Hi Everyone,
I’m off to India today for my brother’s wedding. And, while I could continue the mailbag, I’m going on hiatus through the holidays mainly because I doubt too many of you have time to read these right now anyway. It’s always interesting how fitness falls during the holidays. I chalk it up to a serendipitous recovery cycle since pretty much everyone—at least who’s ever going to—hits it hard again after the New Year. At least that’s how the world looks through my rose colored glasses. Since we all need a recovery cycle, this does seem like the best time to do it.
Apparently, we had a little glitch in last week’s delivery so, for anyone who couldn’t open it, here’s the article:
http://www.beachbody.com/product/newsletters/284.doAnd, since we still haven’t fixed all the links since we changed our server, here is our newsletter archive:
http://www.beachbody.com/category/newsletters.doLet’s get to some questions
=================================
There was a bit about Super Foods printed on this page not too long ago. One of the foods was peanuts and the article talked about peanuts helping those with CFS. I can't find that information and my mother has CFS and I would like to share the information with her. Where can I find the discussion about CFS and peanuts?
Thank you,
Natalie==============================================
Peanuts were used as an example but the point was about getting enough of the right types of fatty acids in our diets. This is vital and CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) is often linked to low-fat diets and those who don’t get enough nutrients are highly susceptible, especially many body weight obsessed athletes. While peanuts are a great source of healthy fats, so are other legumes, all nuts, avocados, and fish.
This week I discussed our new Omega-3 supplement that is fish oil. This is one of the best supplements anyone can take, particularly someone with CFS. For an in-depth look as to why, read this:
http://www.beachbody.com/product/newsletters/285.do============================================
Can I take this supplement (omega-3) with other my other supplements I take now? or does this replace them?
Thanks.
Scott===========================================
This can be taken with any other supplement and no matter what your diet consists of—though if it’s mainly fish it could be redundant. But even in excessive quantities fish oil has no downside. Some studies have found positive effects with up to 20 grams a day (20 times the average dosage).

Steve,
I have followed your articles for years now and have learned quite a bit. I find them to be very accurate and very informative. I must ask you a very important question.
Have you ever heard of Juice Plus?
When you talk about antioxidants, this definitely increases antioxidants among other things and decreases DNA damage. It has MANY research studies completed and many more under way, proving it does what it says it does. This is the only whole food product that I have ever seen that has this much research behind it.
Sincerely,
Nancy Bishop

I’ve discussed Juice Plus somewhere, perhaps the boards. Essentially it’s a fine product but it’s also not quite as over-the-top earth shattering as they claim. You can do the same thing on your own for less money. However, it is a convenient solution that can be helpful. Here’s a mailbag the discusses the pros and cons of juice and juicing:

Hi.
I liked the article about kids and exercise. I wanted to know what age range Shaun T's program is being designed for. I have an almost 13 year old, who could benefit from a program targeted to his age group.
Thank you,
Amanda===================================
13 is an acceptable age, especially if they haven’t exercised much. By 13 they are also ready to progress quickly. Most of our programs are appropriate for teenagers, who can do just about any exercise adults can do except heavy lifting—which our programs don’t have. Any body weight and below exercise is good for teenagers. Just start them slow and allow them to progress at their own level, which will probably be much faster than your progression level.

Please send me a list of fast foods that would be healthier for me to buy for children……I have several children in my neighborhood who come hang out at my house and since I am single and have no children I end up taking them out to eat and doing things like going to church, shopping, etc and I could not believe it when I read your article (I mean I do believe it ) because we eat those things a lot---please give me some suggestions ….please note I do not cook.
Thanks Cherie=========================================
This is a huge subject. You’d be much better off to find way to avoid fast foods altogether. The problem is that these restaurants all use low quality ingredients that are designed, essentially, to teach you to crave them. Kids—well, everyone but especially kids—need whole foods: whole grains, fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, etc. A steady diet of fast food is asking for health problems, no matter how well you try to keep it healthy. Here area few articles to help you out.

How about adding: "Don't Eat This Book"? Our teacher book club just read it last month. I am sharing your list with them tomorrow!
I'm trying to help our faculty become healthy and fit!
Cathy (digimom) =================================
Thanks, Cathy. It’s added. Happy reading!

Happy holidays and see you see next!
