Nutrition is the key to any weight loss plan and without it you will get diminished results. Don;t worry about the significance of your results, worry about results period. One month in you will not get as good results as if you had been eating clean from day 1, but who cares, you didn't put the weight on in 60 days you will not take it off in 60 days. If you have to go another round or two to get where you want, so be it. As far as whey protein shakes go, one food item will make no difference on your results. You need to look at your overall nutrition, calculate your caloric needs and eat in a deficit that will help you lose the weight you want (or a surplus if you are looking to gain). I completed Insanity without any protein shakes as you should not be on a high protein diet with Insanity. It is a very intense workout and you need the carbs to fuel your metabolism. I eat around 60% carbs, 20% protein and 20% fat and continue to lose fat and gain definition.

Recovery drinks are mostly carbohydrates, not protein, in a ratio of 4:1 c:p with no added fat or fiber (they slow absorption). Many people just drink fat free chocolate milk or apple juice mixed with protein powder, the BB brand is just a more expensive version of this. Many people, like myself, do not use a recovery drink at all (and studies have questioned its effectiveness and usefulness). I drank it while doing P90x and at the beginning of my first round of Insanity, but did an experiment and went without for the second half of Insanity and the Asylum and found no difference in recovery or muscle soreness. It was just extra calories that I could eat as real food somewhere else in the day so I stopped using it. Try it for yourself and see if it does anything for you, if it helps, go for it, if not, skip it.

I am doing an Insanity/Asylum hybrid. I do the following schedule:

Monday: Insanity Upper Body Weight Training & Asylum Overtime
Tuesday: Asylum Relief
Wednesday: Asylum or Insanity cardio workout plus Asylum Overtime if it is a shorter workout - goal is to burn 800 calories.
Thursday: Asylum Relief
Friday: Asylum Strength & Asylum Overtime
Saturday: 5 Mile Run (or cardio workout if weather is bad)
Sunday: Rest Day

I may ditch the Saturday run and just go to three days a week workouts and just cut back my calories eaten to compensate. I am in maintenance mode having lost all the weight and body fat I want, so I can be more flexible.
