THE SOUL OF P90X & BB
3/28/09 5:49 PM
We're all on a journey . . . a journey of self-realization, a journey of truth, and even a journey to re-claim what has always been ours, our bodies. We look in the mirror and there's this physical transformation occurring daily, but how often do we look inside to see the inner transformation that's also occurring?

This thread is dedicated to sharing our inner transformations and how, when we commit to one of the BB programs, we're making a conscious commitment to our bodies, but an even greater commitment to our souls.

Come share this magnificent journey with me.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? . . .And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Marianne Williamson

My belief is that each of us has a magnificent story to share. With each story comes a lesson of learning, of growth, and ultimately, our willingness to trust that the Universe, when we are ready, will bring to us all that we need to move forward on our journey.

My belief is that each of us has a magnificent story to share. With each story comes a lesson of learning, of growth, and ultimately, our willingness to trust that the Universe, when we are ready, will bring to us all that we need to move forward on our journey.

Taking my own leap of faith right here and now, I'm going to start off by sharing a portion of my story with you.

Again, I ask that you grab my hand and take a step with me on the journey. We all have discoveries to make, lessons and growth before us . . . why not do it together?

I would like to share a portion of my story with you.

. . .whatever we choose to do in life whether it’s positive, negative or indifferent, we ultimately make a conscious decision. Yet, decisions and choices, for me, are frightening. Stepping into the unknown, taking a leap of faith, or simply putting it in the hands of the Universe was beyond the realm of the world I had created, but for some reason, when I saw the P90X infomercial, the changes were already occurring without my even being aware of it. The subconscious is amazing.

I have completed 4 Rounds of the X with results, I believe, are humbling. Oh yes, there’s been a physical transformation, but it’s the growth of the soul that I consider to be the true spirit of a P90X transformation. In this past year, I have put every ounce of my being into this program, testing my endurance, my strength and my will. Has it been easy? Absolutely not. Has it been worth it? Without a doubt, yes. The more I began to indulge myself in the X, the more I began to indulge in life. I began taking baby steps, and, at the Universe’s calling, I decided to take a leap of faith. You see, my soul was awakening from it’s dormant state. I was now able to see beyond my emotional struggles, and the four walls of the house that I had imprisoned myself in. Of course, that’s not to say this journey has not been without physical as well as emotional pain. The physical pain has always been bearable, but the emotional, has, and continues to be difficult. You see, close to the end of my third Round, my significant other and I suffered deep grief. We were preparing to take in a 16 month old baby boy who had lived his entire life in a local children’s hospital, but was soon to be discharged. Although he would still require constant medical assistance at home, we knew, above all else, we could offer him love. My significant other met him when they began volunteering at the hospital. They formed a tremendous bond and when I met him, the love was instantaneous. I would visit him with my significant other and the bond that he and I shared was a beautiful miracle. While at his bedside, I taught him paddy-cakes, and, he loved to watch me do moves from the X, always clapping after I finished. My significant other would tell him that someday he would do the X with me. After we talked for weeks, and through many discussions with social workers, his biological mother (who lived out of the country and was unable to care for him) as well as attorneys, my significant other was set to become his legal guardian. We finished his room on a Sunday, and the paperwork was going to be signed the following week. But, two days after finishing his room, on Tuesday, he passed unexpectedly. This was two days before Thanksgiving, 2008. He had a wonderful prognosis, and the doctors had pointed out that he had made remarkable progress since my partner began working with him. I was so profoundly affected by this baby boy. For the first time in my life, I felt hope. Forty-four years old, and feeling hope. Isn’t that amazing? Between the X and this baby boy, I felt as though my journey’s path was becoming clear.

After the loss, I wanted to give up on the X, because quite frankly, I was ready to give up on life. I could not bear the thought of life without him. I continued to workout, but my heart was not in it. Each move was mechanical, and it was more a matter of simply getting through the workout, than actually getting results. But, one day I put some pictures of the beautiful baby boy next to the television and when I looked at him, I knew what I needed to do, and what he would want me to do. “Mommy, bring it.” No, my significant other and I were not his biological parents, but, in our hearts, and we knew in his heart, we were indeed. His angel whispers have gently pushed me forward,

Yes, I still struggle emotionally, but I am trusting the Universe will continue to guide me . . .

There, I did it . . . I took a leap of faith!!! Now it's your turn.

On a side note, a very special thank you goes out to TF, for whom my soul sings. Thank you for being my C@ach, but for being also my dear friend. The journey has been amazing and I know there's more wonderful steps to take.

Tami & Mike -

Thank you so much for being the first to post on my thread. Thank you too for all the encouragement and for believing in me.

I know I have very big footsteps to follow in, but it's time for me to pay it forward. (Okay Tami, so it's just a figure of speech, as I know you have petite feet, yet, a very big heart!)

Nice to meet you Kathryn and thank so much for sharing your story. You, not only were sent by a higher power to him but he was sent to you and your significant other as a blessing. This has definitely made you stronger and I am sure he is clapping everytime you push play. Way to take what life throws at you, and still, break boundaries. Hope to hear more about you journey.

“Love yourself—accept yourself—forgive yourself—and be good to yourself, because without you the rest of us are without a source of many wonderful things.”Leo Buscaglia

Good Morning.

Kim, thank you for taking the time to read my introduction and for posting. I completely agree with you . . .and I do believe in life, everything has purpose and meaning. I am truly grateful for the time I shared with him, yet there's this little selfish part of me that wishes with all my heart he were still with us. He was and will continue to be an inspiration to me - since moving on to Chalean for a Round or Two, I need it!!! That gal is one tough cookie!!

Tami, goodness, I awoke this morning a bit overwhelmed . . . it's the beginning of a brand new step on my journey and I'm sooo excited!! And yes, I'll get hooked up to Skype so we can cling our coffee cups in celebrationemoticon

I wish each of you a beautiful day. Get inspired. Inspire someone else. Take a step forward on your journey . . . all it takes is that first step . . . the Universe has opened its doors to you. Are you going to pass up the opportunity?

Kathryn - It is my pleasure to meet you! I can see from your story that you are an awesome person and it is a pleasure to write to you.

Your P90X results are terrific. I want thighs like you!

Your story touched my heart. My husband and I have two children of our own and raised his nephews from the time they were 9 & 10 until they graduated from high school. In our eyes they are our own! In my kids eyes they are brothers not cousins. God is so awesome in all that He does and the way He touches us and uses us. I believe He led me to the people here on BB and I believe my life has taken the path it has for His purpose. You will touch so many people with your thread! I'm excited to share this journey with you! emoticon

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” Leo Buscaglia

So who did you inspire yesterday, and will there be someone today? Each time we inspire someone, we pay it forward in the most marvelous way. Wishing someone a beautiful day, a fantastic workout, or making eye contact with the cashier at the grocery store, can make all the difference in that person's day. Go out and inspire.

And, speaking of inspiring . . .

Deanna Carol, your words have inspired me on this Monday morning . . . I tip my hat off to you and your husband for taking in your husband's nephews. Your selfless act has, I am certain, changed the lives of those two boys and just as they are blessed to have you, you too are blessed to share your life lessons with them and nurture them as loving parents do. And, I agree with you. We're all led to BB for one reason or another, and having been a lurker for over a year, I felt it was time to take that leap of faith, and hopefully inspire and assist others on their BB journey however I'm able.

Hope you stop by again. BTW, what program are currently using?

Sweet Tami, an angel of inspiration, thank you for stopping by this morning. Slept like doo-doo last night and I know it was the anxiety about seeing the ortho today. I need to remind myself to "just let it go" and pray for the very best . . . oh, and cross all my fingers and toes!!!

I love rainy days for naps . . . the tapping of the raindrops on the windows is actually very soothing to me . . . plus, what a great way to stay cozy on the couch with a blankieemoticon

To my little lurkers, and I know you're out there, just like I too was a one-time lurker, stop by, share your story, share what program your currently doing and how has the program inspired you?

Today begins week 4 of Chalean . . . I can't say enough good things about this program. Although I have a knee issue right now, I'm able to modify the moves, and, get an amazing workout. Granted, it took a few weeks to adjust from the heavy P90X lifts, but I love the intensity with lighter weights, and, I feel amazing afterwards. I can honestly say, the slower movements give me the same feeling as the X workouts . . . it's all about what you put into it.

I wish everyone a wonderful day . . . and don't forget, inspire someoneemoticon

Kathryn-
What a touching story-I am very sorry for your loss.

My mother always tells me it's not what life throws at you, but how you deal with it, because life is going to throw difficult situations at us. You are a strong, courageous woman and I hope that you continue to find the strength to press on but remember the good times you have shared with your son.

It is not everyday we hear of such amazing people. I know they are out there and that they exist-you are living proof.

God bless you and your significant other and may your journal to health be happy and gratifiying.

Setzler, thanks for stopping by. Don't be a strangeremoticon Thank you too for your inspiring words. I can assure you I'm pushing play everyday . . . BB has been a lifesaver for me and I'm eternally grateful.

Something I've learned along my journey is that what we do with our story helps to mold us into who we are today. I know for certain, had it not been for the X during my painful period, I literally may not have been here today. I comitted to the X and I was going to see it through. I'm thrilled that I did because it's given me strength and the old addage, "I want more."

Well, my friends and lurkers (and I say that with love!), I just returned from the ortho doctor. Had an MRI last week for a possible torn meniscus - ouchy. The knee injury didn't occur during training, rather, silly me, I was wearing my Crocs one night, ran out into the road as one of my kitties had been hit by a car, and boom, landed on my knee funny. I continued to work out, knowing my limitations, and did lots of modifying, and today, when I went for the results, no torn meniscus - JOY!!! The doctor took lots of fluid off my knee and I received a cortisone injection. After tomorrow, I have no real limitations, rather what my knee is capable of handling. Now, if I could do cartwheels right now I would, but I need to keep that cortisone localized!! The doctor told me that he feels that because my quads/calves are so strong that they helped with the sudden impact when I ran into the road. Now, who do you suppose I have to thank for that!?!?!? P90X, of course.

It's truly a glorious day in the world of BB. Although I cannot do Chalean today, I'm right back at it tomorrow, you can count on itemoticon

Kathyrn...I am speechless. Not only your physical transformation but your sweet spirit have inspired me all over again, thank you! I am new to the Northwoods Team as well as to P90X but everyone on the thread has been wonderful, welcoming and motivating.

Your story, or a glimpse of your story, is a courageous one and I commend you for your perseverance and committment. I too have had many struggles along my "fitness" journey however, I am making this "my" time to shine...for my family and those who I might inspire. I told my husband, I'm doing this for myself so that I can help others. We can't help others until we can help ourselves. God has given me the strength and ability to make it through the first 30 days (which I'm finishing up) and I'm SO thankful for not just the workout itself but also for the encouragement I have discovered through team beachbody and the wonderful, inspiring people I've met.

Continue on...you're doing an awesome job and an awesome thing for others. Thank you again for sharing such personal life circumstances and know that God will most assuredly use them to bless others.

How wonderful to see visitors - each of you has made my dayemoticon

Kay80did, congratulations on making this your time to shine - you go girl!!! Today is all we have, so give it your best. And congrats on closing in on your first 30 days - the time flies, and with each passing day, you'll feel better and better. It's just an amazing feeling. Do keep me updated on your journey.

Deanne, thank you for stopping by. Your journey is one I've watched progress, and you're doing fantastic!! As I said in the Northwood's thread, I feel as though I know many of you! Thank you too for your kind words.

S2B, Dude, when you register yours, I'll think about registering mine - deal!?!?!? You've had one amazing transformation and you've inspired so many - keep it up. And thanks for stopping by.

Brandi J, so nice to see you here. Thank you for your lovely post and I look forward to all of us sharing our journeys.

So what program is everyone working on? As I said, I'm beginning week 4 of Chalean. Gosh, that woman is amazing. I was just telling Tami today that she's so good at reminding you to "tighten your abs," "don't lock out your knees," and it's very helpful. I'm so impressed with this workout . . . and it's not just a workout for women, again, Tami and I both agreed that one of the fellas in her DVD was struggling with a move just like the women were - it's tough, but it's fun.

I hope everyone has made it a beautiful day, pushed play and perhaps we'll see each other in WOWY tomorrow.

I was floating around and saw your post on the P90x thread and what a great transformation.

I absolutely love the introduction of your thread with Marianne's quote. I will borrow that one and place it on my affirmation sheet in my office.

As to the lost of your baby boy, blessings to you and yours as we lost our 19 yr old newphew last year. I can relate to the pain and to the lost of self as you struggle to continue on when life seems to have turned upside down. This month he would of turned 21 and next month it will be a year since his passing.

Continue to progress because those whispers are telling you to do your best and be proud. Use that pain to strengthen you in his name...

God Bless

Michelle
