I've been doing BBL for just about two months and it has really flattened my tummy as well as trimmed the rest of my body, so I can say from experience that it works. Take care and good luck on your weight loss journey!

Hi Waterhands20,
did you take before & after photos by any chance that you would be willing to share?
There are not a lot pics out there unfortunately. Same goes for women who have done insanity. It seems to work wonders for men though.
Thank you :-)

Okay, so no offense to Coachedthompson but I think that maybe not being a female causes him to think that it's a bit different getting rid of the baby belly than what it really is. While nutrition is really important you need some workouts to tone up so that you start to shrink.

I'm doing BBL right now and I'm only on Day 4 right now but I can honestly say that I'm feeling better as far as my baby belly goes. I had my daughter 4 years ago and just couldn't get rid of that little bit of love my baby left me with. I think that BBL would be great for you to do because it has the Tummy Tuck incorporated into all of the routines and your stomach is also worked throughout most of the other workouts. I haven't done Insanity but my hubby has it (is starting on it Monday) but I think that I'm more likely to stick with BBL than I am with Insanity.

No offense taken. My wife has had three children. Just recently had baby Lucas, who is now 2 weeks old. I have coached her through every time. The young lady in question said she wants a flat tummy not a ripped tummy.

It is a fact that you cannot spot burn fat. The body takes it off in layers when you begin to lose weight. You can build muscle in an area which can help. She is not neccesarily looking to do that. So it is simple science of calories in versus calories out while avoiding blood sugar spiking. Being male or female does not avoid simple science. If she burns more calories than she takes in, she'll lose fat. Eventualy the tummy will go.

I personaly think she should build muscle because muscle increases metabolism. It will make the burn process easier.

Thank you again for all your input. I guess I have to clarify my situation and my goals here a little. I have been doing several BB workouts for years and Si6 and P90 really helped me to get most of my baby weight off after my 2 kids. The "young Lady" is now 38 and finds that general workouts like Turbo Jam help but do not seem to be enough or just not the right workout anymore. @Kamahi- you know exactly what I mean!

I have been alternating cardio and light weight training. My goal: shed the last 10-15 pounds overall through diet and excercise and tone that "baby flab" once and for all. I wear a size 6/8 but am not comfortable due to that "lose belly". I know that my diet is good but not strict enough for that "ripped" 6-pack and that is not what I am after, but my goal is a tighter, flat tummy.

On a different note: My husband has started with Insanity a week ago and is already seeing results (although the first week you lose the most, I know). My issue is that my heartrate usually goes a lot higher, a lot faster and then takes twice as long to get back to a more "normal" heartrate. Therefore I am not sure if Insanity would be effective, if my heart rate is never in the right fat burning zone.

Now I am even thinking to maybe do the Si6 again since this really works the female target areas. Unfortunately - while effective this program can be boring due to it's repetitive nature. BBL looks like so much fun! I am aware that there is no "quick fix" - just looking for the right program that I can stick with.

PS.@coachedthompson- In regards to bloodsugar spikes: in a healthy adult the BG does not go over 140/150 due to the body releasing the correct amount of insulin at the right time. (This is only an issue for people with Type2 Diabetes). Obviously the right food keeps you feel fuller for longer but a healthy adult will never get out of the normal, healthy 65-140 BG zone.

I have done 60 days of the BBL. I lost about 5 inches in my waist and almost 4 in my hips from BBL. I can definitely tell my tummy is flatter and some of the "baby pooch" is gone. But I started out as a size 14 which meant I have a long way to go so I'm doing it another round which I started a few days ago. I love the ab video which works the lower abs (mine burn so much each time) and I think that helps a lot. It's only an 18 minute video so I'm thinking of sticking it in extra so I get it maybe 4 or 5 times a week instead of the 2 that most of the BBL schedule shows.

I am speaking about high glycemic foods. Doughnuts, white bread, sugar, potatoes, and their relationship to spiking blood sugar.

Good luck on your journey. I wish you the best.

BTW - I have just ordered the BBL workout and can hopefully start 2 April! Once I have completed that program and I'm still not quite where I want to be I will go ahead and do INSANITY.

Thanks again to everyone for their input!

I honestly believe you can use any program to flatten your belly. It took me a combination of spot on nutrition and Turbo Fire to really lose the belly flab and Les Mills Pump and Insanity are now helping me tighten it up. However, because I have a mama belly, some of that flab will always be there because my skin is a little loose. Women all carry fat there but having tight skin from not having a baby keeps that fat lying flat against your muscles instead of hanging down a little so... after having a baby, your flab looks a little flabbier. But it does go away, it just takes a little more effort with keeping a clean diet. I also have a schedule for exfoliating and make sure I moisturize twice a day and that's seemed to help a little bit. But I'm a mama and I earned this hanging skin so ya know, I can deal with the top of my abs being ripped. I earned it. You can do P90X until the cows come home but delivering a baby? That's a whole different kind of strength. So, check out my before and after photos and see. But it wont' come in 60 days. It took me 10 months of hard freaking work.

Hi Rachel - I love your answer! I agree with you - as Mama's we've earned our "stripes" and "flab" the hard way :-) . Thanks for the exfoliating tip, I will definitly try that.
UPDATE on BBL - I am into my second week now (the DVDs were shipped mega-fast) and I can already see (and feel) a difference. I'm doing the "too big" schedule, which has the most cardio - and the work-outs are not easy at all but so much fun!

UPDATE - Amazing results ca. 6 weeks into it. Haven't lost a lot of pounds (4) but my whole body shape has changed! Everything is sculpted and toned, the tummy flatter - yay. Bought a new bikini to celebrate - definitely recommend BBL!emoticon
