Hi all it is great to have our space to communicate. Having done something wild to my back this last week I am restricting myself to daily stretches. It is working.

Let me get this started by telling about myself. So a bit about me...

I grew up in Wisconsin in very large family of 10 kids! Married my first husband and moved to Texas. Had two very large children Sarah [8lbs.1oz] and Anthony [10lbs 9ozs] emoticon. {My stomach as never been the same after Anthony! emoticon} That marriage ended in divorce.

My biggest weight challenge began during a failed, abusive 2nd marriage. To deal with the unbelievable stress from the abuse my children & I received I was put on anti-anxiety medications, anti-depressants, migraine medications, sleeping pills, etc. Unbeknownst to me at the time most of these medications caused weight gain. So began an awful cycle of lose some weight gain even more. My highest weight peaked at 212 in May 2005.

Today I am in a very calm, healthy marriage to Graham {Aussiecoach emoticon} who preaches on the Central Coast of CA. I also work as the church's part-time secretary.

I have spent the last few years, with doctors help, weaning myself from all these medications I had been on a since the early 90's. It has been very tough as my body had become very dependant on these medications and they have been a bear to get off.

However weaned off all but one of the medications, I was frustrated by my own attempts/failures to lose weight & get fit. I weighed 187 September 2006 when I discovered Turbo Jam from an infomercial on TV. I was desperate then, knowing I was turning 50 in 6 short months. That was the catalyst that sent me to order Turbo Jam. Tubo Jam looked fun and intriguing. I began to believe there was hope for me. I ordered all the Turbo Jam workouts! Every last one of them!!! emoticon

The Turbo Jam workouts provided the variety and challenge I needed to keep my commitment to becoming fit at 50. The first month was the toughest to get through. I know that I would have chosen to stay in bed if I hadn't committed to meet someone in WOWY every morning. Having success buddies has been an essential ingredient for me to keep my commitment.

I released a total of 46 pounds doing Turbo Jam!!! That added to the 25 pounds I released before starting the Turbo Jam program for a total of 71 pounds!!! I went from a size 16w pants to a size 8 pants.

As I finished up my first year of exercising, I felt strong enough to take on the added project of weaning off my last prescription medication. To be truely "fit at 50" I knew I needed to tackle this big dog. It was an anti-anxiety medication. I had tried twice unsuccessfully to get off of it before. The withdrawal side effects were too intense for me.

Now feeling the strongest I ever felt I tackled the drug once again. I still had withdrawals but not at the intensity as before. Exercise was is what made the difference!! I have been completely medication free since August 2007!!

Then in September 2007 I won $1000 in the Million Dollar Body Game! I was having a really hard time back then coming off that last medication and winning was the push I needed at that time to keep on keep on!

My Goal is release the 15 pounds I gained coming off that last medication. I am ready to release those pounds now forever and deal with my stress in healthy ways. emoticon Come Join Me!
~Anna

I ran across this on Sparkpeople and thought it was inspiring:

"Hard work spotlights the character of people: some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don't turn up at all."

- Sam Ewing, humorist

A meaningful life requires hard work

Part of being a good leader and good example is holding people accountable to their promises. To reach your goals, you need to be a strong leader of yourself. That means making sure you live up to the promises you made to yourself and to others. Your goals are important to you. They'll also require some work. If you could put one person in charge of your most personal, most precious goals, would you hire someone who looks for the easy way out or just talks a good game? Or would you entrust them to the person who willingly takes action and does whatever is needed to make it happen? You can handle the job. Prove yourself trustworthy by showing up every day with your sleeves rolled up.

Hi All!

To keep myself accountable I will post my daily workouts and food here.

Yesterday exercise and food check in:

WOWY: BIU! emoticon

Brkfst: Juice {Graham is the Juicer King emoticon} {carrots, apple, apricots, celery, broccoli, cucumber, squash} I love juice days!! I don't have to worry about getting in my veggies! emoticon
Snack: almond milk with fiber emoticon
Lunch: Salad with leftover Tofu and dry roasted edamame
Snack: Bowl of Cherries and 1/4 cup edamame
Dinner: Fresh Pineapple, Kefir, unsalted peanuts
Late night snack: Popcorn with powdered Brewer's Yeast emoticon emoticon
Approx. 1700 calories emoticon

Ok way too much food there. Really should have stopped with dinner. Didn't need to eat 3 snacks yesterday. Today will be much better!

Goal: I plan to stop eating at 7pm and only have hot tea or water.

So let's support each other here as we all work hard to reach our goals! emoticon emoticon

Hugs!

Hey Anna and Graham! I love the new thread!! I just finished a run outside in the humidity and woowee that was tough! I did have an extra burst of energy at the end and managed to pick up the pace the last ten minutes!

Anna, I love your progress photos. You are truly inspiring! I thought your eating looked very healthy even though you said too many calories, so good for you keeping it clean!!

BTW, I'm type A also...maybe I should try the BTD for a burst and see what happens? emoticon

Take care and I'll pop in sometimes if you don't mind!! emoticon

Melissa.... Thanks for stopping by and for the kind remarks!!! emoticon Come back as often as you like!! I absolutely LOVE YOU and your wonderful sense of humor! emoticon

Ugh! Humidity!! Now that is dedication. I am very proud of you!

There seems to be a lot of Blood Type A's on the boards. hmmmmmmmmm....What does this mean, if anything? emoticon

The Blood Type Diet is working great for me. I know right now you are eating for a girl! hahaha emoticon I know kefir and yogurt is on the neutral list to eat, also almonds. Let me know if you want a list of Highly Benefical Foods, Neutral Foods and Avoid Foods. Maybe you could start adding a few beneficial foods and eliminate some avoids. emoticon

BTW, that scrabble game on Facebook is become sooooo addicting.....hahaha

Hugs!

More words of wisdom from Sparkpeople!

"You must be careful how you walk and where you go, for there are those following you who will set their feet where yours are set."

Robert E. Lee, Civil War General

Be worthy of imitation

They say imitation is the greatest compliment, but are your actions worthy of imitation? We are all in some setting of leadership. Whether it be as a parent, boss, or friend we should constantly examine the example we are setting for those around us. Are you being a positive role model? Are you treating others in a dignified way? Be a cheerful and diligent worker, parent, and boss to those around you. Children, especially, are like sponges taking in your every action and word--they naturally want to be just like you. So be mindful of your word and deed, you never know who might be watching and silently learning what you are demonstrating.

Hi Melissa great to see you drop by.

Great job on the extra effort at the end of the run. The energy is the key isn't it?

I have found that doing the BTD is pretty easy, especially with Anna doing it so faithfully. I am not totally on it yet however, I am pretty close. I think when the last avoid foods are gone from the house that will be it, I will commit to 100% as I am impressed with how I feel so far.

The key to my eating at the moment is the juicing regimen that we have adopted since buying a Jack La Lanne Power Juicer.

I also maintain a regular fasting regimen. I fast 36 hours and then have two eating days. I have been influenced by Paul Bragg's book The Miracle of Fasting. I have spiritual as well as health goals tied to this practice.

For the last week I have only been doing the Power Half Hour stretches as I injured my back somehow. I think either today or tomorrow I will be back at P90 once again. I miss the sweat.

Since becoming a coach May 10th I have released 22lbs. To reach my goal I have 78.5 lbs to go. This sounds like a lot and would be a heavy sack to lift, yet when Anna first handed me P90 around July last year and said "I think you ought to do this" I have released 49.5 lbs.

Great job on the eating and workouts Anna! Wooo Hoo!

Now I have written out all the calories I eat in a day for extended periods yet these days I find I have an infallible guide to how I am doing with food and exercise: the scale.

I have read all kinds of suggestions about how to use the scale and how often to weigh yet I find I have an incredible urge to see daily what is going on.

I have gotten used to some wild fluctuations (as much as six pounds in a day) and I am aware that for some people this would just about cause them to toss in the towel. Yet I find this quite motivating to make sure I do better. I am usually quite aware of what went on that produced such a wild result. Also I am aware of the volatility of fluid retention and release.

Yet with all this it is evident that when the right food is taken in (in the right amounts) and the exercise is faithfully done the weight just lets go.

I have been down in the 250s and loved the sight of the scale sliding down. My eyes are on the 240s and I am noticing my determination increasing to be there.

I love Anna's by line of "keep pushing play and eating clean."

Hello Anna! I hope this post is working! It is really inspiring to see all the progress that you and Graham have been having. I have wondered about doing a fast once a week (combined with major prayer and meditation)--how does that affect your diet and the yo-yo stuff you (Graham) talked about? Do you completly fast or do you supp with some juices or shakes? Thought I'd ask emoticon

Hey Anna--this is so cool! I'm glad I got to stop by and now I had better get myself moving and accomplish some stuff! Love your pics--they are very motivating! Keep up the great work emoticon

Hugs, Kris

Hi Kris
The fast does not impact my eating whatsoever. Having made the commitment to do the BTD the food is determined. In fact doing the juicing really helps when I come off the fast.

As to the fasts I do now I usually begin at around 6 pm and go to 6 am the day after the following day. (Start 6 pm Monday finish 6 am Wednesday eat Wednesday and Thursday and begin again 6 pm Thursday)

Also the yo yo effect has really evened out since I have become regular at the fasting. The first two times were whacky. Usually my weight will now go down about 2.5 to 3 lb in the 36 hours. I do water only except for lunch when I eat a small Activia yogurt with some pills I am taking as part of a Detox I am currently doing. I am also doing a Cleanse which has fiber that I take in the mornings with water. If it was not for the Cleanse and Detox I would be doing water only. One guy I read (Jentezen Franklin) suggested using fiber when doing longer fasts--I am still thinking about it as it is appealing.

I am considering a longer time than the 36 hours I currently do every third day. I have already gone fasting for 48 hours and did drink some juice.

The first fast of a longer duration than 48 hours will likely be a 7 day job with fruit juices and water. I plan on doing it in the week break from the 30 day Detox I am currently doing with the Cleanse.

As to why I am fasting--I have some heavy duty issues facing us and this fasting is keeping me focused on my time with God. There is also another component that it is helping me with my weight goals and desire to be healthy--it is great seeing my blood pressure stay normal without taking lisinopril.
