Need advice - 4+ weeks with no weight loss!
Showing 12 results.
Started Les Mills Pump over 4 weeks ago (as of Sunday 09/09/2012 it will be 5 full weeks) and I haven't lost a single pound.

I load up on the weights as much as possible for each track to the point where I really have to push myself to finish them. The good news is, I have lost a couple of inches around my chest, waist and thighs....but zero weight loss? When I did P90X the pounds poured off of me, but I am seeing no weight loss with this program.

Do I need to up my cardio more? I follow the pattern set in the program, but I am at a loss why the weight is not coming off.

My diet is one of a LOT of chicken (really dislike seafood) and I keep my carb intake very low. I allow myself 1 meal a week to eat whatever I want, but only 1 meal.

Thoughts? Suggestions? I am currently at 220 lbs and I want to get back down to 200 or below.

Thanks!

A lot of people doing this program that don't have much weight to lose, don't lose much weight, if any, in the first phase.

Also, since you have done p90x, the first workouts in the program might be a little easy for you. I would suggest moving up to pump and shred at least, if not to pump revolution or pump extreme. The hour workouts might be better suited for you since you have the p90x background. What cardio are you doing on the walk days?

And also, gratz on your inches loss. You are making progress. Just be patient and it will come. In the last two phases, you should see some weight loss.

Since P90X, I had my right knee scoped (for the 2nd time in 18 months) so I got out of shape before start this workout. Doctor said no more running emoticon

I am just now getting into the Pump & Shred and I am seeing a difference in how I feel after the workout is over. I will keep going and pushing myself in the program, but I would have guessed I would have lost at least 3-5 pounds by now.

On the cardio days (even on other days when I felt the workout wasn't quite enough...or if I was bored) I do a very fast paced walk. I do an average of a 10 minute mile. Since I cannot run, it is either this or I go cycle. I wanted to try walking 1st because it is a non-stop exercise, where when I am on the bike I tend to stop peddling going down hills. I would love to up my cardio, but I am not sure if my knee can handle it since I am icing it down 3-4 times a week as it is after workouts and walking/cycling. I hate being limited due to my knee, but I really don't want to injure it any further (total knee replacement is next if I hurt it again).

Thanks for the reply and any more suggestions are very welcome! emoticon

Hey there, just curious, how long ago since you had your knee done? I had mine done a year ago August. I had a very long recovery time....part of that was because I just didn't stay off it enough. Life intervened with my husband sustaining a tragic injury at work, and I couldn't workout for 3 months. After that the swelling went WAY down, then it was more a matter of it being really weak and sore. What worked for me was to strengthen that knee a lot--I did that with Chalean Extreme. 6 weeks into Chalean, with knee sleeves on I could start to do TurboFire with modifications. Now, I never would have guessed I had knee problems.

I, too, was told no more running. I thought my exercising life would be over...thank goodness I found that wasn't the case for me!

i guess if you are doing everything then you must be forgetting some important points like, if one is trying to lose their weight he/she should include fiber in his diet, should completely avoid junk and fatty food, should take small portioned food, listen to their body, eat whole grain and unprocessed food.

I had my knee done about 7 months ago...

I had no issues doing the squats until about 2-3 weeks ago. I couldn't even go 1/2 way down w/o extreme pain, then after that started I also got a "click" in my knee as I was walking.

Went to the doctor and of course he said he didn't want to do a 3rd surgery on my knee right now (and I don't want him too either), so no more squats, ice it down every day and take some anti-inflammatory meds. Since I can push myself through the rest of the workout, I just skip over squats/lunges (sucks, but I want to keep working out as much as I can) and instead I hop on an elliptical or stationary bike for 30-45 minutes. Not as good of a burn as pushing weights, but I am at least getting some decent cardio in...

Thanks for the replies!! It helps knowing others are doing this as well. emoticon

I am seeing results now, but diet rally wasn't my issue. Other than the occasional cookie (and sorry here, but you HAVE to have a little something from time to time) I was/am eating boneless skinless chicken breast 4-6 times a week with brown rice.

After I posted that, I started doing more cardio than what the program said to do and that is when I noticed my weight dropping. Now, I just alter the program to ensure I get in 30-45 minutes of cardio each day including the "rest" days. Down 10 pounds so far and I want to lose at least another 10 before I even consider slowing down.

Thanks for the posts!! It does help to keep me motivated. emoticon

I think this is common for most of the routines. During month 1/phase 1 the body is readjusting to a new programs and generally the workouts are less intense.

This is especially true for month 1 of Les Mills. It's a really light month - particularly the first two weeks. This was great for me since I started it during a very busy time of year for work, but coming off of Asylum I felt like I was coasting. My girlfriend is going to do Pump after she completes Asylum next week and she's planning to just right to week 5 (she has done some of the intro workouts already while she was finishing TurboFire).

How's your body composition? Clothes looser? Tighter? Better posture? I encourage people not to get too hung up on weight as a form of measurement. It's only one way to measure your progress. Others include more qualitative means like how do you feel? What do you think when you compare your before and after pictures (I was amazed when I compared day 1 w/ day 30 pictures). Then there are other quantitative measurements like measuring your waist, hips, arms, legs, etc., comparing your resting heart rate, comparing your #s (weight, reps).

I've actually put on two or three pounds during Pump, but I look a lot better, feel a lot better and my muscles are way bigger.

One way to pump up (pun intended) the cardio and calorie burn is to replace your "walk" days with something more involved. Some things I've done include doing Insanity month 1 routines, Speed and Agility from Asylum, and Cardio Plus from P90X+. I think that's the best way to adjust the Pump schedule a bit without throwing everything else off.

Good luck to you! Pump's a great program and I've been quite happy with it. Cannot wait to get my shirt next month!

- Mike

What kind of knee sleeves do you use? I am doing TurboFire and I also started doing a hybrid of Les Mills Pump. I noticed my knees started hurting me quite a bit after starting pump, so stopped and just continued on with TurboFire. I was thinking about getting some knee sleeves and starting up Pump again to see if they help.

Hi there, just saw this question. I have one Don Joy compression sleeve and one Mueller. They are size medium. I think it might be time to get the size small, because they are slipping a lot.

I'm having a bit of knee pain with Les Mills Pump. Which I am sad about. Nothing serious--yet. I think the rep affect might be too much for my knees. My custom orthotics are on order as well. But until things calm down more I might just skip the squat and lunge tracks until things settle down. And of course, will keep on with TurboFire, modifying if I have to. Very sad about this!
