The P90X Experience
motivation for p90x 1 round of p90x
7/10/12 8:17 PM
Welcome to the P90X Experience! P90X takes fitness to the next level and will challenge you over the next 90 days. This is a demanding program but Tony Horton makes if fun. I have done P90X, P90X+ and P90X2 as well as Power 90 (Tony's original workout program) and numerous other Beachbody workouts. I'm here to encourage you, answer questions and cheer you on to completion. When you complete the program, you will be proud to wear the free T-Shirt as a sign of your dedication and strength of commitment!

Feel free to join in the conversation and create buddies along the way, who are asking "Are you working out today?"

Hi Robert - I also started the X 6 days ago and have Kenpo on board for this afternoon. So far I love it but it is challenging, I am still doing AR200 from P90 instead of Ab Ripper X, I find that a little too much at this point. Nice to meet you andKPP!

Hi Robert and Ann - glad you were able to find this message board! I have invited several others to join in the conversation so I hope this becomes an active group supporting one another in this challenge. From my personal experience, P90X was the program I saw the most change in my shape and muscle definition.

Look forward to following your progress!

Steve,
Thanks for the link. I am in.

I am still doing the Master Series but I will be starting P90X soon. Looking forward to the challenge.

Ann, good to see you posting here as well. I am anxious to get started.

I hope this thread takes off like the one Steve started on Power 90.

Thanks Steve!

Yay Paul, you made it! :-) Let us know when you try out the X:-)

Yes Robert we can all help each other, I did Kenpo X this afternoon and loved it, you sure do get a good sweat going, wow! I had just mentioned on the P90 board that I've tried AB Ripper X twice now and find it to be a little too much so I'm still doing P90 AR200 which works just fine.

Okay supper time, see you all tomorrow! :-)

I'm in my last week of P90X... should I do the program again? Do I stop for any amount of time, or just jump right back to the beginning?

Welcome Alex and tnsmiss!

Congrats to you tnsmiss for completing the first round of P90X! Did you do the classic or lean track?

I would suggest doing a recovery week before restarting or you could look at P90X+ (which was put together as a maintenance workout program for those completing P90X). I know people who have done multiple rounds of P90X. I personally like to take on a new challenge to help keep me motivated. P90X2 is also a totally different program and a real challenge. I see you play tennis, have you thought about Insanity, which is the best cardio conditioning program I've done (you will be running circles around everyone on the court!)

Thanks Steve... I am finishing up the Classic version of P90X. Yes, I thought about doing Insanity, but does it also build muscle? I like the fact that P90X has made me stronger. So I've also considered doing the next of P90X...would that be P90X+ or P90X2?

Today was my day 1 just finish Chest & Back + AbRipperX for the first time. I've spent the last 6 months in the gym doing weights, spin-class, running, etc. Had some results for the first couple of months, and then I hit the wall. Got de-motivated, and suddenly found myself skipping the gym to the point I just wasn't going. Knew I needed more, and a better planned out system.
Started the meal plan a week ago, and just dove right in with a giant grocery run. So beat after tonight I could barely get my can of P90X recovery formula open. Even my dog was glad to help as apparently he instinctually knows that when a man is doing push-ups his job is to stand on his back to ensure he gets a proper workout. lol

So day 1 is done 89 more to go!

Alex! There you are! :-)

Welcome Wagguy80 and tnsmiss!

Does anyone know where to read info on the heart rate zones, Tony keeps talking about "are you in the zone" in Plyo and Kenpo...is he talking aerobic or threshold? I'm thinking aerobic.

Welcome Wagguy 80! Sounds like you are ready for this new challenge. I like to warn people that you will be sore the first week of any program, no matter you fitness level because you are incorporating new moves engaging different muscles. With that in mind, lighten up your first week and then begin to challenge yourself to add a rep or go up in weight each time you do the workout.

tnsmiss - 90X+ is a good workout and they do have both a spreadsheet schedule (TBB Workout Tools) and a calendar that comes with the program. It is only $60, and the workouts are all around 45 minutes. It has some new cardio and a total body workout as opposed to P90X which workouts out specific muscle groups. P90X2 is more of a complete program and is a challenge with more emphasis on balance and core, it has 3 Phases similar to the phased approach of P90X. Insanity is a killer cardio workout but only has body weight strength training (push-ups, push-up jacks, moving push-ups, squats). You get into great cardio shape and you see the difference in sports (but I'm like you in that I prefer more strength training). The Asylum has both strength training and intense cardio.

Hope everyone has a great workout today,

Steve

Good Morning all,

I do not have any of the 90X's. Quite frankly they scare me. lol I have done Insanity, started that at age 43. Yes, late start but better then never right. I finished that program and felt great! Then life happened and I just didn't pick it up again. About 5-6 months ago (now 45) I hated how I felt and knew complaining wasn't helping. I picked up Chalean Extreme and finished that program. Now on the "fit for life" part. During my last 2 weeks of that program I wanted more. So I picked up Rev Abs. I am currently in the second phase near the third. I do Rev Abs in the am and Chalene in the pm. I like what I see and how I feel. I have friends who have used the P90X and liked it, but say it is quite the challenge and time dedication is a must (longer sessions). I guess I'm looking for support in my thought process. lol Once I'm done with Rev Abs...what will I do? I can't sit still and like others..need something new to mix it up. Thoughts?

Good morning everyone!

Today is Xstretch, yay! :-) My prep week went well with the program but did take one rest day on the half way mark to rejuvenate, I feel like I can see a difference in definition already! Tomorrow is officially Day 1, I've taken notes on each workout on where I need to improve, different weights etc. I really liked Kenpo but need to study some of the more complex moves co-ordination wise. I hope to get through the entire Yoga DVD this coming week as well as Plyo. I also think I need to order a different colour band as I find the red one too stretchy for my set up. I am using it with my pull up bar and I'm finding I have to be half way across the room to get the right tension, lol. I might even try actual pull ups with a chair or the stirrup gizmo that I bought. Anyway, thats whats on my agenda, how about everyone else?

Have a wonderful day all and KPP!

Okay everyone! I've decided to bite the bullet and do P90x! I am scared and anxious, but also excited, and I honestly think I would miss you Paul, Ann, and Alex if I don't join you in your journey!
Thanks Steve, for starting this thread.
I am going to use the time between ordering and receiving the program to bring it hard to the Masters series. I am sore from having done Sculpt 3/4 yesterday, that is terrible! But good too, as I've gotten back into the swing of things. I think knowing I'll be starting P90x will give me a goal and focus to rejuvenate my Power 90 workouts until I can start P90x. I would guess I will be looking at starting around July 22 or so.
I will definitely be on here needing support and encouragement!

Daley67 – You should not be afraid of the X if you have done Insanity and Rev Abs! P90X is a great workout and will be a challenge, but you have already proven that you are tough in completing Insanity and I think Rev Abs is a great program, especially Phase 3! You are already brining it if you are doing CE and Rev Abs on the same day, that is a tall order! I agree that it is nice to have a new challenge to keep you motivated and with P90X you will now have all the bragging rights – lol

It also helps to be connected with a buddy group not only for some accountability but also for encouragement and support.

I just did an hour of Yoga and now I’m doing shoulders.

Have a great day everyone!

Sarah,
Welcome! Glad you are here with us. I am still a couple weeks away from starting P90X myself but I am living through everyone's experience right now and taking mental notes. I am working hard with the Master Series and hoping to finish strong and then go to the X.

Ann,
Keep up the good work! I am impressed with your dedication. Are you doing the lean or the classic version? How would you rate the workouts as compared to the Master Series in intensity?

Robert,
Thanks for the welcome.

Everyone else joinging, I am looking forward to reading your posts and getting to know your story as well.

1 round of p90x day 25 - p90x
7/12/12 8:22 PM as a reply to 2HelpU.
Hey everybody!

I'm on Week 4 (recovery week) on P90X. I've lost a little over 6 lbs and I keep pressing play! Man, these workouts are tough. I thought chin up was bad but then the plyo is a workout and then the yoga X! It's good stuff... I have to do my workouts at around 5-530a which is a first. I never woke up before 7am until this program. Anyways, some days are hard to "bring it" and I try but my motivation is good... waning at times. Thanks Steve for inviting me to this thread.

Sarah - Right on, we would miss you too! I think you will like the variety in P90x and the fact that its a little more up to date helps, its just an all over different refreshing feel. Glad to see you've got another goal lined up:-)

Robert - You rated Yoga X as a recovery day? WOW! lol....just teasing:-) I love the outdoors too, but we are having a really bad mosquito season right now unfortuntely.

Paul - Thank you, I am doing the classic version, in my opinion, the P90x workouts out weigh the MS by far in intensity (for me) but still do-able. In fact I am surprised how much I can do, this is what all that P90 work did for me, it made me stronger and better able to handle P90x. Not to mention you can make it as intense as you like:-)

Long day, really tired...Chest & Back tomorrow....

Have a good night all.

Well woke up this morning, and everything hurt especially my arms. Thats what I get for going to complete muscle failure on the last set. Abs so sore I had to roll out of bed. Hit Plyometrics kind of on the early side this morning. Then off to work for 8+ hours. Felt aweful, and hurting then about 6 or so hours afterwards I started to feel much better.

But I'm amped for tomorrow!
