Welcome all - you managed to get on the forums, this is the next step to greatness.

I will keep this short. Without encouragement, its tough to go alone and get to your goals. Lets be very open in this forum and encourage and motivate each other to get to our targets.

My BB Cred: I have done everything listed above in entirety or in a hybrid. And now its time for Body Beast. I started in Dec 24th of 2012 at 195 lbs, and by April 20th, I hit 170 and am now 165. I've been worse as my weight was around 230 before. My body fat went from around 19% to now 11.8%. The only thing I have left to lose the remaining fat and define my lower abs.

Some reccomendations:

1. Most important:

Eat Right, eat green, eat lean, stop eating processed foods. Stay away from McDonalds, Burger King, Tbell, Soda, excess sugar, salt, etc - these will not get you to your goals. Get a calorie and meal plan and get ready to change your life. We will change the way you eat for life.

Use a calorie tracker (yes I know I was against it) but it got me on straight. I use MyFitnessPal. We can discuss proper ratios and all that later but a good balance is 40% carbs, 40% protein, and 20% fat...along with this try to consume 1 gram of protein per your target weight. So if you want to be 100lbs, consume close to this 100g of protein, this becomes your carb amount as well, 100g of carbs, and then 50g of fat.

2. Shakeology:

It's a great meal replacement, and it becomes more delicious if you add fruits, peanut butter, milk, etc.. Comes with a great guide of what to mix in and they even now have Vegan flavors. I prefer chocolate.

3. Which workout is for you:

a. Tai Cheng: Focuses on posture and form. It's basically Tai Chi and it will help you if you're stiff into making you agile. Much like Yoga and Pilates but you also learn self defense - its very slow and focuses on form, form, form.
b. TurboFire: Builds on the other great Chalene workouts and it's for those of you who think insanity is too insane and P90 has too much equipment.
c. Insanity:: Now you start talking, this is you're most taxing beginner BB cardio workout out there. Just when you think you're done, the second month is a whole new ball game. No equipment needed, so just use your body. (60 days)
d. Asylum: Insanity squared. Just when you think insanity is tough, Shaun T released this. Sports Performance is the theme, you will be doing workouts to prepare you for GameDay and Overtime. (30 days only - thank god, imagine a max asylum)
e. P90X: Less cardio than Insanity series but focuses on using equipment to transform your body. It includes 90mins of yoga and more to sculpt your body. (90 days)
f. P90X2: You passed X, what's next. You guess it X2, take it to the next level in another 90 days.
g. Body Beast: You have used the above to get lean, lose fat, and get tone. Now you want more, well hereis body beast. Increase your calories to build muscle.

These are just the ones I have done, ofcourse there are more to help you if you have other goals so lets discuss. There are also hybrid plans out there or we can work on making up your own.

Few More Things

1. Pre Workout
Find the right meal 30 mins before you workout and use that for fuel. Don't forget that this begins the day before, so essentially pre-workout is anything you eat before. Supplements - I don't think you need any insane supplements here, just a simple protein shake or solid lean protein meal is enough.

2. Post Workout
Here you need to find a good recovery drink. You want to replenish glycogen with good carbs and protein. BB offers a recovery drinks, or you can find your own.

3. We are all here to grow

I'm no expert, I am here to grow as well with you. So I welcome anyone to post here, correct me, and engage in lively debates.

Let me know your goal when you join. Then check in everyday and post what you did to get to your goal or what you need help on.

GAME ON! Remember its not how much you do and how many hours you work out, its what you do to drive forward and the small steps you take to get you there. (Don't take the escalator or elevator, use the stairs).

Lastly, you might be thinking who is this guy, why should I come here, why should I follow him. Will he really help me, well they say that pictures are worth a thousand words, so:

"Eat Right, eat green, eat lean, stop eating processed foods." I so agree. Even without a workout, this is the answer.

Accountability for the day:
Cardio Abs (left over from yesterday) then Cardio Recovery. Wow. Cardio Abs are so much easier at the beginning of a workout. I did every move and kept up with the gang. Gonna have to re-think my order on Pure Cardio/Cardio Abs day.

Cardio Recovery: Recovery my a$$. Too many deep knee lunges to call it recovery. The only way it is recovery is because your heart is not pounding out of your chest.

@Rob - Thanks for stopping by

@Jason - yea cardio recovery is not really recovery but it is quite fun.

Accountability: I spent the day driving around looking at wedding venues. Think we found something. Ate right, went to dinner at a veg stir fry place and it was delicious. Tomorrow will be Asylum Gameday in morning and light body beast at night if its arrived.

Body Beast is going to be intense. I am going from my 1800 to 2000 calories plan which is comfortable to over 2900 calories. I can see why supplements are important...protein shakes, creatine, fuel energy all have calories packed in. So far I've added in a whole wheat muffin to breakfast for additional carbs. Have to get used to this new full feeling.

It's also modifying my 40/40/20 plan to a more carb focused plan so that I don't end up using existing muscle for fuel.

Also I will be doing a modified Bost Beast at my own pace since I can't offer it 90 days. As well I am a vegetarian and Sagi doesn't like much of Soy or Tofu, I will still be consuming this so lets see how it goes. I can see why Tony switched back to being a carnivore, it is just much easier to find good lean protein.

Way to go CoachIon!

Can't wait to hear how you handle the Beast and it's eating plan. My boyfriend has been watching the DVDs to see what equipment he needs and likes seeing how they modify some of hte moves if you don't have all the equipment. But some of those mods are even HARDER! :p

The food intake is intimidating, but thankfully the boyfriend is a meat loving country boy, so that'll help. He is also finally realizing that he doesn't *HAVE* to finish it in 90 days, he can stretch it out longer so he has a life too. That magic 7 DVD is going to be a big part of keeping him on track!

Started the Build phase yesterday and man was easting high calories a challenge. I had to use the protein powder and creatine to come close to 2900 calories. I am also looking for higher carb food now to get the carbs I need.

As for workout itself, the Chest/Tri's workout is first and wow does it have me aching. Muscle soreness in tris and chest is very evident from all the super sets, drop sets, giant sets. Add to it the challenege of using a stability ball for it and its intense. I also did Beast: Abs before this as I was waiting on hold with BB to see why my EZ Curl bar did not arrive.

Today is Legs, let's see how it goes.

I know you're veggie-man but do you find it easier to cook it all in advance and freeze it or do it daily? I don't think my boyfriend will have a hard time eating that many calories, I think him keeping it to HEALTHY calories is going to be the biggest struggle. He was already gloating at me how he can in fact eat those toasted bread chips and edamame dip.... he's gotta get his calories up. *facepalm* I figure that once he starts the work out and makes himself bonk at least once or twice, that'll figure itself out real quick....

@kytro360 - As promised this is the video to target your abs like nothing else that I put together from insanity and asylum. If you feel like you abs didn't get a pounding, just do this twice when you've finished your workout.

Hello Layne,

Two works of that magnitude is pretty intense. I've done a few doubles and it wreaks havoc on the body? How are you coping with it?

Hows the 2700 calories doing for you? I'd think with Les and Insanity you'd need a bit more.

RE: doubles
7/5/12 6:05 PM as a reply to CoachIonFreeZe.
Hey Coach FreeZe, it was pretty intense but my body is used to doing doubles. What I tried to do in the past would be to space the workouts a few hours apart, but I found that I would be more tired if I spaced the workouts apart. I found actually my results are better if I do my workouts back to back when I do doubles. I would do my insanity workout first and then I would give myself about a 10-15 minute recovery period to get my second wind and then proceed into either pump, turbo, or a bootcamp format workout. What helped was drinking results and recovery formula between workouts and then also having gatorade or powerade in addition to my water in the 2nd workout. That way I'm replenishing my body with potassium, trace minerals, amino acids, and other tings that I'm sweating off. I cannot testify how much results and recovery formula helps! I would have two of these a day, and two protein shakes also in addition to my shakeology in the morning.

Since starting insanity, I have been doing doubles 6 days a week (the scheduled insanity workout) in addition to the normal workout that I would normally do for that scheduled day (bootcamp, bodypump, turbo, etc.) My body has held up pretty well for the most part.

I would stretch about 10-15 minutes prior to exercise, and also stretch an additional 10-15 minutes after the cooldown on my own. Having that Max recovery stretch really helped also. On Sundays my rest day, I would do deep massage stretching using a 12 pound medicine ball to loosen up the muscles and excess scar tissue that may have been building up.

I ate cleaner than I normally would and to say that I am happy with the results. I started at 177 and now am down just under 158.

I guess everyones body is different. But with shakeology I actually found that I was eating less but having more energy. I was eating about 3/4 of what I would normally eat, but found myself getting full. I'm not sure if shakeology is supposed to curb your normal appetite like that but I found that my cravings were gone and if I got hungry and wanted a snack, I would eat something like a peanut butter sandwich on whole grain bread with bananas, organic honey, and flax seed granola.

Today is supposed to be a "recovery day" 4 more days of insanity left...core cardio and balance today and then ab ripper x. Legs are shot after 3 straight days of insanity and body pump doubles. Anybody try the bodypump 82 format yet? That lunge section is pretty killer...tomorrow max interval plyo and bootcamp! Cannot wait!

asylum
7/5/12 6:22 PM as a reply to LayneSanity.
Actually I plan to start asylum on July 16. I plan on giving my body a rest next week after pounding it for 2 months. Any suggestions/prep tips for asylum? I noticed in the video clip commercials Shaun T is using weights...I think that is "back to core" workout...What best helped you to get through asylum?

Also on a side note...I did read in an interview that Shaun T said he already has ASYLUM volumes 2-7 planned out in his head!! He did say that it would be up to Mr. Deikkler if there would be more asylum volumes...I did notice that it did say VOL 1 on the ASYLUM dvd cover.
