The keys to a healthy attitude include paying attention to what you feed your mind, your body, and working under the principle of balance.

This is a thread based on PRINCIPLES that you can latch on to to improve your quality of life.

"Measure that which you wish to improve."

Cat Principle #2 --
YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW

This one comes in many forms, like "What goes around comes around" and "You get what you give" and my personal favorite (from my Grandpa, which was in German) "What you shout into the forest, the forest shouts back."

Knowing that you reap what you sow, consider this:

  • If you have lots of good seed, plant LOTS!
  • Plant it in good spots!!!
  • If you see something growing, give it some time to figure out if it is a weed or not
  • Weed regularly!
  • Nurture, prune, water and fertilize the good stuff!
  • Other gardeners can teach you!!!
  • Seeds multiply AND they grow wihtout your constant attention, but NOT IN THE PACKET--YOU HAVE TO PLANT THEM!!!

quote:
“Think twice before you speak, because your words and influence will plant the seed of either success or failure in the mind of another.”
-- Napoleon Hill

Thank for visiting!

Cat Principle #3 - Move TOWARDS GOOD

I have found for myself that if I concentrate on GOING TO the good foods,
I don't have concentrate on STAYING AWAY FROM the bad foods.
Works the same with good people vs. bad people.
You get your fill of the good and have no time/energy for the bad. And with activities.... Reading, TV, etc.

"TOWARDS" is a DEFINITE DIRECTION, it has a DESTINATION, an AIM. emoticon
"AWAY FROM" has no definite aim, it has an infinite number of (unfocused, indefinite, obscure) destinations.
emoticon

MOVE TOWARDS GOOD!!!

quote:
“I don't run away from a challenge because I am afraid. Instead, I run toward it because the only way to escape fear is to trample it beneath your feet.”
-- Nadia Comaneci

“You will always move toward anyone who increases you and away from anyone who makes you less.”
-- Mike Murdock

Cat Principle #4 - Find the Vein!

No, this is not a lesson in phlebotomy. (phle·bot·o·my (fl?-b?t'?-me)
n. The act or practice of opening a vein by incision or puncture to remove blood. Also called venesection, venotomy.)

It's a lesson for for "miners."
When miners find a vein of gold, they are able to follow it and it leads them to more gold.
Good people lead you to more good people.
Like attracts like.

It works the same with thoughts. Good thoughts come in clusters. They travel in packs.
Tap into a group of them.

For instance, when you find something you like on the web, search similar thoughts, and links from there. You will find the vein!!!

Here's the ultimate--good people usually have good thoughts. So, good people with good thoughts travel in packs, too.

Find the vein!!!

quote:
“May all our energies become one and may all the good thoughts come together and may we become the mightiest amongst the mighty.”
-- Rig Veda

“The more man meditates upon good thoughts, the better will be his world and the world at large.”
-- Confucius

Trainman--Welcome! I have heard praises of you too! To commemorate your visit,
Cat Principle #5 Don't Run with Scissors -- Jog

You know, nobody actually runs with scissors. Not often, anyway. Nobody should be smoking in bed, either. Yet, we do so many things that we shouldn't, like overeating, underexercising, and feeding ourselves with bad thoughts. What's up with this?
Why do we like playing with fire? Why do we tolerate burns that don't show? Why do we fire bullets that we end up having to dodge? What is with all these rhetorical questions? emoticon

“The moment somebody says 'this is very risky' is the moment it becomes attractive to me.”

Angelo!
The bottom of my signature is dedicated to you emoticon
I call it my ASCI ticker.
Thank you for checking out Cattitude!

Also dedicated to you,

Cat Principle #6 Most valuable things take some time to achieve.

Some call this The Law of the Farm. A farmer cannot put off his planting, and then expect to "cram" and do his whole crop in one "all nighter." Similarly, you can't expect to get fit overnight, nor would you want to. If we could, everyone would be working out 24/7 in the days before the swimming pool opens, the days before that big social event, or the days after the doctor (or their significant other) told them they have to lose some weight. You think repetitive strain injuries are a problem now??

Just beware any quick fixes.
Incidentally, long term change also develops positive habits, discipline and confidence. Positive habits, discipline and confidence are tools that can be applied in other areas....

Remember, from an earlier lesson, it's not what you get, it's what you become that matters....

quote:
“There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.”
Beverly Sills

“Champions know there are no shortcuts to the top. They climb the mountain one step at a time. They have no use for helicopters!”
Judi Adler

Deadhead/Karen,
Thank you! [Cat blushes]
And thank you for visiting!

As a momento of your visit,
Cat Principle #7 Everything in Moderation

Everything in moderation--even moderation should be practiced in moderation sometimes, just to shake it up a bit. Then, you can say, some is good, more is better, too much is just right.
Too much of anything is not good, if only for the fact that you will lose your taste for it.
Balance and moderation are closely related subjects!!

quote:
“Out of moderation a pure happiness springs.”
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

“Personally I'm quite jovial with not much worry. I do my best, which is moderation, and failure doesn't matter.”
Tenzin Gyatso, The 14th Dalai Lama

To remember your visit,
Cat Principle #8 Attitude is Contagious

Attitudes can be passed on. You can ask yourself, "Is mine worth catching??"

quote:
“Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.”
Lou Holtz

“The problem is not the problem; the problem is your attitude about the problem”
Unknow

“Our attitude toward life determines life's attitude towards us.”

KBTX -- Welcome!!!
I'm glad you visited!!! And thanks for posting. emoticon

For you,
Cat Principle #9 We are Creatures of Habit

We are creatures of habit.
This can be good and bad, depending how you use it.

  • The more positive habits you can develop, the better.
  • Good habits can displace bad habits
  • Habits come from our thoughts
  • Our thought patterns themselves are habits
  • SOOOOO, think about how you are thinking about your thinking emoticon

quote:
“Habits are first cobwebs, then cables.”
Spanish Proverb

“Habit is a cable; we weave a thread of it every day, and at last we cannot break it”
Horace Mann

“The chains of habit are too weak to be felt until they are too strong to be broken”
Samuel Johnson
