I exercise quite a bit and would like to try this product. What's holding me back though is my perception that it's designed to have a person exercise every day, no days off. I'm concerned about not giving muscles time to recuperate and personal burn out. I've not talked with anyone about this product previously, so I'm really in the dark about what committment is required.

If it is designed for every day, will a person stick with it or will one burn out from trying to keep up with an every day routine?

thanks
Steve

Actually, it is a 6 day a week program with a rest/recovery day on your 7th....The program is also broken up in to 3 phases of 4 weeks each. Each phase provides different workout routines so that as soon as the muscles are getting used to a particular workout, BAMM, they are hit with a new set.....Muscle confusion!! The 4th week of each phase is a recovery week....Healing time....So as you can see, there is plenty of time for the body to recovery, heal and grow.....You shouldn't worry about this program...They've thought of everything.

Steve - the (classic) program is designed to work different muscle groups every day and spaced in order to give your body a chance to rest that muscle group the next day and recover. Here's phase 1:
Chest & Back
Plyo
Shoulders & Arms
Yoga
Legs & Back
Kempo
Rest Day/Stretch

After doing this rotation for 3 weeks you do a recovery week with Yoga, Cardio, Core, and Kempo then hit a different rotation (different upper body workouts but same cardio and legs) in the same order for three weeks before the 2nd recovery week.

You'll be sore but it'll be a "good sore." Also if you're truely concerned about working out 6 days a week i do know of people that only do 4-5 days, depending on their schedule. they usually follow the same schedule but extend it so they do each rotation 3 times before hitting a recovery week or rotation. this takes longer than 90 days but it's can still work.

As Rob just told you, the rest is built in - you have 3 resistance days (usually M/W/F), plyometrics on Tuesday, Yoga (Thursday), Kenpo Kickboxing (Saturday) and Rest or Stretch on Sunday. You do this for 3 weeks and then have a recovery week (not completely off...just no lifting...core work, yoga, kenpo, etc).

Not only would you have ample recovery, you won't get bored either! It's a great program!!

Steve, P90X is done six days a week. Every day is a different workout with different muscle groups or a stretch day, yoga day, core day, plyometrics day, etc.

I'm 57 and I am just about to finish P90X for the third time and burning out never entered my mind. I absolutely love it and will start my fourth round in mid May.

Hi hey I just started p90x last week but I cant find the fitness book that came with it so I'm trying to figure out if I do only the first six discs with a day off on the seventh day and then come back and do the other remaining 6 discs with another day off or if I do the first 6 discs for three weeks and then the other 6 on the next 3 weeks and I'm not sure if there is a recovery week involved somewhere any help in the workout layout would help me alot

If you do not have the fitness guide, make sure you're writing down and keeping track of your reps, weights you used, took breaks on the cardio days, how deep you got into your poses in yoga, etc etc.. keeping track gives you goals to hit from week to week, so you can give yourself short term as well as long term goals. Also, contact Beachbody and perhaps you can get them to send you a replacement one. Having the guide really helps keep all of your goals and workout schedule in the same book, instead of having to find that notebook day to day unless you keep it right next to your workout equipment.

Hopefully this will help you guys out. emoticon Good luck!

Steve: there you go. I personally recommend doing the X Stretch on the rest days because it'll help your muscles recover after a hard week of working out, but those are the different cycles P90X is introduced to you as when purchasing the program. The recovery weeks are indeed a week of recovery from the heavy lifting, but it's definitely not a slouch week. So there are rest days planned in, and the recoovery weeks are not as hard as the 3 weeks preceeding, but you do get your rest.

Most people begin with Classic X, and from there, the possibilities are endless. Some stick with Classic X and just build on it with heavier weights, push up stands, more pull ups, etc etc.. but some move on to Double X, or Lean. Some buy P90X+ and do a hybrid round of the two together, and some even invent different little mini-programs of their own, or move on to other programs depending on how they feel they want their fitness journey to continune.

I hope you do decide to purchase the program and see just what it can do for you. Just look on the boards here at all the success this little package in a box has brought to everyone, including myself. In my first round of P90X I lost 65 pounds that I know won't be coming back. I have more energy, I'm stronger, leaner, and I feel great every day. With this second round of the X, I'm bringing it to another level and hoping to shred the rest of these pounds off of my body so I can get the body I want and deserve for working so hard and finally deciding to do something about it.

Best of luck, and hope to see you in X land soon. brother.

Just to clarify, it is recommended to stretch on the seventh day rather than resting?
