P90X to Insanity transition

Looking for advice on what to do in between. I will be starting Insanity Oct 2nd (its my birthday present to myself) but I will finish P90X on Sept 19th. What is the best way to spend the 2 weeks in between? Should i do another 2 weeks P90X (week 10&11) or just blend some cardio (kenpo, core, plyo) to get me there? Should there be any real down (off) days?

Hi Dave,

You have 3 options:

1) Take the days off
2) Do a recovery week

I would recommend #2, as will keep you going until your birthday.

Let me know what you decided! and Bring it!

Dave

I am in the same situation. I just finished a p90x/Insanity hybrid and am now taking a 'month off' before I start up p90x2.

Nothing wrong with letting your body recover a little emoticon Go do some other activities that you enjoy such as running, hiking, cycling etc. You also can throw in some workout discs here and there as you like, but I do not feel it is necessary to continue on for 6 days a week with p90x prior to moving on to Insanity.

For instance, this week I have taken 2 days off, done 2 p90x workouts, an Insanity workout, went for a 5 mile run and just hiked 4 miles this afternoon. I'd still stay active and keep eating right, but not totally necessary to crank out 6 workouts a week p90x style.

Hope that makes sense. Keep Bringing It!

Jason

p.s. I will send you a buddy invite as well.

Is Cabo San Lucas an option? LOL!

The coaches offer good advice.
Congrats and keep pushing play!

I would suggest doing a recovery week and then doing more of the cardio focused routines from P90X. Insanity is definitely a step up in intensity, but if you can prepare yourself a bit with Cardio X, Kenpo, Plyo, Core Syn. I think that would be a good route to go to prepare yourself.

okay so the upate is, i have officially completed P90X. |Tuesday I felt guilty as hell cause i took it completely off(even though this was my rest day anyway i usually went to the gym for some cardio equipment work). This time i did nothing and hated it. Yesterday i did Cardio X and ran for 40 minutes. Felt better for working out and the routines were better. Today i decided Plyo and ab ripper...just things to keep me going til i start Insanity on Oct 2nd.

Still undecided about shoes, Cross trainers or volleyball shoes for insanity???. This weekend i am going to the smart shoe store in town and get their opinion. I dont really trust the knowledge that the big box stores and the kids that work there have.

So i have one more week to go before i start insanity and i am blending some of the P90X routines with some treadmill work. I have had great workouts for Core, Plyo's, Kenpo and Cardio X, gettting on the treadmill for about 30-45 minutes after i am done. Seems the recovery week does wonders, i have been able to push harder and dig deeper.

I did start to miss the other workouts and threw in a back and bicep workout and will most likely have a chest and back and shoulder and arms mixed in this week.

The extra energy after recovery is amazing, miss the set routine though and can't wait til Oct 2nd when i start insanity

I know this thread is still being read so i will update the journey. I ahve completed Phase 1 of INSANITY. Mostly good days but afew with lower than normal motivation. What has workied is i became part of a group on the message boards, a challenge group and write a blog on occasion. What that has done is created accountability. Before with P90X, it was just me and my dedication. Now with the groups, it is about being part of something and encouraging each other. I strongly recommend joing a message board, a challenge group, write a blog and make buddies. It will work wonders in helping you complete what ever program you choose to do

Message board i am on is

Hey All,

for anyone checking out this thread i will be deleting it soon. I found a home on another thread called "Starting INSANITY IN NOVEMBER? We'll keep you MOTIVATED!" Coach Tom Abner.

we get a lot of traffic over there and have new and old BB people joining all the time. Check it out if you are looking for a home.

I have almost finished INSANITY for the first round. 9 days left to go. The support of a goodd thread on the message board has been key. Hope you all make it over to the other thread. We are a good bunch of people
