Pump v chalean
9/10/12 6:13 PM
Hi all. I'm trying to decide which program to do next- pump or chalean extreme. Can anyone give me some direction? I know that pump is higher reps less weight and chalean is the opposite. I'm looking to tone up. ;-). I kno either will probably do that but just tryna find out the differences that users have experienced. Thx

I have only done Chalene's workouts and I love them because of her energy and music. I can't speak for Pump. I can send you some of the promotional videos that the coaches have access to if you want...about 2-3 minutes on each program. I hope others will chime in here...I'm curious about the answer from others that have done both. Thinking about one or the other myselfemoticon

Congrats on doing Insanity!! How did you like it?

Do you know what body type you are? There are some people that are able to build muscle really easily and some that have a hard time. If you build muscle easily, I'd say you would be good with either one. If you don't I would go with ChaLEAN.

I have been doing ChaLEAN off and on (I mixed in 20 weeks of Turbo and then Insanity in between), and I have to say it's my all time favorite. The workouts are less than an hour, and my results with it have been better than they were with Insanity or P90X. ChaLEAN cues well and the program is broken down into 3 phrases which kept me from getting bored. She also focuses on areas that are usually troublesome for women which I think is why I love it so much. It is also really tough. I haven't had as much experience with PUMP, but I have heard a LOT of clients say PUMP is not as intense as the gym classes it came from or the ChaLEAN workouts.

Also, if you decide to get ChaLEAN I'd recommend getting the deluxe package even if you have to save a while. I bought the add-on pack and I really wish I had just had them all at once. Also, ChaLEAN is a great hybrid workout too. I mix it with Insanity and TurboFire for cardio now because the ChaLEAN cardio are a little easier than Insanity. In contrast though PUMP has "Combat" coming out this fall which is all cardio and would mix really well with PUMP.

So my favorite is ChaLEAN because its short, tough, and effective. PUMP is also going to get you results (as long as you can build some kind of muscle), but it may take a little longer from my experience.

Thank you for the feedback!!!

I enjoyed Insanity and was one week shy of finishing it up and then my son started teething and it all fell apart. :-( I've had a hard time getting back into it. I did like the results...I lost inches, but I still feel flabby. I feel like i lost all my muscle tone while I was pregnant. So I thought to get back into work out mode, I would try a new program to add in with Insanity or do on its own. Im just so unmotivated. I wanted to see what others thought before I ordered my next program. =)

Re: SoreyFItness...I think I can put on muscle fairly easily. Although I could be wrong. My body has totally changed post baby. I still feel that there is a layer of fat on me =(.

I know my diet needs to change as well. BOOO lol

I just started LMP, and I love it! I love that they alternate trainers, I love that it moves fast, I love everything about it! And I love the burn! I have the deluxe package and the combat is awesome! I've also tried both the ab workouts, and they are the best I have ever done in any program. I am loving the burn and soreness I am getting with this workout program. I have on many attempts to try CLX, and just cannot get into it. I get bored quickly with this workout. But do your research and find what will work best for you. =)

My wife loves CE and so do many of our friends.Myself and a few friends really love LMP.Personally, if I were you I would look at the videos and see which one "spoke" to me.I do not think you can go wrong with either and the results will be similar in nature.
I love the trainers in LMP and the fact that they rotate keeps it fresh. They are both motivating so it really is a personal preference.
Good Luck.

I've done both Chalean Extreme and LMP. I completed LMP without missing a single workout. Like others have said, they rotate instructors, so that keeps things fresh. And the music is pretty decent with some songs that you'll recognize.

With Chalean Extreme, I've started that program, maybe 3 times and have yet to complete it. The most recent time I got close, but still not to the finish...I don't know what it is about this program, that I can't seem to get through it. And I love Chalene! I use Turbo Fire faithfully.

So, my rec is like the others, watch some clips - go to YouTube...decide for yourself. But I wold do LMP over Chalean Extreme. That might just be me though... :o)

So happy to know I am not the only one who couldn't complete CLX. I agree completely with you Lori, and I too love Chalene. I've been mixing in TJ & TF with LMP. I've never been able to stay on schedule with any BB programs, LMP is the only one I feel I can cause I can add other things to it! =)

I am also interested in LMP, I have done P90X (never gotten through it, I just get way to bored, closest I got was 13 wks!) But I personally am not a huge fan of ChaLEAN Ext. I have done the first phase, but honestly, it is not my favorite type of video. I am not a person that responds well to the overly bubbly leader. I like someone like Shaun T who threatens you with death! So I agree with everyone else that you really have to look at the program and the instructors especially and see which one you like better.

A friend did CE and got amazing results, but she watched it on mute! I couldn't take her for more than a couple weeks!

Hi,

I have been looking at LMP too - my only issue is that you have to "walk" for cardio (not gonna happen) or buy the deluxe cardio dvds which require a step (I don't have one, and step class doesn't agree with me)
Most of the reviewers have said the dvds are more geared to beginners, and the only ones they really used were the advanced ones at the ends...so I'm not sure how I feel about that either. I really really want to have this program, but I think I will wait until the next phase of this comes out.

I did CE and I like it - the middle push phase is my least favorite part, and I usually end up skipping some of those workouts, but the lean phase is awesome and worth the previous 2 months. And I got great results from this program.

This was an excellent question. I have completed CE, and really love it. I want to try Pump, but I don't want the extra equipment around my house. I have plenty already! emoticon
It's good to read the different opinions on this. I think that I am going to try Combat with CE, if I make it through Insanity!!!

Hi! I read your thread and wanted to reach out---I am an inshape gal and have done several BB programs and Pump class at the gym...and got the LMP program because I love weights but not huge muscle. I can say that the first couple weeks may be for beginners (but still a good workout), but as soon as the second disk starts (pump and shred), it kicks the booty. I actually havent gone PAST that dvd because i love it (and im not in a race to finish the program...i just enjoy doing what i enjoy). As soon as Im able to do something without dying anymore, i increase my weights. The three day schedule may sound strange, but I actually really enjoy it. Im able to revert back to P90x for a little extra arm or ab work...or hit my turbofire (my soul mate ;). And when others are looking at getting more strength-training in their life (especially my runner clients who cant stand the thought of taking a break from that), the 3 days are PERFECT.

I bought the deluxe package because I had heard so much about Combat...but i havent even done it yet....THATS how much i enjoy the rest. I am also a lover of pilates...and the ab workouts feel very much like a hard pilates class. The step class isnt like the typical step classes...its more intense, with mostly holding weights while you have one leg on the step and one off and are either lunging or squatting...which is near death for me. But its a quick death, and I love it.

I havent done CE...but one of my Turbofire disks has an extra workout from CE on it, and I didnt really get into it. That one felt too basic to me (and she was using bands in that particular one...and I prefer weights). cant say much else about that.

Thats my soap box emoticon Hope everyone finds the program theyre looking for! Happy Weekend.

I'm looking at starting LMP too! Can anyone tell me approximately how long the workouts are? Also, are there any videos that show what the workout videos are like? I wanted to get a feel for how they flow, the music they play (or if they play music), etc emoticon

Thanks Cimbira - I am getting LMP! I love Chalean, but I just finished 90 days and I want to try some thing new emoticon

In answer to the other post (Leslie) - the workouts are 30-50min and you can search you tube for some 4min videos that show you the music/fell of the workouts. They are what sold me!

The first workout is Pump Challenge and it's about 20 mins. The longest workouts are Pump Extreme & Pump Revolution...both lasting 55 mins each. The ab workout is about 15 mins...Flow (yoga) is about 25 mins, and Core is about 12 mins.

I personally love Les Mills Pump. It is the only program I have been able to finish (I have 1.5 weeks left of LMP) and I've lost about 20 lbs with it and built a lot of lean muscle.

I've tried P90x 3 times and was unsuccessful. I do a few of the Insanity workouts, but never started the program. I plan to do that next.

When the new year comes around, I was thinking of doing Chalene Extreme...which is why I came to this thread, lol.

I have done Chalean extreme 10 times and pump once.Pump is fun, but it moves fast and I actually injured myself using (2) 5 lb plates ..I have lifted 35 lb dumb bells for chalean extreme and never hurt myself.I do like the cardio dvds for Pump though.I only hope that Chalean will come out with new weight dvds..10 times now and I am finally getting bored ( I already did P90x and don't feel like doing P90x2 since I don't care for it)
