A few items for you to review

EQUIPMENT

This varies on the program – but for those of you going the p90X route:

Dumbbells : Can begin with the standard dumbbells from Wal-Mart all the way to the Bowflex Select-Tech 552 dumbbells. Powerblocks are also an option. I personally use the Weider Core 100 pound select-a-weight set.

Resistance Bands: An affordable alternative to Dumbbells. These allow for easier storage. Better for on the go. Don’t go cheap on these. Buy quality bands to avoid breakage.

Chin-Up Bar : You can find these at Wal-Mart, Amazon, etc.

Push Up Bars: Totally optional. Some of you may experience some wrist pain from the push ups. If you do, the bars will eliminate that. These can be found at Wal-Mart or Amazon. The Power Stands are also available through Beachbody.

Yoga Mat: All the retailers have these. Just need something for a little cushion.

Yoga Blocks: If you are not the most flexible, these will assist you in your stretches. On the other side of things – if you are very flexible, the blocks will help enhance some of your stretches.

In addition for p90x2:

Medicine Balls: Two 4 pound medicine balls should suffice. You have the option of using other balls, such as basketballs, but once you use the medicine ball you may want to stick with it.

Stability Ball: 55 or 65cm depending on your size. 5'0 to 5'7 55 and 5'8 to 6'3” the 65. Other sizes are available for people out of those ranges. These are available at practically any store out there.

Foam Roller: Assists with relief of muscle and joint pain. Many varieties available out there. Have seen these sold on the Beachbody site or anywhere online that sells yoga or exercise equipment.

NUTRITION

This is not to be ignored and is an essential part of your success. Read through your nutrition guides that were provided with your products. Feel free to share tips and recipes on this forum to help others. For many, this can be a very challenging part of the program. If you have any questions on calories, meals, etc, please feel free to reach out to me.

Additional Nutritional Supplements

Shakeology : ‘The Healthiest Meal of the Day’. One glass a day of this delivers ultra-premium nutrition and contains numerous super foods. Replace one meal a day with Shakeology to increase energy, reduce cravings, lose weight, and improve digestion. It’s only 150 calories and tastes great. Flavors include Chocolate, Strawberry and Greenberry. There are many recipes out there as well to change things up. Interested in trying this? Message me and we can talk about sending you a free sample.

Whey Protein: You may find that you may need to add this supplement in order to get the protein you need in some of the phases in the P90X nutrition. Whey protein use is helpful before and after exercise to help refuel recovering muscles. This can be purchased through Beachbody or at numerous retailers.

Recovery drink : Tony and Shaun T talk about this constantly. It really is an important part of your post workout nutrition. It provides the carbs and protein your body needs for recovery. It will help to eliminate soreness and muscle fatigue. Make sure the carb:protein ratio is 4:1 like the P90X Results and Recovery Formula.

GOALS

Use the SMART Acronym

S = Specific. Not ‘I want to lose some weight’. Instead, how about ‘ I want to lose 15 pounds’.
M= Measureable. Make sure the goal you set is something you can easily measure and accomplish.
A=Attainable. Make sure the goal you are setting is realistic. Don’t go too easy – just make sure it is something within your reach in a 90 day time frame.
R=Realistic. Keep it real. Make sure it is attainable. Make sure it is challenging.
T=Time Limited. We’ve already made that one easy. 90 DAYS!!

BEFORE YOU START

Take a before photo. The p90x guide explains this in full detail. Make sure you get front shots, side shots, back shots and muscle flexing shots. You want to make sure you can visually see your progress! You will also redo these shots at 30, 60 and 90 days.
Take measurements as outlined in your guide. This will provide you with additional information on your progress.
Take the fit test associated with your program and write it down. This is essential in judging your fitness level and tracking improvement.

ONCE YOU HAVE STARTED

Track your progress. Use the workout sheets to track reps/weights used/need to increase or decrease weights, etc.

Below is a link to the workout sheets for all of the programs.

Workout Worksheets

Tracking Your Nutrition

Keeping a journal of when and what you eat will help you track all of your calories, protein, carbs, fats, etc. MyFitnessPal, Livestrong, etc. all will provide assistance for you. All of the apps sync to their particular websites so that you have everything well documented. Calorie count is critical for your goals and is emphasized in all of the Beachbody nutrition books. Log your meals and see if you are where you need to be! These programs can also be very helpful when eating out in order to find out if the food you are ordering falls into the guidelines of the fitness program.

Well – that about sums it up. Lots of information here. Feel free to contact me with any questions that you have. I will be starting a round of p90x2 on 10/3.

Who is with me? Let’s do this! Dig Deeper!!!! LETS GO!!!!!!!

Well dang, after those two pep talk posts I feel like the downer now. Tried to get chest and back started, but it wasn't happening. Struggled in just the warm ups and quit by the first set of pull ups. The cold won this one but I will prevail!! Will try again tomorrow.

For those that can bring it - get in one more rep for me!!

Still on vacation - but have this new 90 day rotation spinning in my head. I am ready to BRING IT!

Went out exploring today and visited an incredible black sand beach that was one of the most incredible places I have ever seen. The road down is 25% grade. We hiked it - 900 feet down. Then walked across the valley and then up the next ridge which was 1200 feet up. Plenty of leg burn. Shaun T would have been proud. Then back again to get back out. Spent some time enjoying the ocean and also hiking back a bit in the valley. I'd say we did 5+ miles today - but plenty of elevation with that as well.

IF you are looking to start a new program shortly - we'd love to have you join us right here. I promise plenty of motivation! I also try to blog daily and answer any questions that may pop up.

12 days until liftoff. YEAH!

And I did this morning! I will admit that the body wasn't at 100% but the mind was. Only got through 3/4 of chest and back before I was spent. I'll get to ARX later today. Did try the berry accelerade, not bad, but I still like the old P90X formula better. I'll stick with it though. One thing I need to watch out for was dummy me forgot to take the extra carbs into consideration - spiked my blood sugar. Oh yea, can't remember if I mentioned, I'm a diuretic - err, I mean a diabetic. emoticon So I'll have to watch that as well.

I did my best, forgot the rest, but I still brought it!

Norm - yes...you will need to be careful with that recovery drink. How did you do it before with the r&r p90x formula?
As far as taste goes - many people prefer the p90x formula. It is just a matter of the difference in $$. They both have the 4:1 carb to protein ratio. emoticon

More hiking tomorrow. Should be a full day out exploring.

T minus 11 days until p90x2!

I take insulin to control my sugars, I just forgot to take extra quick acting insulin to compensate.

Almost down to the single digits til the X2, eh? Those "circle pull ups" look very cool and I've actually tried them.

Bring it!!

I'm not familiar with them, but I am sure I will be shortly emoticon

Hiked 15+ miles today. Legs are trashed. It was good stuff - and there is a story to go along with it...Tami will post it. It was priceless.

Yeah - p90x2 is getting real close - and I am hoping to have a bunch of you along with me. This is going to be fun and we're all going to go through our workouts together. Really looking forward to it.

Hawaii is an incredible place. We are on the big island and it is amazing all the different areas here. Just love it.

Also looking to getting back home Wednesday and getting back to the normal routine. Nutrition has been pretty messed up this past week so I am ready to get back in the swing.

I hope that everyone had a great weekend. Please - keep posting and asking questions. We're all one happy family here with one common goal!!

I'm sure there is a name for them. Saw them on the P90X2 promo video on youtube. Shown at the 0:32 second point in the vid. [Edited by CSBB5]

Got plyo in yesterday - brought it the way I should have in the past but didn't. Feelin it today but low on the "Frankie walk". Only about a 1.5. emoticon

Keep up the good work boys and girls!

Jason and Tami: glad to see that you guys are all geared up for P90X2 it looks like a great program, I'm hoping to start it in the new year.

I had a bad week last week, was down and out with the flu for most of it, so I missed to many workouts and my nutrition was not as good as I would have liked. So I have started last week over again and plan to just extend my program by a week, hopefully it will all work out.

I leave for Vegas for a conference for a week this coming friday, but have been out and purchased resistance bands and a door anchor so I have NO excuses not to do ALL of my workouts! The eating might be difficult but I will do my best to make healthy choices.

Keep up the great work everyone!

Ashley

Norm - no biggie. The moderators will edit out external links if they see them on the thread - so that is what happened there.

I apologize that I have not been able to be on here more the last 10 days. This vacation thing keeps getting in the way. emoticon Sadly, we head on a plane back to Arizona today. It WILL be good to get back home on a regular schedule again. Nutrition and workouts are difficult when you are away from home. I'd say overall that we stayed quite active and that we ate rather well. We only went out to eat once. All other days we prepared our own meals.

7 days away from the start of p90x2 for us. Really looking forward to it!

Sitting in a hotel room. Just finished Insanity plyo cardio circuit in the room. Just Dripping. YEAH! Legs felt a bit wobbly. We've put many miles on these last 10 days hiking.

Hope you are all doing well. Keep on Bringing it!

Ah, understood.

Glad you enjoyed the vay-cay, but it'll also be good to get back home. Well - sort of.

One other thing coach, I've decided to tack one additional week after all. Along with the cold, I've had some unexpected things come up that resulted in me missing yoga and legs & back as well this week. (yes, that includes ARX emoticon ) I feel like I've missed out and I want to make it up. So Friday morning I bring it even more!
