Starting classic p90x next Monday, Sept 24th - feel free to join in the thread if you're interested.

I started p90x last year and all was going great, then around week 5 I developed a lower back injury that kept getting worse - to add to that I had hamstring issues that just wouldn't go away - had to stop for fear of doing real damage. After some recovery (and a little added delay) it's time get going again.

Bring It!

Hey Joe!

I'm starting P90X on the same day as you. I'm a first timer, though.

I'm ready for the pain to begin. (The good kind, hopefully. Not the injury kind.)

Thanks for the info, guess my goal is to git ripped emoticon I've been in the gym and a runner for the past 8 years or so but have never really gotten that 'beach body' look, always hover around 15-18% bf.. I've heard so many positive things about p90x and so may success stories figured if I just do what I'm told good things will come. For me this is an experiment to see what happens if I follow the program as prescribed for 90 days.

The first time I started, last year, I could start to see a change in just 5 weeks, sucks that my injury's wouldn't let me continue.

HI Joe, Chris, and Christina,

I started p90x yesterday and wanted to know if I could join your group? This is my second time trying to complete p90x. I made it 1/3 of the way through about a year ago but due to heavy course work while in my graduate program P90x had to take a back seat. I"m ready to give it another try.

Hi everyone,

I'll be starting the P90x Insanity hybrid tomorrow. I've been on and off with P90x and Insanity workouts for the past year. Just made it halfway through a round of Insanity recently, but the lower back pains were getting to me. Looking to finish my second round this time around. Good luck guys!

Welcome, the more the merrier. I also did around 1/3 a year ago but had to quit due to injury. Looking forward to making it all the way this time - injury free.

Lower back pains are killer, that's what put a halt to my p90x last year - that and a hamstring injury that lingered for like 6 months. Good luck back to you too!

Hi ! I started yesterday too, and I would love to join you guys. This is my second time trying to complete the P90x. Last year I was able to do the first three weeks of the program but then injured my left arm. I think I pulled a muscle and was in pain on and off for a few months. It was scary. Since then, my elbow/forearm has healed very well, and I think I'm ready to restart again. I will be more careful this time and emphasize quality over quantity. I am really looking forward to complete the 90 days this time around.

By the way, are you guys following the nutrition plan? I am trying to follow the guidelines for the fat shredding phase but instead of the portion approach, I'm counting calories I will try this for the first thirty days and then readjust my calories.

I did my first workout last night and I don't have a pull up bar yet, I am using the bands for that, any body else doing this?

Wannabf1t,

The nutrition guide can be confusing for some, me included. I started P90X three years ago, and did not complete.

A few things I have learned since then. Nutrition is going to be 90% of where you will see the results, so pay attention to it.

I am 30 days in, and I did calorie count, plus I did all the macros to make sure I was getting the right percentage. Some people like using fitness pal to track their calories, but I put everything in a spreadsheet so I could see exactly what I was eating everyday. I kept it simple, so I was eating the same thing everyday. The less variables, the more chance of success. Plus it was easier to tweak, I could change a serving size to get get the macros to work out exactly.

You may have to adjust your calories before the 30 days. Your body will tell you if you are getting enough, things to look out for are hunger obviously, but also energy levels during the workouts, not so obvious. So keep that in mind, you may not be hungry throughout the day, but then not have energy for the workouts, so you will have to adjust.

Resistance bands. I used them in phase 1, but went to dumbbells and pull up bar for phase 2 and 3. The bands work great on some exercises, but not so great on others, plus it subjective depending on where you step on the band to get resistance. One time I did 15 reps, the next week I did 10, the resistance was different because the loop size was different. At least with a pullup bar and dumbbells, 20 lbs is 20 lbs, no other variable. I think I will get more pump out of the bicep, and triceps using the dumbbells.

Thank you for your advise, Airhead.

I am aware that nutrition is very important. This Summer I started to exercise and had I been more cautious about my food intake, I would have seen better results. But I learned my lesson.

I'm using my fitness pal to track my calories and macros. There will be a lot of trial and error this week. I'm trying to get the hang of measuring, logging everything I eat, and hitting my macros every day. I'm not use to eating so many little meals during the day and driking so much water. Looking at my numbers in my tracking app, I'm having a hard time not going over with the fats and carbs (I've pretty much cut out refined carbs from my diet, and oh boy, I am really feeling it today).

I only use the resistant bands as a substitute for the pull up bar. I'm using dumbbells for the rest of the exercises. I will look into buying a pull up bar in the future.

Hi all,

I just started P90X Classic on Monday also. I am a first timer here, would be honored to join your group if you would have me.

First 2 days were rough, though I employed every modification I could to try to get through the workouts, plyometrics last night was a killer, especially at 318 lbs.

I will keep pressing play, looking forward to tonight's workout, am also very glad that they vary so much, not sure I could do the same workout day after day.

Welcome MikeinTampa,

Plyometrics definitely is a killer workout. The first time I tried P90x, I hated plyo with a passion. So last night I was not really looking forward to it. But I pressed play and was pleasntly surprise because this time around I really enjoyed the work out. I also modified some things because I was afraid of injuring myself (my shins were in pain while doing some of the jumps).

The group has been a little slow, I hope it picks up soon. I am very motivated but it is nice to have buddies for support.

Hi Joe and all.

I just started my second round of P90X. First time, I completed the Classic version, and this time I am going to do the Lean version. After completing my first round, I had some medical issues to deal with (me - appendectomy, family - various) and was not able to do ANY more with P90X for almost 8 months. Now, I have been working out for a few weeks in preparation, and am a couple days into the program. Nutrition this time around will be better for me. Although I did pretty well in that regard the first time around, this time I am focused on doing better to get even better results. Love the fact that my start date projects to my finishing the program on Christmas Eve!!! What a great gift that will be.

Then, on to Insanity after a weeks rest!

Looking forward to hearing from all of you on your journeys, in addition to sharing mine. One thing I distinctly remember about the first round is that staying accountable through a thread like this DEFINITELY helps keep you on track both in the good and bad times we are all to go through over the next few months.

Keep pushing play everyone! Have great workouts today!

Chris L.
