Hi Everyone,

This week we’ll talk a bit more about our latest series of workouts, P90X Plus. First I’d like to thank everyone for supporting my birthday challenge last weekend. We had three times to normal amount of people WOWY. I hope a bunch of you won money. To read my highly esoteric account of the event, go here:

http://steveedwardschallenge2007.blogspot.com/

Every single question I received this week had to do with P90X or X Plus. Does that mean that my work your abs while holiday shopping piece sucked? I do suppose that if you’re doing the X, you won’t have to bother with trying to squeeze more exercise into your day, so this is a good sign, right?

Here’s the original article:

Can you tell me when P90x+ will be made available? I am finishing my P90x on Dec 8th and would lone to get the P90X+ workout to continue with my great progress.

P90X Plus will be available on Jan 3rd so you might want to write up one more phase of 90X. I love that we ran an article with no release date. Aren’t we a big tease!

Hello
I have been working to reduce my weight over the last two years. In the fall of 2005 I was at 300 pounds. Today I weigh 170. I want to lose another 20-30 pounds. Also I want to firm up and define my body. I have been working with weights about 2 -3 times a week for about 6 months and while I do notice a change I want more.

Will P90X work for me? I have seen the infomercial several times and am very amazed by the results. In regards to the diet. I do not eat Chicken or red meat, can I succeed by limiting sticking to a vegetarian + seafood diet? I have come a long way on this journey and am ready to make the move to the finish line. Although I now when I reach my goal it wont be the end, just a new beginning!!!

Thank you for all you do for us!! I have been a Beachbody customer for a long time. I have everything from Turbo Jam to Slim in 6.

Thank you again!!!

Sheetal Patel

===================================

First I’d like to say congratulations on your progress. You are amazing!

Not just anyone can do the X. There is a fit test that we recommend you take to see if you’re ready, which is on the P90X site. However, if you’ve done TJ and completed Slim in 6 you are ready to give the X a shot. While it’s much harder than any of our other programs, it’s still somewhat variable and has modified sequences you can use if you can’t do all of the movements. So go for it.

==============================

Hey Guys,

You all have really developed something in the fitness world that works...long term. I can attest to that. I'm 63 years old. I have been fairly athletic most of my life. I played football and have a few pains as a result of that.

I bought a Power90 program about 3 years ago and it really worked. I wish I had taken pictures in order to prove that for you but it really works.

This last year I've been off and on with the exercise...bad knee and all but I feel some determination coming on again and I would like to ask a question. What you recommend I do?

Would it be better for me to stick with Power90 or go to P90X or P90X+? I haven't used either of the last two as yet and they really sound exciting. Then again I wonder if I'm too old for the more rigorous challenges? My health is good and I'm pretty fit. What do you think?

Also, I'd like you to consider encouraging the "baby boomer" group and older even. There's a huge market of us out there who can still benefit a great deal from what you have to offer. Have you studied the ability of the 60-70+ year old body to respond to the Power 90 programs?

This is a long email but thanks for helping.

Mike

=============================

Way to go, Mike! While we haven’t technically “studied” it, we also have a number of baby boomers in our test groups and their results mirror everyone else. So, yes, at 60 or 70 your body still responds to exercise the same way is does when you’re younger.

You do, however, have more considerations than the younger generation. You aren’t as elastic, resilient, and you recover slower than you did when you were younger. For this reason, you should use a bit more caution about what you do athletically.

I won’t say that you shouldn’t try P90X. I plan to still be doing it when I’m your age. However, I would suggest that you earn it and not just jump in. I would first do a round of P90, since you already have it. At this point you could jump in if you felt very fit and strong and ready for more—because the X is a lot more. Or you could transition further by trying P90 Masters Series, which we affectionately call “X Light”.

Whatever you do, use caution, but do continue to exercise. The older you are the MORE your body needs to exercise.

How do I find out what the PX90 diet is? It talks about three stages and I’ve not yet gotten to the PX90 phase, but it wouldn’t hurt to have the nutritional recommendations prior to this next level.

Can you help me?

Wendy Houston

======================

I can’t give you the X diet because it’s a fairly extensive diet booklet. However, it is an extension of all of our diets. The only difference is that it has more detail and, in its final phase, is a full blown athletic diet that far more carb heavy than our intro diets. It’s not a weight loss diet but a performance diet.

But all of our diet plans are similar in that the goal is to learn to eat more natural foods, eat portions that mirror your activity level, the find the point where you are eating the right amounts of proteins, fats, and carbs for your lifestyle—because what you do changes the percentages of nutrients you eat.

You could use any of our diets to mirror the X but following this pattern:

First, eliminate starchy carbs from your diet until you run out of energy. Then add them back in until you are just eating enough to fuel your workouts. Once your fitness is peaking and you feel you need a further boost, try adding more carbs. As a ballpark figure, an fairly sedentary person or someone trying to lose weight should eat around 40% carbs and 30% fats and proteins. And athletic person may eat up to 60-65% carbs, depending on how active they are. Eating less than 40% carbs is for overweight people only and should only be done in the early stages of an exercise program until your stored body fat is no longer enough to fuel your workouts.

Hi.
I am a P90 and P90X grad. I know the X was far more demanding in
every way compared to the original P90, especially in the amount of
time necessary to complete an exercise routine. In your article, you
mentioned that XPlus organized its workouts in a more efficient way.
Does this mean the length of workouts is shorter? If so, how much? I
am interested in this issue since a drawback of P90X program was the
length of a workout. I usually cut them short because I couldn't fit
in a 75 or 90 minute workout into my daily routine.

Keep up the good work in your efforts to create a healthy world!

Yes, X Plus workouts are shorter. They are each about 45 minutes. Keep in mind, however, that the intensity per minute is higher the P90X so you want to be ready for them.

Hi,
I do have a question. i have been doing the power 90 series since June. about six weeks in i started over and on alternate weeks did the yoga and or fat burning video in addition to whatever power 90 video I needed to do that day. i have been on a low carb diet since i started over and have lost 35 pounds. but i am ready for something else. I have considered the power half hour, to use in addition to power 90. i am looking at the power 90 master series. I am a little afraid of p90x. although watching that infomercial led me to your web site and power 90. I agree with the concept of muscle confusion but am intimidated by the intensity.

My question is the master power 90 series more of the same just a little longer or is it a little different? And would the power half hour be an effective second that I could do each day?

If it helps to know, i am a 43 year old woman, mother of 3, and I exercise in the morning from 4:30am -6am.

Thanks for your help.

Gertrude

Similar to Mike above, it’s an individual thing. In no way does your age preclude you from the X. Most of our trainers, including Tony, are older than you. If you feel ready give it a shot. However, both PHH and MS are great transitions and will not waste your time. Those are highly effective workouts also. So if you feel intimidated than by all means go slow. The X will still be there when you’re ready.

===============================

I have been doing power 90 on and off for a few months (I am in average shape) and I was going to ask my wife for power 90X for Christmas. I probably will not buy another work-out program after this upcoming purchase. Would you recommend getting the power 90X or the new power 90 plus if you could only buy one of the programs. I appreciate your feedback.

Thanks. .
Joshua Leathersich

===================

If you were only going to get one I would recommend P90X. It’s more thorough, mainly because it has many more workouts. I don’t know that I’d define my upcoming plans for exercise just yet. There’s always room for something new. But if I could only own one workout program for the rest of my life, it would be P90X.

=============================

I’m ready for the plus!!! Put me on the list and get it to me ASAP!!!!

My wife and I have been doing P90X for 8 months. I am 45 (going on 46 as Tony says) and my wife is 44. We have both seen great results! I really believe that I am in the best shape of my life. We’ve always worked out – it’s just that I’ve never seen the results that I was able to achieve with P90X. However, I have been concerned over the past 2-3 months about “muscle confusion” and questioning “plateauing” with P90X. Thanks for coming out with something new! I’ll look for another new release in 6 months!!

There’s no question here but I like Mark’s enthusiasm. Keep it up!

=========================

Hello,

I just signed up, and would like to know how I can order your product. I live in Germany, is there any possibility for me?

Alexander Rogers

=========================

International customers can email international@beachbody.com for a quote (usually $50 more in S&H) and then order. DVDs made prior to 2007 are region free, but everything released this year (Hip Hop Abs, Slim Series Expres, etc.) is region 1 coded so they would need a region free player.

Good luck!

Until next time, don’t just train hard, train smart!

Steve
