How to Do INSANITY’s Cardio Abs the Right Way – and Avoid Back Pain

What's up Team Beachbody! During my latest video chat, I was asked for some helpful tips on how to avoid back pain while doing the "C-Sit Position" during the Cardio Abs workout in INSANITY. I get this question a lot, so if you wanna learn how to do Cardio Abs the right way and avoid pain, press "play" below to get my tips and watch how I do it.

Be sure to check the schedule of upcoming video chats to see when I'll be chatting next, and come prepared with your questions!

So, what do you guys think? Does anybody else have any other tricks for doing the C-Sit Position or other abs moves? Post your comments below to let us know. Also, if you're feeling really inspired, please post pics of yourself doing Cardio Abs so we can see how you do it.

Great tips Shaun - I like to make sure that only the back of my heels are on the ground. I also like to sit back as far as possible so that I am almost at the point where my feet want to start to float up. If I were to do it by a mirror, I would be at a MINIMUM of a 45 degree lean back. Obviously not everyone can handle that out of the box but I never get back pain (well the bad kind - can't say I don't get a little burn in my back after a while). Just shared this with my Challenge Group, keep the gems coming! ;-)

Well that explains it. I need to be a lot farther back then what I see in the video. I am going to redo those moves now.

What about those of us with long torsos? I'm top heavy, balance-wise. So much so that if I lean back until I feel it in my abs, I roll all the way onto my back.

I do Cardio abs in the morning for the first time, so nervous !!!

This is awesome, Thank You for clearing that up. I've been finding that I have to go back further than it looks like the people in the video are to engage the abs without feeling the pain in my back. Now I know I'm not crazy, at least in this case, lol.

Make sure you really tuck your hips up and round your back. To counterbalance your weight, extend your legs farther in front of you and go back as far as you can without falling over. It will take engaging your entire core to stabilize your body. Rounding your back is key in keeping your balance in this position though. Good luck!

Which is (of course) not correct at all? Not sure who to tell about this mistake but I immediately clicked the link as I knew Shaun-T did not do crunches. emoticon

So it got my attention!

My back muscles are trained to do a bulk of the work I do and tend to take over for my weak belly- it is a hard transition to make- but I want some abs so I thank you for the tip Shaun T!
