Please help! Working out on carpet and shoes not working!
Showing 11 results.
I just finished week 1 and having issues with my shoes (Asics Keano 17). I workout on carpet and think my shoes have too much tread to do the twisting/footwork motions. Anyone else have this problem? And if so, what shoes work well on carpet??

Please help! Need to keep pressing play without killing my knees/back!

I ran in to the same problem as you. What I did was purchase an interlocking mat from Walmart, made by Golds Gym. It wasn't expensive at all, maybe $20. I was actually wearing out my carpet in certain areas, and occasionally would get my foot stuck while turning my foot, which could have ended quite horribly with a twisted ankle. Not only did I protect my carpet, I protected my ankles!

I do about half my workouts inside now with the mat, which is 5 feet by 5 feet. I move the mat outside in the garage for my other workouts. Didn't realize how much better my knees would feel with the mat, or I would have bought it already!

Sent a buddy request, in case you had any more questions.

Just keep pushing play!

I definitely have had that problem. I went out and bought some interlocking puzzle mats from Wal Mart - they have them on Amazon too and they aren't that expensive. Not only did they make it easier to pivot, they also took some of the impact out of the jumping. The mats absorb some of the shock. And the nice thing about the puzzle mats is that because they come in pieces that you interlock together, you can put them around your furniture and make them fit your space - made it really nice to do Turbo in a small apartment that way!

I had the same problem too. I intend to get the mats to protect my carpet (b/c I am wearing it out!)but I bought new shoes and they are great on the carpet! They're the new Balance 997.

I alternate depending on the workout. sometimes is high tread asics, other times is barefoot...other times just socks, or my Vibram 5 fingers are a good "in between". But I find that fighting the tread of the carpet is sometimes better than sore arches of the lesser shoes when doing the jumping dvds...thats why i have to alternate.

I had the same problem with a pair of new shoes, but I found that switching to an older pair that i recently ran a half-marathon in was the fix. the worn-out soles let me do the twists on the carpet without wearing it out, and the shoes still provide great support. (Asics Gel Kushin)

Thanks for the posts about the interlocking mats! that is such a great idea!

I have used the interlocking mats taped together securely with duct tape and then a rug mat underneath so it won't slide around. That works okay on top of my wall to wall carpet although sometimes it can get too squishy!

Right now I use a remnant piece of rug on top of my carpet and it stays in place better. I also try to pivot as close to my toes as possible to minimize friction with Turbo Fire. Hope this helps. I will send you buddy request in case you have other questions. I'd be happy to help where I can.

I had this same problem but didn't really want to purchase a mat - I work out in the family room so I would have to take the mat down and put it back every day. Not a big deal, but my time is limited as is and I didn't want to fool with mat assembly. I found these shoes on zappos.com and they work really well for me! They offer support but the bottom is smooth. Actually on the ball of the foot there is slick piece of plastic that really helps with pivoting during p90x workouts.

I have found that working out barefoot helps me out a lot.

I workout barefoot as well (on carpet) and have for over 2 years! Our feet are made to support us!

I read on the boards here somewhere that putting some clear packing tape on the bottom of your shoes helps....tried it and have never looked back! So much easier! I don't do it on hiit days, just the longer ones like Fire 30/45/45ez/55ez but it's also totally hilarious when I get to a hiit within one of those and specifically the burpees...really have to watch myself because my tape covered toes will slide out from under me, lol!
