Insanity week 1 (weight loss question)
Showing 11 results.
Hi, I am just looking for some advice. I just finished my week-1 with insanity. To my surprise I have not lost as much weight as I expected. I lost only 1 lb this week. I am on Shakeology as a meal replacement for breakfast and a 1200 calorie diet that I keep track on myfitnespal.com. Yesterday I bought a heart rate/calorie counter monitor and during "polymetric cardio circuit" it said I burned 450cal. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank You!

Yeah I right there with you Amanda. I just finished my second week and didn't have good results at all either. I'm pretty discouraged. I use a HR monitor, I also use myfitpal for calorie tracking. I thought I was having a good week. I don't know. Going to just have to push on. My friend that is working out with me is in the same boat. Week 2 no weight loss and discouraged. IDK what the answer is honestly. I'm just going to still commit everyday and eat right and hope that it all pays off.

You do realize that in order to lose a pound of fat you have to have a calorie deficit for the week of 3500 calories. In other words when you combine all that you eat for the week, you need to burn 3500 calories more than what you ate for the week.So for a 1200 calorie a day diet you need to burn a total of 11,900 calories, but that includes all activity including the calories you burn while sleeping, driving the car, working out, etc. I find the best way to keep track of that is to use the fitness tracker on web md.

And don't forget Shaun T says to push yourself a little more every time you do the workout, it should never be easy.

If anything I didn't get enough calories this week. I also track my workouts by my HR monitor. I keep my HR int he 85% target zone throughout my exercising. So I don't think that calorie intake or pushing in in my workouts was the issue.

Remember the scale is weighing everything. Fat, muscle, bone, fluid and tissue. It is not weighing just the fat. After one week your body is still adjusting to the workouts and any changes you are making to your nutrition plan. After a week you may have burned some fat, probably have not added any significant muscle yet, but your fluid levels have probably been changing. Your fat, muscle and fluid retention are all going to change independently of each other throughout the program. You may lose more weight on the scale one week than another, but a better indicator of progress is the tape measure and the mirror. If you are losing inches, or just find your clothes fitting better then you know you are losing fat. If you do start gaining some lean muscle, because it is more dense than fat, the same pound of muscle is going to take up less space than a pound of fat. So there may be a week where you lose a pound on the scale and lose a bunch of inches off your body.

I remember reading a post on Chalene Johnson's blog where she said something like don't really pay attention to the scale for about 3 weeks into a new workout because your body will still be adjusting to it. Then if you are not losing inches AND are not seeing any change on the scale you should make changes to your diet.

It didn't take a week to put on the weight, so how can you expect to lose it in a week? The scale cannot be your only measurement of success. It takes time to speed up your metabolism and to reverse your body from storing fat to burning fat. Give it time and keep working out. Compare your pics after 30 days. You may not lose a lot of weight, but you'll look better, feel better. Would you really be disappointed if you were the same weight, but your waist was 2 inches smaller and your arms and legs hand some nice muscle tone?

The first time I did Insanity ,I lost 53 pounds. This second time the weight isn't coming off easy because my fitness level is higher. I'm now adding P90X to my regimen and doing 3 days a week of two a day workouts. Fitness professionals and elite athletes work out 3-4 hours a day. Who am I to think I can have that same body by just doing cardio one hour a day?

Thank you so much for your advice. I know it's only been a week but I just figure with all the cardio and working out 6 days this week would of brought me better results. I have lost 20lbs on my own before insanity and never did as much cardio and it seem to work. I do understand that this is a new program and maybe it is just a matter of time getting adjusted. I love the part that u said to wait for 3 weeks after starting something new to see change. I am not giving up no matter what or how long it take but I am so thankful for your advice and time! Thank you take care!

Congrats on the 20lb loss! Enjoy Insanity. It is hard, but so worth by the end.

All I can say is stick to it. Just like you, before I started Insanity, I lost 15 pounds by eating better. I am about to start month 2 tomorrow and I have lost only 11 pounds. Its not a lot if you think about how much I have been pounding my body, but I have lost more than 8 inches over all. 4 in just my chest. I decided as of today, Im not going to weigh my self for the next two weeks just to keep my mind off it.

Good luck, keep pushing play

Joe

Yeah I am with you too. I am not going to weigh myself either for a least two more weeks. I took my measurements and I will do that when I weigh in next. Thank you all so much the the words of encouragement. I do greatly appreciate it! emoticon
