July/August P90X Starters (First timers)
p90x starters p90x lean first time p90x
7/22/12 5:01 AM
I'd like to try to start a thread for anyone who is trying P90x for the first time starting in late July or early August 2012. When I did Power 90 a could of years back, the motivation and accountability that came with posting every day with my group was invaluable. Please chime in if you're just starting out and let us know about your history, goals, etc.

I did power 90 a couple of years ago with great success until I had a shoulder injury (unrelated) that knocked me off the horse. At that time, I had lost about 45 lbs, but have gained about 15 of it back over the last two years.

In late June of this year, I decided to get serious about my health again, and started back on Power 90, but hit some of the same roadblocks as before. Power 90 does not have enough variety for me, and while I was progressing well, I was bored. That is why I am now doing P90X.

I started on July 1 with Power 90 then converted to P90X LEAN on July 21st. So far I have lost 11 lbs. which leaves about 25 left to go.

I hope to hear from you soon so we can share in motivation and success!

Take Care!
Patrick

Patrick,

I'm a first timer also. My wife and I started July 1st. Today is week 4 and we'll be doing the yoga x. I've lost 11 lbs. Before TBB I was close to 300lbs and worked my tail off to get down to 220lbs. That took just over a year. I was going to the gym religiously and using supplements from a local chain store.

I don't know why I stopped at 220 but shortly after the weight started to find it's way back. 40lbs later I found P90X and Insanity.

Even though I'm still in the early stage of the game I'm confident that I'll do better and continue with the programs. This will be great for accountability!

Glad to see you! Welcome to the board!

At my highest I was about 265, and at my lowest I was around 215. I'm currently at 223 after the 11 that I've lost over the last 3 weeks.

I've already done my workout for today - Cardio X at 5:30 this morning.

I have a two year old, so I am trying to get the workout in before she gets up in the morning. I also want to get into a routine of waking up early to workout before I go back to work in September (I'm a teacher).

I started P90X Lean on July 19. So I'm on day 3! First timer, and I LOVE IT!!!! It is different than I thought it would be but I'm totally digging it. I'd like to lose about 45lbs and get toned!

I'm pretty active, but where I lose it is in my diet. I'm really trying to stick with it this time, because I don't want all this HARD WORK to go to waste! emoticon

I am having trouble fitting in all the protein required in this stage, but I'm learning as I go along too. Any tips would be appreciated!

ytstacie, welcome!

I just did day two, so we're really doing this together. I haven't decided whether to switch my diet yet. Haven't had enough time to look at the P90x nutrition plan. I've been using the South Beach Diet with really good results...No problems with energy and losing weight well.

I do use a whey protein shake from a local retailer after my workouts, especially after using weights. Something like that may help you get more protein in at an appropriate time.

Did yoga today and HATED it. Ugh. Also wondering why there is no plyometrics in this version? That's one exercise I really want to do and would benefit from in the sports I play. I wonder if it's ok to swap out yoga for plyometrics?

Ok, after just googling it, seems like maybe I should be doing the regular P90X... oh well. I'll see how this week goes and maybe swap back.

I've got some Shakeology coming my way - thought I'd try it out, but I see that protein powders are a great way to boost protein.

I've done South Beach before too! And had great results and learned a lot about nutrition. I'm applying a lot of it to this whole experience!

I'm a first timer too! Starting Tuesday. I was doing the classic version but 3 weeks in I hurt a surgery site I have. I took a few weeks off to heal and now I'm starting over with the lean program!

I'm a 1st time P90X and will be starting on 1 Aug. I'm currently on my 2nd round of Insanity and thought P90X would be the next best step. I can't wait to get started on it. I didn't really change up my diet for Insanity but I plan to follow the guide to a T to maximize my results with P90X.

Welcome MissJsmne and Travis Cooley! Glad you joined us!

Day 3 is done! Got my Shoulders and Arms done along with the Ab Ripper X. Did pretty good on the shoulders and arms, and might even up my weights a little to burn at about 10 reps. The Ab Ripper X is much more intense than the Ab Ripper 200 in the Power 90 series. Not only are there more reps, but generally the exercises that they chose are more intense. I tried to push to at least 20 reps on all of them, but some are going to take some more work.

Stacie,

I chose the lean version because I have about 30 lbs I want to lose and figured the extra cardio would help with that. I may also be switching to the classic program after week on...going to play it by ear. By looking at the two programs, if you wanted to do Plyometrics, I would put it in place of the Cardio X day. I have my first Yoga tomorrow, and am not particularly looking forward to it. However, I remember running into a video on here once where Tony emphatically said that yoga is one of the most important parts of the system. The good news is you only need to do it one day a week! We can all do that, right? (I hope my optimism doesn't change after tomorrow!

Hope you all hit it hard today, and welcome again to our newcomers!

-Patrick

p90x motivation starters upper body strength core work
7/24/12 6:26 AM as a reply to pianoman78.
Hey everyone! I'm new to the message boards. I found this thread and thought it would be great to get motivation from others who are just getting started on P90X.

I'm a 47 year old wife and mother of 3. My youngest is 3 and my oldest is 30. I decided recently to really focus on my health, and part of that is doing P90X and changing the way I eat. My current weight is 230 lbs, with no exercise background. My goal is to be around for my 3 year old as she grows up.

I am doing P90X Classic, and I just started week 5 yesterday. I am really struggling with Yoga X and the recovery week routines totally threw me off my momentum. I didn't like all the core work (mainly because I don't have the upper body strength) at all, so I didn't push myself during that week. Because I didn't push through the routines of Week 4, I feel like I took a week vacation from exercising. Now that I'm in week 5, I'm really having a hard time staying motivated.

Anyway, I would love to join you guys on your journey. Hopefully I can get the motivation I need to keep going.

prisskitajoe, Welcome to the group!

I'm glad you joined us. I just did my first yoga X today. There were some I had a lot of trouble with, and one or two I couldn't do at all. However, I could tell that it was a really good workout. I think I was sweating harder during yoga than any cardio that I've done.

Being around for your 3 year old is great motivation. That is what got me started on Power 90 the first time. My only one will be 3 this September. Yesterday, she was even play exercising with me :-)

Did you take pics and measurements when you started? You may want to take them again since you've been into it for a month now. Seeing that progress may also help with motivation.

Take care!

Patrick

I haven't hear much from some of you. Did you "Bring It" today?

Accountability - Day 4

Did Yoga X for the first time at around 11:00 this morning. This has been the most challenging workout so far for me. I know I sweated at least as hard, if not harder than cardio. I don't like it, but I can definitely see where it can be beneficial.

Let me know how you guys are doing!

Oops! Forgot to post, but I've still been "bringing it!!" LOL!

I agree with the yoga Patrick - I can see why it's so important and will keep it up. If it helps my flexibility/strength, it's got to be good!

I did legs/back yesterday and freakin loved EVERY MINUTE of it! (ex. for the chin ups, haha). Doing AbRipper after it though was brutal. My legs were sore to start with and some of those exercises really use your legs! But like Tony says "Ab Ripper X - I HATE it... and I LOVE it!!"

Kenpo today! And rest tomorrow, woohoo. I stepped on the scale this morning 5 days in and lost 1.5lbs! I have really been watching my food intake though. And this is the first time I've used protein powder. Damn it's good!

Welcome to those who have joined - can't wait to hear about your P90X journey!

Great to hear it missjsmane!

I've got legs and back w/ ab ripper scheduled for today, but I ordered a pull up bar and haven't received it yet, so it it doesn't arrive by this afternoon, I may to Kenpo X today then legs and back tomorrow. I figure it won't matter much since I will still have muscle rest after the strength workout.

Well, today is my first REST day and my goodness I need it!!! Did Kenpo yesterday and that was a fun workout. I love the P90X workouts, I think the variety will really keep me going for the duration.

How did you find Kenpo Patrick?

I did take photos (ugh, horrible and embarassing!!!) and all measurements/weight, etc. I'm going to re-measure tomorrow to see my week 1 results.

I'm finding it difficult to get as much protein as I'm supposed to, but it is interesting to find the right balance. At least I know my fat intake is WAY down (20%)!

Busy day today.

Played a round of golf this morning then followed it up with Legs and Back and Ab Ripper. My pull up bars had arrived by the time I got home from the golf outing. I also think my core workouts are already helping my golf game. Every one of my drives was straight at 250-260 yards!

Chest and Back was a tough workout for me. I had to use a chair for all of the pull ups since I have so much weight to pull. I can really feel the workout now, and I think I can hear my abs whining. Stacie, I definitely agree with you on the variety. That part makes this much easier than Power 90 even though the workouts are tougher.

Looking forward to Kenpo X tomorrow. Hope all of you have had a good day!
