ROUND 3 P90X HYBRID COMPLETE!! UPDATE PICS BELOW - BULKING PHASE!!

Are you doing P90X Classic / Lean, P90X+, One-on-One, INSANITY, ChaLEAN Extreme, cardio, free weights??

Join the Team! Team unity with the P90X EXTREME wristband!!

Post-Round 2-P90X:
I'm in the process of developing my own P90X hybrid program to implement free weights to further build lean muscle in Round 3. I am a member of TEAM BRAWNY.

P90X ROUND 2 COMPLETE !! MY TRANSFORMATION STORY IS BELOW.
Thank you to everyone for providing me the daily motivation and accountability to BRING IT!

Round 2 Supplements:
Superpump 250
Creatine (Phase 1 and Phase 2)
Whey Protein
Glutamine
Fish Oil
Multivitamin
Recovery Formula

Round 2 Additional Equipment:
20-lb Weighted Vest
Adjustable Push-up Bars
3-lb Weighted Gloves (1.5lb each hand)
10-lb Ankle Weights

Round 2 Workouts:
Hybrid - P90X, P90X+, One-on-One 30-15 Upper Body Massacre, Just Arms and Road Warrior

My goals at the beginning of Round 2 were the following...
"
1) Finish Round 2 strong
2) Post every day for accountability with pics at 30, 60 and 90 days
3) 40 unassisted wide-front pullups full extension (this will be a challenge, >35 would be a success)
4) Six-pack abs without counting calories
"
Round 2 Results:
1) Done
2) Done, Derek's thread (DW710)
3) High was 32, then suffered a shoulder injury from a questionable massage in Mexico. I have since recovered and am up to 31 w/o creatine. No doubt I can get to 35 post-P90X, especially if I supplement with creatine and do 30-15 UBM weekly. The 20-lb weighted vest helped me improve pullup performance this round.
4) Done. Technically I appear to have 5-pack abs. What's up with that? If a sixth can was there I would be good to go. I did not count calories during Rounds 1 and 2 nor follow the nutrition plan, although I followed the concepts in the guide to make better choices. However, I recommend following the nutrition plan and tracking calories to get the most out of the program. I was on the road for 63 days of the 180.

Summary:
P90X Day 180 progression pics provided below. Day 1 Round 1 I was 20lbs overweight and too embarrased to take pics. What a mistake. People, take your Day 1 pics! I am very pleased with my results from 180 days of P90X. I used Round 1 and part of Round 2 to lean out to my desired level of body fat, from 23% down to approx. 7%, and then the remainder of Round 2 to begin building lean muscle. The pictures show the progression in muscle development most evident during Phase 3. I am MUCH stronger than pre-P90X, benching 80-lb dumbbells 6 reps the final week of Round 2 (w/o creatine). Not bad at my current weight of 140lbs.

Advice:
I believe the key to the program and success in many aspects of life is CONSISTENCY... bring it every day and you WILL see results. Even if you are not motivated, press play and you will not be disappointed with the P90X program.

More pics to come every 30 days of my new hybrid...just check out my profile for more information.

So... here is my story. Just a normal guy really with so much in common with many of those reading this post. Growing up I was considered a hardgainer forcing myself to eat multiple times a day just to maintain my weight… I was 100 pounds in my senior year of high school! Yeah, I was scrawny. I was then recruited to play sports in college and continued the hardgainer lifestyle from intense training year-round. That was until I tore the ACL in my knee during a game, requiring patella tendon reconstructive surgery. My once active lifestyle slowed considerably while I was confined to a bed for essentially one month after the surgery with light rehab. Of course my metabolism slowed as a result and I lost muscle definition and gained a significant amount of weight. Fast forward to graduate school several years later where I was studying to get my Ph.D. in Engineering… so much studying in fact that I continued to put on weight. School was stressful. I tried to become more active by playing sports in the university recreational program, however, my efforts led to another ACL tear, this time in my “good” knee. I also had another cartilage / meniscus tear in my previous bad knee. I attributed all of this to being in poor shape. FRUSTRATED, I GAVE UP…

The good news is that I finished my Ph.D., found a good job out of school and met my wife in the process. I was overweight but had a promising future. My new job required significant travel though. Exercise and good nutrition were not much of a consideration anymore. Once we purchased our first home my free time was non-existent. And of course my knees and lower back were in constant pain.

I suppose I owe this transformation to my wife… she had always wanted to run a marathon and, as such, signed up and started to train. I was proud of her. We were out of town one morning in Arizona for a friend’s wedding and she went for a 7-mile run at high elevation while I stayed in bed and watched TV on a beautiful Saturday morning. I wanted to do something to improve my lifestyle but didn’t know what. I certainly was not going to run a marathon with my bad knees… AND THEN HERE COMES THE P90X INFOMERCIAL! I think we all remember the day we first saw the P90X infomercial. Too good to be true, right? Well I did a lot of research and concluded that this program was NO JOKE and requires actual hard work to bring success. Exactly what I needed.

Fast forward to today… Two rounds of P90X later and I am in the best shape of my life. Yeah, it's hard, but the results will follow. The BEFORE picture below was taken at the Grand Canyon on the day I decided to commit to P90X. I was good at hiding the weight. I have since lost 20 pounds, 16% body fat and 7" inches off my waist. I am much stronger and no longer have pain in my knees. P90X has strengthened the muscles surrounding my repaired ACL ligaments and provided much needed stability to the joints to function properly (Plyometrics anyone?). I have committed to, at the very least, a new round of P90X each January.

This is my story, and I thank Beachbody for the experience. Join me as I continue the journey!
BRING IT!!

Sick transformation, I can definately relate to your story.

I'm starting Phase III of round 1 tomorrow and am loving the progress thus far. I am hoping to post a couple of pics at the end of day 90. I then plan on doing some sort of Hybrid routine. I'm very interested to see what you come up with.

Rage -

Congrats on the new thread - I will continue to check in on a daily basis.

How do you like the Fish Oil - I thinking about adding to my supplements as my hip joints have been acting up on plyo and kenpo.

Damian - Thanks man. Great job with your commitment to the X! I will post below my tentative plan for the next 4 weeks. Keep up the good work and just let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to your 90-day pics.

Robb and Ryan - Appreciate the support, as always. You have both been an inspiration with insane results with P90X. I look forward to following your progress too. Regarding fish oil, excellent source of Omega-3s. I take the 1200mg pills. Supposed to take 3 times daily with meals. Not sure if fish oil will help with hip joint problems, although I used to take glucosamine / chondroitin for joint pain and it seemed to help my knees.

30-15 Upper Body Massacre, abs and interval run done this weekend. I will rest tomorrow and then start a program based on the 5 x 5 concept. I plan to lift HEAVY to build lean muscle mass so will only do one PUSH phase and one PULL phase per week. P90X, P90X+ and the One-on-One DVDs will be incorporated between the heavy lift days. I also built in two rest days to allow the muscles to recover.
The first 4 weeks will follow...
Tuesday - Modified 5 x 5 Push phase. Weighted abs will follow.
Wednesday - Cardio, yoga or golf (work league)
Thursday - Modified 5 x 5 Pull phase. Weighted abs will follow.
Friday - Rest
Saturday - One-on-One 30-15 Upper Body Massacre (20-lb vest) and weighted abs
Sunday - Cardio, stretch
Monday - Rest

Cardio will be selected from Interval X+, Plyometrics, Kenpo Cardio+, Cardio X, Kenpo X and interval runs. I am flexible on the program and will see how I progress the first few weeks. I did a test run last week and it went really well. Total workout time for the 5 x 5 days was about 1.5 hours. Perhaps later I will sub more of the free weights for chest exercises in classic P90X. I will post pictures here after 4 weeks to look for mass gain. I may decide after that to start creatine supplementation again if I think it is required for the next phase.

Yep, I've done those. And they are very effective. You can start by holding the dumbbell up against your body and doing crunches, or, more advance, hold the weight straight out and do your crunches.

Dennis

P.S. -- Last plyo today for Round Two. I really worked it -- half an hour later, my tshirt was still dripping wet. No plyo for three weeks -- a strange mixture of relief and...can it be sadness?

Thanks Dennis... swiss ball was a nice addition to my fitness capability and the weights definitely increased the intensity! Haha, miss Plyo already? You are addicted to the X, it must feel good! Congratulations.

Day 1 PUSH 5 x 5 and weighted abs done. What a great way to start Round 3, seriously. I exceeded my weight by 10-lbs relative to the test run last week for most exercises in the PUSH routine. I have dumbbells up to 80-lbs, and that was not enough for bench press sets 4 and 5. Next week I will use my 5- and 10-lb ankle weights on my wrist to increase the weight up to 95-lbs if needed. For decline and incline press I got up to 75-lbs by set 5. Shoulder press I was able to get 60-lbs 3.5 times set 5. New record for me. I also did weighted dips with 50-lbs the last two sets (using pullup tower handles). That one was TOUGH. The other exercises I did were skullcrusher, shoulder fly and chest fly (60-lbs set 5 for chest fly). Definitely needed the Recovery Formula. Man, what an improvement over last week. If I continue at this pace I should build some mass as long as the calories are sufficient. I’m excited to see my progress from week-to-week.

Tomorrow is cardio, most likely Interval X+.

Hope everyone is doing well with workouts and nutrition.

Hey Rage: great progress. I'm looking to mix things up a bit for round 2 as well. I did Ab Ripper X last night and noticed that it is not burning anymore. Yeah I get exhausted and I wish Fifer was never born, but it's time to bring in the Killer Abs.

Did you do just P90X in round 2? I've been testing a weighted backpack. How is that MIR vest. I just don't want to be limited to 20 lbs.

Your thread is now on my "notification" list.

Hey jvalla - Thanks man. Killer Abs should help confuse those ab muscles again. You can also do Ab Ripper X with ankle weights. I started at 5-lb weights and progressed in Round 2 to 10-lb weights. Man, what a difference a few pounds makes for the intensity. You can also switch up the order of the exercises, do less reps without stoppping the entire time, or slow down the reps to focus the intensity. In Round 2 I also incorporated Abs Core+ frequently from P90X+. Round 3 I am now also doing more traditional weighted ab exercises using swiss ball, etc.

Round 2 was completed early April and was a hybrid with P90X, P90X+ and several of the One-on-One workouts. Basically I developed a program that constantly switched routines to keep the muscles confused. I was sore the entire 90 days!! Dude, the weighted vest was a big part of my progress in Round 2. Besides providing added intensity to the pushups and pullups, the vest strengthens your core throughout the routine and helps keep that heart rate up to burn calories. Don't underestimate the impact of 20-lbs. It works you. MiR is a great vest and is available at 40-lbs and above... of course more expensive. I got mine on ebay direct from MiR for $50 delivered. I did weighted dips yesterday with the vest and my 30-lbs of ankle weights to give 50-lbs resistance. There are ways to increase the weight without spending a lot of money. Many vests also have a loop on the back where you can clip on weights.

Hope this helps and continue to BRING IT!!

Sore today after the 5 x 5!!
Interval X+ tonight. I usually do not use the weighted vest for Plyo because it is hard on the knees... but I may try it today.

Nice progress Dennis. Pullup numbers are excellent, especially the corn cobs. Those are still tough even after two rounds! Nice improvements as well in the other exercises. Round 2 you will see big gains. So what did you do differently prior to week 7? And thanks for stopping by Dennis...

If you are new to P90X, working on your latest round or just have questions, post a message here and introduce yourself. Let's do this together and achieve extreme fitness! If you have questions but are not interested in posting on the message boards, please send me an email. You can get my email by clicking my name and viewing my profile. Actually, I was a lurker on the message boards my first round of P90X, and that is okay, but second round I posted every day for accountability. It really motivated me to BRING IT extra hard because I knew others were watching my progress and wanted to help!
