Hey Everyone!

We’re changing our Message Boards and launching a new Team Beachbody site. If you EVER use the boards, go to this link and re-register. If you do they’ll remain free forever. If not, you may need to join TBB to use the boards.

The new TBB site is going to be outstanding. Make sure and check it out. That’s the main news for this week. Oh, wait, no it’s not. Make sure and check out Denis’ article today called the End of Overeating. It’s a lot more than a book review:

http://www.beachbody.com/produ...ters/359.do#article2

We’ll start with the bag with some fan mail:

I just read that great article and was amazed by the part about the chemicals produced in our brains. Love the picture right next to that part of the big guy looking into the fridge. I’m one of those females who weigh nearly 160 and should weigh 130. Thank you for the knowledge and inspiration to change the way I think about food. Knowledge is power if we put it to proper use. I commit to change my ways for the rest of my life. Most articles I read and exercise video packs I buy don’t say anything new. The factor that is most important is what we personally bring to it. Do we bring our bodies under the discipline of our mind given the knowledge that we have? Do we make meal plans and stick to it? Do we set guidelines for ourselves and stick to it? Do we set goals for ourselves and do what it takes to reach them? Our personal thoughts and action is the factor that makes the difference between success and failure in losing weight and living a healthier life.

To a life of health and happiness for all who seek and pursue it,
Christine?

Now on to some questions about my article on fasting:

Hi Steve,

I got really thirsty doing the 2-day fast start. All I drank was the shake. Was I supposed to drink water?

Geralyn

================================

Yes, absolutely. You can live a long long time without food but only a few days without liquid. It’s very important to drink water when fasting. Most fasts recommend something like lemon or other things in your water as well. Staying hydrated is a huge part of the fasting equation.

================================

Hi Steve,

I had a question about fasting (I just read this week’s article for the newsletter).

I have always avoided fasts because of something that happened to my friend in college. He did a self-imposed 3-day fast, and while at the time all seemed to be fine, about a week later he was in the emergency room with a kidney stone so bad he threw up in the waiting room from the pain.

Was that just a bad coincidence? Since his episode—and he’s an extremely healthy person normally—I’ve always associated fasts with opening the door to a kidney stone or some other unwelcome outcome. I’ve never fasted in my life (intentionally), and while I’d like to try it, I’m worried about it being more trouble than it’s worth.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Dan

Again on the hydration. While fasting is very healing for the kidneys if you fast while you’re not hydrated it can cause problems because the toxins you’re flushing travel through the kidneys. Random fasting (sans any sort of plan) should probably rarely exceed one day.

==================================

Hello,

At the very bottom of this article you mentioned that “Consistent and intense exercise keeps your hormones working in balance and your body on an even keel.” It caught my attention and made me wonder something. I’ve been doing P90X for 8 days now. I am a 35 year old female and weigh 125 pounds. I am of a slender build but haven’t been in shape in years. So this program is jump starting me into a healthier lifestyle. However, I’ve noticed that I’ve been very emotional and edgy lately and that my libido is way down. I’ve been snapping at my children, crying at commercials on TV, and avoiding my husband in the bedroom. All of these things are quite out of the ordinary for me. It kind of sounds like PMS, but the timing is not right. Could the sudden changes in my diet and this exercise program have such an effect on my hormones to make me behave this way? Has anyone else ever complained of these things ? I do not feel like my “hormones are working in balance”. I feel like they’ve been kicked out of whack! I’m afraid this will go on for the entire 90 days. I hope not.

Thank you.

===============================

These types of mood swings are common when you begin almost any new endeavor, but especially a rigorous physical one. You adapt pretty quickly, so I wouldn’t worry. You’re just in a state of breakdown. After my ultra-adventures, like birthday challenges, I’m often kind of a mess for months. I’ve gotten to where I kind of enjoy the journey.

Keep in mind that eating and sleeping are you biggest allies. That is how you recover quickly. The better you eat and the more you’re able to sleep the quicker your body will adjust. And when it gets back to normal, it will be better than normal, so hang in there!

I was reading this article and read the difference between power 90 and p90x and I'm thinking I purchased the wrong program. I am turning 40 this year and I have been overweight by 80 pounds for a long time I am far from being fit, I have changed my eating lifestyle but wanted
to get fit I purchased p90x without reading the difference between the programs. Now I'm worried that I purchased an advanced program I won’t be able to do at all cause I wont be able to keep up with.

No problem. We have 30-day return policy so if X is too much just swap it out. Or stay positive and keep it and also order Power 90 because you know you’ll be doing it soon.

I always recommend starting too easy rather than too hard. Power 90 will be challenging. Since you already have X, I would suggest ordering Power 90 and trying both just to see. Then you can send back the one you don’t want. Or not.

Have fun! It’s going to be a great ride.

I just read the article on fasting. It was just great. Informational without all of the “drama”. There were some very important facts and tips for anyone that wants to undergo a fast. I have been doing the master cleanse fast once a year for 5 years and have learned along the way things that were portrayed in this article. I wish this article would have been around when I did my first fast.

Thanks, Paula. It probably was. I’ve written on fasting for years. Better late than never. Glad you’ve found us now. Okay, better get back to getting ready for our site switch. Next week will probably be busy, so you may not get another bag til the following week. I’ve got some cool questions to answer, but keep sending ‘em.

Don’t just train hard, train smart!

Steve
