Need Help Immediately with Stamina!! :-)
Hi All! I need help please!

I'm nearing the end of my 2nd week of Insanity. I'm currently about 240lbs and modifying my little heart out but I finish every workout every time. The mind and body are 100% willing to do more each set, but the energy level starts to wane shortly after the warmup! I make it through the first interval set ok, but after that it's a struggle for every ounce of energy despite what my body is still willing to do. It's very frustrating. My calf muscles also start to get very achy quickly during the warmup while I'm jogging, doing butt kicks or high knees.

I started taking the BB E&E drink before my workout but I don't think it's enough. Is there something I should eat or a supplement I should take prior to my workout that would help me power through and not fizzle out after the first set? I want my next 2 weeks and Month 2 to be much more productive so I can lose this weight and inches. I know my size is what's making me tired but I figured there must be something out there that can help.

I don't expect to keep up with the folks on the DVD, I totally get that, but I know I could do more reps if I just had some extra umph!!

Any guidance you can offer is appreciated.

Thank you,
Dianne

Truly, stamina is something that oyu build over time. I (personally) am not a believer in these "quick energy" deals, as most of them have WAY too much stimulant for me. It takes about 3-5 weeks for an inactive body to adjust to becoming active. My suggestion? Keep gutting it out, and you will eventually keep up. You have the right minds wet, though, so keep pushing!

I agree those energy drinks have too much stimulants in them for mt body... I think you are on the right track and definitely have the mindset to accomplish your goals. Maybe have a small snack prior to working out, what time of day are you working out??? We all have a certain time of day when we have more energy to work out and burn more calories... I am definitely a morning person because I have more energy then and have no interruptions from my kids.Just keep modifying and pushing and over the next few weeks I think you will feel more energy and endurance. Insanity is a tough program I have done several rounds so I know the energy you need to get through it. Over time you will have to do less modifications and you will be able to keep up!!!!!!! Good Luck Colleen

I agree with the other posts. I started at 220 pounds I am only 5.6. The first couple weeks the warm up was a workout for me!! You do what you can and at your own pace. In couple of weeks, I think you will notice a difference. As you start losing weight and getting fit you'll have more energy.

There are other factors. Are you getting a good night sleep (6-8 hours). Lack of sleep has been studied and shows it hinders weight loss. What is your dietary intake? Are you eating whole grains, vegetables, fruits, fish, chicken, lean meat? Also if you eliminate the simple carbs, not all but specifically sugar, fruit juice, white flower product. Pretty much anything that has been refined. The problem with white flower is, it comes from the same wheat berry as whole wheat flower, except the bran and germ are removed, (and that's where all the nutrients and fiber is)

Sorry for getting of on a tangent. Two supplements that might help with your energy, is VIT B-12 it is a nutrient that helps keep nerve and blood cells healthy. It also helps make DNA. Vitamin B12 also helps prevent a type of anemia that makes people tired and weak.

The other supplement is cordycep, this is a "cattipliar mushroom" It helps in oxygen utilization and energy production. This is what the Tibetan's used in 1930 when they climbed Mt. Everest.

But most of all, Just keep going, you are doing great. You will start to get better and better.

Hope this helped somewhat

Keep going,

Rob

Hey Isis!!

Some good thoughts listed above....

SLEEP, SLEEP, SLEEP!!!!!

It is the most important part of any fitness program and the one that is often times neglected. When we sleep our bodies repair damages muscles ans revitalize everything. Lack of sleep causes the repair process to be "half ass". Eventually hindering the repair process is going to cause more harm than good. You would rather start off the day at 100% than 50%.... Sleep!

Next up, nutrition...yes, it makes a big difference in your workouts. I calculate accurate calorie intakes for everyone on my team and we discuss better food options for higher energy levels. What you have in a pre-workout meal can make a difference in your performance.

Hydration is another big factor, how much water you drink and when you drink makes a differnce in your workouts. Also, are you making sure to do some type of recovery drink after your workout to replace glycogen stores and repair micro-tears in your muscles?

I'll send you a msg and maybe we can talk somemore!! emoticon

This is a tough program...keep pushing!!! Cardiovascular will build in time emoticon

KEEP DIGGING!!

Hey, there, great job doing Insanity and keeping a positive attiude. I like that you have realistic expectations and are not discouraged. The main thing is to stay safe and modify if you need. I have bad knees so I do not jump as high on the plyo video. Keep up the great work and just makes sure you are getting enough sleep. It could also be your body adjusting to the workout program.

Hi Isis

I know that most would frown upon this, but I have been in your predicament. Working a ten hour day at a physically demanding job and then coming home and forcing down an Insanity workout. That is brutal for even physically fit people. So what I did to make it through some of my workouts was drink one cup of black coffee about 30 minutes before my workout. I do not recommend to make it habitual but every once and awhile you need and extra kick to get you through. A great deal of the supplements have caffeine in them already, but steer clear of energy drinks, they are loaded with sugar. They work but will not help if you are trying to lose weight. Also try swapping out your music. You know the routines and you do not need to hear Shawn T anymore. Crank up your Ipod on the stereo. This helps vary it up and the music gives you a burst of energy.

Oh goodness do I know how you feel. I'm 5 foot 4 and weigh 191 lbs. I have to modify a lot of the exercises because my knees hurt or I literally can't get my body with all it's fat to move that way. I'm starting month 2 day 1 today and it has been challenging. When I don't want to do it here's what I do. I yell at myself and yes I cry. I remember all the things I couldn't do because I've been out of breath, had no energy or was just too big to do. Then I get mad and darn it I do the workout. The whole time I'm muttering.."see I can do it..look at me now..just you wait till you see me again..let's see you do Insanity or are you too scared.." It helps..try it and if you need someone to talk to feel free to get a hold of me.

Hi Diane!

Way to go! Just the fact that you are off the couch and pushing through is half the battle! When I started Insanity it was about 8 months after I had my son and I certainly did NOT have the stamina. The first week I almost vomited 3 times and I would do a little of each exercise before I would have to take a breather. There were many mornings when I though, I really do not have the energy for this but I wanted to feel better about myself so I got up and did it anyway. I ultimately built up my stamina by the end of the 4th week, lost 25lbs and felt like I could conquer anything! Everyone has great suggestions about sleep and eating because of that factors in but keep it up and the results will pay off.

You go girl!
