A few items for you to review

This depends on the program, but the following information should help you get things in order:

Dumbbells: You can begin with the standard dumbbells from Wal-Mart all the way to the Bowflex Select-Tech 552 dumbbells. Powerblocks are also an option. I personally use free-weights and simply buy an extra set when I’m ready to go up in weight. If you’re not sure what level you’ll need, ask away and we can help give you some suggestions.

Resistance Bands:
An affordable alternative to Dumbbells. These allow for easier storage. Better for on the go. Don’t go cheap on these. Buy quality bands to avoid breakage.

Chin-Up Bar:
You can get the BB pull-up bar which offers lots of different hand positions to maximize versatility. You can also find different variations by googling “chin up bar” if the BB bar doesn’t work with your space.

Push Up Bars: Totally optional. Some of you may experience some wrist pain from the push ups. I used to do gymnastics, and my wrists hurt without using the push-up bars. If you do too, the bars will eliminate that. The Power Stands are available through Beachbody.

Yoga Mat:
All the retailers have these. Just need something for a little cushion.

Yoga Block:
If you are not the most flexible, these will assist you in your stretches. On the other side of things – if you are very flexible, the blocks will help enhance some of your stretches.

Stability Ball: Get a high-grade stability ball. You’ll be bouncing, balancing and laying on it. Needs to be high quality. The BB 55cm stability ball comes with the deluxe and ultimate packages of P90X2. You don’t want to go cheap on this piece of equipment if you’re doing X2.

Medicine Balls: Need at least 2. Can get them at BB, or at other online retailers. I would suggest two 8 pound balls. As you move through the program you’ll need a couple of other balls (but they don’t have to be medicine balls. Basketballs or weighted soccer balls work too!)

Pull-up Assist: Not required, but for those of us that can’t bang out 12-15 pull-ups, the assist is the best piece of equipment on the market. I did 3 rounds of p90x before I got mine for p90X2, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Those of you that purchase the Deluxe and Ultimate packages of P90X2 will also get 2 additional extreme P90X2® workouts., V-Sculpt and Chest, Shoulders and Tri’s. These are great workouts and make it possible to extend or completely change Phase II.

Agility Ladder & Speed Rope (both of which come with the basic kit, or you can buy separately)
Resistance Bands
Pull-up bar is optional (but worth it if you have room)!

This is not to be ignored and is an essential part of your success. Read through your nutrition guides that were provided with your fitness program. Feel free to share tips and recipes on this forum to help others. For many, nutrition can be a very challenging part of the program. Nutrition may seem tough at first but once you get the hang of it, it’s easy. Remember when you first rode a bicycle? It was the toughest thing on earth, now that you know how to do it, it is easy!”

If you have any questions on calories, meals, etc, please feel free to reach out to me.

Use the SMART Acronym

S = Specific. Not ‘I want to lose some weight’. Instead, how about ‘ I want to lose 15 pounds’.
M= Measureable. Make sure the goal you set is something you can easily measure and accomplish.
A=Attainable. Make sure the goal you are setting is realistic. Don’t go too easy – just make sure it is something within your reach in a 90 day time frame.
R=Realistic. Keep it real. Make sure it is attainable. Make sure it is challenging.
T=Time Limited. We’ve already made that one easy. 90 DAYS!!

Take a before photo. You will want to be able to reference these along your fitness journey!!! The p90x guide explains this in full detail. Make sure you get front shots, side shots, back shots and muscle flexing shots. You want to make sure you can visually see your progress! You will also redo these shots at 30, 60 and 90 days.
Take measurements as outlined in your guide. This will provide you with additional information on your progress.
Take the fit test associated with your program and write it down. This is essential in judging your fitness level and tracking improvement.

Well – that about sums it up. Lots of information here. Feel free to contact me with any questions that you have. Doesn't matter when you first pushed play! We have people who started in June, July, August and hopefully we can now add YOU to that list!!!!

Who is with me? Let’s do this! Dig Deeper!!!!

One week from today we will be pushing play for another round -- and for some their first round.

This week is the time to review meal plans and get nutrition in order.

Here's some information that can't go unnoticed!

Calories add of from every source.

If you need some help getting your nutrition plan arranged, just drop me a line or post here. Doesn't matter if you're a newbie, a vet, or starting a new program that you've never done -- we'll get you set!

This is my last week of Insanity and then I kick it up a notch with the P90X/Insanity Hybrid starting June 16th! Very excited about it!

Thanks so much for starting this next round, especially since my start date is right about there (I'm always too late to too early).

And you have certainly shown P90x who is boss!! That's quite a few rounds under your belt. Way to go!

A bit about me: was in the Army a long time ago, former Crossfitter (had to stop due to bad shoulder injury from kipping pull ups), completed one half marathon, have loved fitness since I was a kiddo watching Mary Lou Retton win the Gold (I even had Get In Shape Girl), I've helped a few people get back to/start exercising, changed up their nutrition plans to help them lose weight, I'm a big time foodie (that's healthy food too, of course...haha) and an avid Salsa Dancer. LOL! I enjoy going out there and cutting some rug on the dance floor!! That's about it.

I'll post some goals when I have my final Insanity numbers.

Enjoy your day and look forward to sharing during this next 90 day journey :-)
Report Post Report Post
@atheltelegs -- I can't wait to see your Insanity numbers. That is quite an accomplishment -- not too many people can say that they have completed the hardest workout ever put to DVD!!!

I don't know if you've already found a hybrid schedule to use. Here is the link to the BB hybrid program. I did this as my second round -- and it was AWESOME!!

P90X/Insanity Hybrid Workout Sheets

Hybrids are a great way to get the best of two different programs. I'm getting ready to finish a hybrid I created with X2 and Insanity -- it has been awesome!!

Look forward to seeing your goals! We've got a great round in front of us!

Hi CoachMLT!

Yuppers! That is the Hybrid I will be using. Insanity is indeed brutal but in a good way...hahaha! But I sure do miss the weight-training aspect, especially for my upper body, and the one pull-up I could do has turned into a 1/4 pull-up. LOL! But my endurance has jumped through the roof which is awesome!

You are the hybrid QUEEN! So what do you plan on doing next?

Can't wait to get started emoticon
Report Post Report Post
I am planning on doing another hybrid. emoticon

But this time I am going to incorporate Asylum and P90X as well. I'm ready to try some more advanced stuff with Shaun T and return to the original with Tony!!

Hey in case any one else is considering doing a hybrid this round, below are the other hybrid schedules from BB:

P90X/P90X+ Hybrid Workout Sheets

P90X/P90X One-on-One Hybrid Workout Sheets

P90X/Turbo Fire Hybrid Worksheets

P90X/Asylum Hybrid Workout Sheets

If you don't see one you like, let us know (or message me if you prefer not to post here) and we can come up with something that will meet your summer/work/life schedule. Time is never an excuse for not working out.

Complete first timer to beach body plans and teambeachbody forum. Saw an advert for Insanity and thought it looked like it would suit me (especially since most people think I'm bordering on Insane anyway ha ha)

Well INSANITY arrived in the post on Weds and I jumped straight in with the Fit test. I've just finished day 5 today and so far LOVING IT!

About me! 3 1/2 years ago I weight 225 pounds, and then have lost it down to my goal weight of 115lbs - but a little has crept back on (although some is down to muscle increase as measurements aren't toooo much more) and I am currently 126lb. I would like to get back down to between 115 and 119lb, but more importantly want to tone up, increase core strength and upper body strength - hopefully to help me perform better in my running. I have just completed my 2nd marathon 3 weeks ago (in 3hrs 24) and am feeling stronger and ready to improve my speed over shorter distances! Hoping Insanity can help get my a little more "Ripped" and of course work alongside my running program for maximum results and SPEED!

I am also a fitness instructor, and just started my own diet and fitness business a few months ago called Why Weight Ireland (I am in Ireland not the US)

Looking forward to sharing the updates! Will be getting up early in the morning tomorrow for another workout before the kids get out of bed! (I'm not sure which is crazier......the fact I'm getting up in the morning before the kids to do Insanity.....or the fact that I'm actually looking forward to it!!!)

Glad you made it to the thread -- so glad you are here. That first week is a beast -- way to go! A key ingredient to success is support -- and you have found a group of likeminded people to support you on your journey. You've already done so much! Can't wait to see where you go next!

Dig Deeper!!!

Report Post Report Post
@Coach MLT - LOL! I truly see you are a fan of the hybrids! Can't wait to hear about your progress, especially with pairing it up with Asylum. Thanks for sharing those links :-)

@Hannah - you aren't Insane, you are just totally AMAZING! WOW! Such an amazing accomplishment! You have nothing but respect from me ;-) I am finishing Insanity up and I think you will enjoy it. It most certainly is a challenge, but seeing what you have done, there is NO CHALLENGE too big for you. One of my favorite ShaunT quotes is "I'm going to kick your butt today and I'm not playing!" LOL!

And considering his track background and many track drills involved in the program, I'm sure you will see an improvement in your running.

I look forward to your posts :-)

shakeology results and recovery formula beachbody supplements whey powder
6/11/12 10:10 AM as a reply to athletelegs.
@athletelegs -- that is by far my FAVORITE Shaun T quote! This is your last week. You best be diggin' deep!

@Hannah -- hope your morning plyo workout went well. I have no doubt that you left nothing in the tank.

I know some of us are finishing up a particular program or just starting another. A key ingredient for many is supplements. Here's some general information you may find useful as you get ready to start your program or to bring your current one to a new level:

Additional Nutritional Supplements

Shakeology: ‘The Healthiest Meal of the Day’. One glass a day of this delivers ultra-premium nutrition and contains numerous super foods. Replace one meal a day with Shakeology to increase energy, reduce cravings, lose weight, and improve digestion. It’s only 150 calories and tastes great. Flavors include Chocolate, Strawberry and Greenberry. There are many recipes out there as well to change things up. Interested in trying this? Message me and we can talk about sending you a free sample.

Whey Protein: You may find that you may need to add this supplement in order to get the protein you need in some of the phases in the P90X nutrition. Whey protein use is helpful before and after exercise to help refuel recovering muscles. This can be purchased through Beachbody or at numerous retailers. I personally have found whey to be a critical part of my fitness program as it enables me to hit my protein ratios. Protein is KEY to building lean muscle. Without it, getting those tones arms/legs or that 6-pack is very difficult.

Recovery drink: Tony and Shaun T talk about this constantly. It really is an important part of your post workout nutrition. It provides the carbs and protein your body needs for recovery. It will help to eliminate soreness and muscle fatigue. Make sure the carb:protein ratio is 4:1 like the P90X Results and Recovery Formula.

The R&R drink can be critical in managing the dreaded DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness... you know, the crazy aches you feel after the first couple of times you do a new workout). The 4:1 ratio helps your body rebuild the muscle that has been broken down more quickly and helps eliminate the muscle soreness faster.

What other supplements do you use and what do you like about them? Love to hear from you.
For those that are readingg the thread, we hope you jump in. The more the better!

Make all workouts today the best you can.

As Shaun T said, "New day. New week. New beginning. New opportunity. Utilize this day for positivity. Dig deep!"

Time to starting thinking about GOALS for this round...

Come Day 1 you'll want to know which way to go. When in doubt, 3 concrete, specific goals. One short term (within 30 days), one medium term (by the end of this fitness round), and one long term (3-6 months).

You can always have more, but you don't know where you're going if you don't take the time to set a course.
Report Post Report Post
Goals are a great idea! I will have a think about my specific goals!

Well today went well.......I got to the end and wow, my legs just would not budge any more lol, absolutely NOTHING left to give! I think its just the in and out and ski abs bit at the end, find it tough as my upper body strength is ZERO. My knees were also giving up on me too lol. All in a good days work though!

After a little break and recovery I went to stretch my legs with a little run, 3 miles. Felt tough after the hard work out but also felt good. Feel like the insanity workouts are definitely going to help the strength in my legs! I'll start off as a marathon runner and end up as a sprinter ha ha.

Right I'd better get to bed, almost midnight here and have a personal training client in the morning.....followed by INSANITY!!! AHHHHH
Report Post Report Post
Yuppers! I've been thinking about those goals. So excited to get back to weight training. I did an ole fashioned crossfit workout on Friday (which included pull-ups, but for me assisted) and my lats STILL hurt. Hahaha! Trying to get past the "sore" phase for my upper body before P90X begins.

As far as current supplements, my regimen includes Creatine Ethyl Ester (doesn't bloat), BCAAs, and Protein. Taking this combo for the past few years has really aided in me keeping muscle on, because, since I dance as well, that amount of cardio with my workouts was eating away my muscle (lost 4lbs of muscle in 6 weeks!!) Once I up'd my protein intake and added the supplements above, I lost only fat and gained muscle. HUGE RELIEF!

I'm sooo ready for this last week to be over. LOL! Just want to put my seal of completion on Insanity.....still have my workout to do this evening. Including today, 4 more day....
Report Post Report Post
WOW! @HannahSpanner -- you killed it today and left nothing in the tank. That's the definition of DIG DEEP! Those plank moves are tough, but I have no doubt that in time you'll be putting Tanya to shame. emoticon

@athletelegs: the finish line is in sight! Get ready to send in your pics and get your shirt my friend. You will have EARNED IT!

A little love for the Insanity folks out there, you know this is true:

Can't wait to see what you guys bring tomorrow!!!!
Report Post Report Post
Hey there Coach!! Wanted to stop by and check out your thread!! I know your going to rock it! You are definitely going to show everybody how to Keep Pushing Play, Dig Deep & Bring It!!! You're definitely making EHF proud!!
Report Post Report Post
Thanks for the love @CoachCottyMo. I love my Elite Home Fitness team!!! I am so glad that we have you guys here on the boards. So much inspiration to share!

My check in for the day: X2 chest, shoulders and tri's + ARX2 in the books. There was some shrapnel afterwards. emoticon I think I had most every type of equipment out that I own. I LOVE this workout!! I went up in reps on most pushups and maintained or went up in weight/reps on the weight bearing exercises. Whoo hoooo!!! Killing' Tuesday!

I'm working on my goals and will post later.

For those of you getting ready to push play this week or next on a NEW program or maybe one you haven't done in awhile, today is a good time to start reviewing the workouts in advance. Each workout has its own pace and routines. You will find them easier to do if you have already previewed them. Make notes on your workout sheets in advance about what equipment you'll need and any specific information that you know will help you when you PUSH PLAY!!!

Hey Coach MLT, I sent an email requesting you to be my Coach. I'm looking forward to today's Recovery and Mobility Video (X2). Yesterday's Plyocide left me starving all night and pretty stiff today. It was a great workout!

Report Post Report Post
@Dana233 -- Enjoy that Recovery + Mobility Video today. I may join you and do it myself tonight. My arms are all floppy and tired from VSculpt and CST. Nothing like a good foam roll to loosen you up. emoticon

I am so glad you've joined my team! I will send you an email and we can make sure you're all set for the remainder of your X2 program and beyond!

And welcome to the thread! I know that you'll get lots of support here, but you'll also be able to share your experiences to help all of us reach higher and further.
