I would really like to prchase shakelogy but really cant afford the extra expense right now. Has anyone else completed isnanity without shakelogy? How were your results? Also what about without recovery drink. I would really like to purchase both but cant at this time, and just hoping this doesnt slow my results with insanity. If nothing else I could get the recovery drink, but not both.

I added you as a buddy so I can send you a private message if you don't mind! I've done a lot of research and hopefully can provide you some useful information. With that said, having the right diet is most important when working a program such as Insanity. Following the nutrition plan provided is a great way to stay healthy, however, there are many other ways to eat the right diet and get your desired results. Insanity is very taxing on the body and you will be burning through all your energy sources which will need to be replenished. One recovery drink that is low cost is low fat chocolate milk. Chocolate milk will replenish your carbs, proteins, as well as your blood sugar for better absorption of vitamins and minerals. The recovery drink is great too, but chocolate milk is another alternative. Message me if you'd like more details emoticon

Hey!
Chocolate milk is great for recovery because it gives you a 3 to 1 ratio of carbs over protein and really helps with muscle recovery.
Hope this helps and good luck with your workouts! emoticon

Just goto your local grocery store and get a low fat chocolate milk 1% would be just great. I usually drink about emoticonz (1 cup) after a workout. Plenty of people have done Insanity without Shakelogy. Your body needs to replenish itsself so I don't think it is taking away from your dairy intake.

Hey i am in the same position. Everyone is talking about how great shakeology is, but i really cant afford it either. I am using chocolate milk as a recovery drink though. Just hope that i can see good results without the shakeology, as at the moment (I am on day 11) I have not seen any weight loss or inch change. I too would like to know of anyone who has seen good results without the use of shakeology??

Thanks emoticon

Are you following the diet plan? I am just most worried about each too much or too little. I am going to track my calories though. I figured I need about 1830 calories from the equation and the meal plan guide says 1900 and I want to loose about 15 to 20 pounds so it places me under the low carb. I have been eating healthy but by no means have I been eating 1900 calories. I have been staying about 1200 a day so when I start insanity I will have to increase my intake.

Total cost per serving (approximate):
Organic Chocolate milk: about $0.35 to $0.50 (when bought by the carton/half gallon)

You get what you pay for. Bottom line - is the extra nutritional value worth it to you? If you're putting all the effort into Insanity is it worth it to put optimal nutrition back in your body, or go the bargain route?

You can still get results doing Insanity without the Recovery Drink or Shakeology. R and R, and Shakeology are great tools to help you maximize results.

Hi there, I am on day 18 of Insanity myself and to date I have not used Results and Recovery formula or Shakeology due to the price as well. After I work out I make my self a protein shake and drink that or have 1 cup of skim milk and pour in some liquid Nestle Quick. I follow the nutrition plan supplied and as far as losing weight goes, (i want to lose 16lbs) I lost 2lbs in the first week but then gained it back BUT in muscle. I have lost inches though in my waist and hips which has been really great! I've read that Month 1 is a lot of lower body work and the muscle you've replaced the fat with will melt off in Month 2 as that's all upper body movement for the most part. I decided to bite the bullet though and order Shakeolgoy for Month 2 in order to enhance my results. I also came across where you should hide your scale and not go on it till you're done the program as it'll just mess with your head if it goes down then up or stays the same.

Hope this helps!

Holli,

I drink chocolate milk as my recovery drink. I'm in week 5, but when I took my measurements in week 2 and again at the end of week 4 (Feb.29-March18th), I had lost 4 1/4 inches all around. So yes, there is opportunity to lose inches. I watch what I eat but I'm not on a strict diet and I don't drink Shakeology. It just doesn't fit into my budget right now. Maybe someday.

Good luck to you and to you all!

Jesscia - I kind of follow the diet plan, i use the ideas of the meals provided. But i basically eat oatmeal with walnuts and fruit or some form of eggs for breakfast. Then for lunch i will normally have a salad or 2/3 ryvitas with fat free cream cheese and marmite, i then sometimes snack on carrots and hummus. My evening meal is either a veggie style burger with salad or veg, or chicken stir fry or veg. Then if im hungry on a night have a yoghurt or protein bar. The plan says i need to eat like 2100 cals, which my coach said was to high. I try to aim for like 1800, but some days i probs only eat about 1200 i think. I really dont know if this is enough or not?

GlenG - thanks for all the information and i know you get what you pay for. I wouldn't say I am taking the bargain route, i just don't have the disposable income of others being a student on an intern-ship in a different country. I am trying to make best with what i have.

Angel/Riesens - Thanks for the support, its good to know that people do see results without the shakeology. Good luck to you as well emoticon

I have lifted weights for quite some time, but have stopped recently due to straining the ligaments in my shoulder in a non-weightlifting event...

So I am going back to bodyweight Insanity. While lifting I used a product called "Re-Con" by MusclePharm (Link to Re-Con). It is a recovery drink, and from my lifting days where my limbs would be completely immobile from muscle pain, this stuff reduced my recovery and overall muscle pain between workouts drastically. I say all of that because it is a bit lower priced supplement that probably offers similar recovery effects as Beachbody products. Most recovery drinks have very similar ingredients and effects, just with a different product name. The Re-Con sells for $38.99 on bodybuilding.com, and since I am cheap, the way I see it is, saving money is saving money. Don't let the term bodybuilding turn you off from purchasing products from that site. They have notable prices on various items. Hope this was a decent alternate consideration.

One of the things about supplements that some either don't know about, or forget; is that they are meant to augment a normal diet of the items already contained in them, not to be the sole source. If you can eat foods that contain the same ingredients and a sufficient amount of them, then there is no need to buy supplements, because you are already recieving the right amount. Now if the cost of such foods will exceed that of which a cheaper supplemental item will provide, then it is more economical to go with the supplement. You would have to do alot of research and analysis to come up with what would work best for you and your current financial state.

For instance, it is said that for a bodybuilder to gain new muscle mass, they should consume at the least, 1.5g of protein per pound of their current bodyweight, per day (include specific workout regimens). Now if they eat regular foods that will meet those goals, they have no need to use a protein shake. However, for those of use that can't afford to buy that much or those types of food, we have to get protein shakes to reach that nutrient goal of 1.5g per pound of current bodyweight.

Recovery drinks help to reduce the amount of soreness and fatigue you suffer in-between workouts. Thus taking you into your next workout without starting in the state of complete exhaustion from the days prior. In HIIT, if you try to do it everyday, and aren't replenishing nutrients needed for your body to recover, you will end up stacking fatigue on fatigue, and will eventually be at the point where you either can't or don't want to do anymore. Again, this doesn't necessarily have to come from a Recovery Drink, but can come from food sources. Recovery drinks take the research part out of it, so we know we can just buy it and drink. A sufficient amount of sleep (usually 8 hours or more) makes a huge difference in recovery times as well, as that is the time when your body repairs the most amount of damage suffered from that day of work. I like to encourage people to conduct research on things that they consume, so they can make more economical decisions later on down the road. Product companies make life easier for us by doing the research for us, which comes back around in the product price as well. So why not just gain the knowledge and potentially save yourself some money? Anyway, sorry for the rant. Hope I sparked some ideas for research.

Hi there!

I'm now in week 6 of insanity and I'm not using shakeology or recovery drink. I am trying to follow the nutritional program, and stay within the right range of calorie intake. You wanted to know about results. So far I've lost about 16 lbs and about 3% body fat. This isn't the easy weight either as I lost about 18 lbs with just a better diet prior to starting insanity. As a gauge, I weighed 303 in December, started insanity Feb 13th at 285 and weighed in at 269 last week. I think you can be successful without the shakeology or recovery drink if you stick to the workouts and the diet as best you can.

Following the diet plan and making sure you're eating enough calories and the right balance of foods is important. I like myfitnesspal.com or the myfitnesspal app for your iphone/android as a way to track calories. Simple easy entry with a huge database of meals make it easy to track your calorie intake and make sure you're on the right track. I find that it's very easy to undereat because I think I'm on a diet.

Im just starting the 2nd month of insanity and havent had any weight lose or inches. i def can't afford the shakeology... but i have been paying attention to the infomerials lately and if you look the results you see are from them doing insanity 2 times not just 60 days. i am sure the shake ology is helping them too but its a money making thing. i was also told that you start seeing results in the second month... what id like to know is if im only eating 1400 calories a day and soaked after an insanity work out and burn close to 300 calories a workout how am i not seeing results? what am i doing wrong? then thats when i think its the other supplements they are taking thats helping them lose faster:/

if you eat at subway, get a coffee, get a salad, or eat out any where at all daily then you can afford shakeology. im a broke college kid, i use to get a subway 6inch turkey at subway for $4something, shakeology is $4, so i just switched it out for that. its honestly my favorite meal of the day.

but yeah its not needed, it has plenty of great benefits and i would recommend it to anyone dieting or want to be healthier. and r&r is also great, but like others said you can have chocolate milk.

are you talking about weighing results? or measuring results? because scales lie... shakeology does help with a lot of things, but the weight loss part of it, is honestly one of its smallest factor. shakeology losses weight over time by flushing toxins out of your body and helping you digest food better over time. it has other amazing benefits to it, but it def wouldnt be the reason your not losing weight... and if you want to try it, then try it. it seems more expensive then it is, $4 a day, is cheaper then buying a coffee or sub daily... order shakeology here.

You can't out exercise a bad diet. If you are aware of your macros you don't need to buy shakeology. You can do your diet with whole foods.

I made it through Insanity just fine without it and got incredible results. To be honest I think Shakeology is incredibly overrated. Just find some healthy food recipes and that's all you need.
