Insanity & Cross Training
Insanity & Cross Training

Hello!
I am into week 3 of Insanity and it is kicking my butt - great stuff.

Just seeing if anyone has any commentary on how Insanity as worked as a cross-train tool - eg if it has enhanced your performance in your primary sport. I'm a swimmer with a penchant for open water swimming. Fall is a bit of the off season so I'm trying Insanity as something new and different to do & to take a break from the water. I'm mostly curious as to how all this land training and new strength will enhance my swimming! With how hard I'm working - I can't imagine I'll feel some benefit.

Thanks!
Bonnie

Being a softball player, I have noticed an increase in my swing. My power has increased and the ball goes over the fence much more often. My speed around the bases is pretty amazing, and I don't feel winded afterward.

In the gym (tested this out last week) my back and biceps are the only things that have lagged behind. All of my other areas have increased in strength. I was kind of amazed by this, since I haven't hit them gym in over 30 days now... and Insanity uses zero weights.

Keep up the good work, I'm sure it will do wonders for swimming!

Marc

Congrats on starting Insanity and being done with month 1 almost!!! I must say that yes it has helped so much with my performance although I am not a sporty person or wasn't before this! I was never a runner. I now run a half marathon in about 88 minutes so yes my speed has increased greatly! I have also done P90X, P90X2, Insanity Asylum and Insanity. I love these programs! In the past I have never been a person who was into physical activity now I am doing the mud events and everything! It's insane but I love it!!!! Keep up the good work!!!

If you're enjoying Insanity, I would recommend Asylum Volume 1 after you complete Insanity. It's based on sports performance, and there is one routine in there called Back to Core, which as a swimmer you would probably find very useful.

Ok then, Insane Asylum! It sounds frightening - thanks for the recommendation. I'll shelf that thought while I get ready here for month 2 of "regular" insanity....

After a 4.5 weeks of this Insanity, I report that it works!!! I did an unofficial inter-swimclub tri, and i was blown away by how I felt. My 45 minute bay swim felt just fine and pretty strong, and have not been in the water hardly at all this past month. I ran 7 miles easily, and have not been running in over a year. I was cruising along thinking - woweee - thank you shaun T!

on another note, my biggest worry right now with insanity is taking care of my knees. They have gotten a bit tender this past week, which i do not like at all. I am trying to be really careful with form, and that is helping.

Now reporting back that I did finish Insanity! I find my overall fitness to be much improved with improved strength and cardio conditioning.

I love that I can run 6 miles no problem (with no run training), and a few weeks ago did a bikram class that felt like a breeze. I feel I am in reasonably good shape to do anything, and this is a great feeling! Probably time to get back into the pool, but I plan on interspersing Insanity workouts along the way. Thank you Shaun T!! None of that was easy, but the end result is just fun and fantastic. <3
